Celtic Treble winner writes off Rangers challenge despite 49ers takeover and insists questions remain unanswered
Former Celtic star Bobby Petta insists his old club should have no fears over a renewed challenge from rivals Rangers next season despite their takeover.
The Dutchman - who spent five years with the Hoops and won a domestic Treble under Martin O'Neill in 2001 - said it 'doesn't matter' what happens at Ibrox because Brendan Rodgers will lead Celtic to five in a row.
Rangers were taken over by NFL giants San Francisco 49ers' investment wing with the promise of an initial £20million cash injection to help improve the Light Blues squad.
But Petta, speaking to the Sunday Post, isn't concerned and said: 'For me, it doesn't matter what happens at Rangers. Sure, keep an eye on it and be vigilant, but they shouldn't be able to get too close to Celtic in the next year.
'I think Celtic will win the league and that will be five-in-a-row. It's getting higher and higher all the time.
'It's up to Rangers to be stronger and more consistent to make a proper challenge over 38 games.
'Let's see if they are capable of doing it under the new owners and the new manager.
"There are still lots of questions unanswered at Rangers.
'If I was at Celtic right now I'd be thinking to myself: 'Bring it on and let's see what you've got'. I would not be scared in any manner of Rangers.'

'You need to be behind the scenes to know where everybody is at. Tom Heaton hasn't played a lot of football,' Foster said of Amorim's options. 'He's played some pre-season friendlies, Onana didn't play any because he got injured and then Bayindir has obviously been fit all the way through. 'I think that's the overriding decision as to why he started the game, but by all accounts Onana is fit now. 'What this does now is it is a massive problem for the next game, it's a massive headache for the next game and it asks all these sorts of questions. There's going to be so much surrounding it coming into that next game. 'Do you start Bayindir, whose confidence will be low after this first game? People will be going, 'Onana isn't much better and there's a lot of pressure on him'… Tom Heaton, I would trust him to give me a six and a half or seven and a half out of ten.' Setting aside United's goalkeeping issues, Foster felt Amorim's men were largely impressive against Arsenal, with new signing Matheus Cunha producing an 'absolutely brilliant' performance. 'I thought they were fantastic in the game and didn't deserve to lose, they definitely didn't deserve to lose the game,' he added. Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers avoids commenting on Jamie Vardy rumours
The Scottish Premiership champions face a deadline of 11 pm on Tuesday to make up to two amendments to their European squad, just hours before they host Kairat Almaty in the first leg on Wednesday. Despite his previous desire for new attacking options, Rodgers indicated he is prepared to proceed with his current roster. "That's what I am feeling at this moment in time," Rodgers stated. "The players that we have will be the players that I trust that can do the job. If we can get some players in before then, that would be amazing but the focus has been very much on what is here at this moment."

Premier League ace to snub 'dream' Rangers transfer in favour of £8million deal
Rangers have reportedly missed out on signing Manchester City youngster Callum Doyle, with the defender reportedly set to make an £8million move to an EFL Championship side Rangers look set to be snubbed by a young Manchester City star who once described the idea of playing in the Old Firm derby as a "dream". The Gers have reportedly been involved in a three-way tussle for 21-year-old centre-back Callum Doyle alongside EFL Championship sides Wrexham and Sheffield United. The England under-21 international came up through City's youth system but has managed just two first-team outings for the club. However, Doyle has excelled during loan spells, helping Sunderland secure promotion from League One in 2022 and guiding Coventry to the Championship play-off final during the following campaign. He subsequently moved to Leicester, where he once again played a role in achieving automatic promotion, this time to the Premier League, before spending last season with Norwich. Doyle confirmed earlier this summer that he was prepared to leave City permanently. According to The Athletic, Rangers showed interest but now look set to be beaten by Wrexham, who are close to completing a deal worth up to £8million. If the report is accurate, it would be the second time the Gers have lost out to the Hollywood-owned club during the current transfer window. Leicester's Conor Coady was expected to arrive at Ibrox earlier this summer, but he opted to move to Wrexham instead after they forked out £2m for his services. Doyle's decision to opt for the Welsh side could come as a shock, given his previous admission about his boyhood ambition of facing Celtic. Speaking last year, as City geared up to take on Brendan Rodgers' team in a pre-season clash, he said: "[I'm] probably [most looking forward to] Celtic. I've always dreamed since I was a little kid to play against Celtic. Since I was watching the derbies between Celtic and Rangers, I feel like it'll be a good game, a good test and a good battle." Doyle played in the second half of the match in the US, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Given his affection for the Old Firm derby, Rangers would have seemed an ideal fit. However, it's been suggested that location is crucial for the young player, who resides in Manchester. Wrexham have already smashed their transfer record three times this summer after clinching promotion to the Championship in April. The club has achieved three back-to-back promotions under the stewardship of actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Nathan Broadhead currently holds the title of Wrexham's priciest player after they splashed out a fee which could escalate up to £10m for the Ipswich winger last week. The signing of Doyle would take Wrexham's total expenditure in the current transfer window to an estimated £30m. Meanwhile, Rangers boss Russell Martin has dismissed wild rumours that Nico Raskin has asked to leave the club. Martin confessed last week that the Belgian midfielder had been unsettled by summer speculation over his future. However, that led to unsupported claims online that the 24-year-old had lodged a formal transfer request. The Ibrox boss has now moved to ease supporters' worries after clarifying that Ruskin's attention is firmly on facing Club Brugge in the Champions League Martin said: "No, I've not heard anything (about him asking to leave). Not at all. He's been brilliant. I'm pretty sure Kevin (Thelwell, sporting director) and Patrick (Stewart, chief executive) would have told me if we'd heard that sooner."
