Roblox suing Schlep? YouTuber claims he was banned for exposing predators, received cease-and-desist
In a series of posts on X, the 22-year-old claimed Roblox cited its newly added 'vigilante groups' clause in its Terms of Service as the reason for the ban. According to him, the platform accused him of violating its safety protocols.
The alleged letter from Roblox reads in part: 'We write on behalf of Roblox Corporation. This letter serves as a formal cease and desist notice regarding your unauthorized and harmful activities on the Roblox platform. Your actions are a violation of Roblox policies and directly undermine Roblox's safety efforts and, critically, are exposing our users to increased risk.'
Roblox added that while it recognizes Schlep's intention to protect children, his failure to report suspicious activity through official channels 'actively interferes with [its] established safety protocols."
'Roblox is committed to aggressively combating illegal and harmful conduct, including child exploitation, through a dedicated and sophisticated team of safety professionals, advanced moderation systems, and partnerships with law enforcement agencies," the letter states.
Following the letter, Schlep publicly appealed to Senator Ted Cruz on X.
'I live in Texas. Could I have a 5 minute conversation with you about Roblox I've gotten 6 predators across the country arrested from it, yet they sent ME a cease & desist. I was groomed on Roblox as kid by a child predator. There's been lawsuits in Texas right now regarding Roblox's negligence towards child safety. I would love to get in touch, I'll be sending an email as well to your office,' he wrote.
Reactions
The situation has sparked widespread support for Schlep online.
One person wrote, 'Time to cancel @Roblox we don't support companies or people who protect pedos.'
Another added, 'Roblox protecting predators over the people exposing them is actually insane like what are we even doing anymore.'
A third person wrote, 'A gaming platform banning someone from exposing child predators? Every parent should know to ban this game.'

Roblox getting banned? Why gaming platform is facing troubles in US and abroad
Roblox appears to be in a spot of trouble, as the online game platform attempts to battle growing controversies over child safety and its imposition of bans on 'vigilante' users. This has led to fears that Roblox might get banned. Roblox found itself in hot water when Schlep, who was working on delivering 'vigilante justice' found himself banned due to his actions.(AP) However, there is no such confirmation of Roblox getting banned in the US just yet, but it has happened elsewhere, which might explain the fears. Here's what has been happening with Roblox at home and abroad. Roblox troubles and bans: In the US and beyond On August 13, Qatar seemingly blocked Roblox. Qatar Tribune reported Roblox was no longer available to players throughout the country. While it could be downloaded on iOS or Android, if internet connections were deduced to be in Qatar, then the game could not be accessed. The move came over concerns regarding child safety, though there have been no official statements from Qatar or Roblox. Notably, countries like Oman, China, and Turkey have blocked Roblox in the past. Roblox has also run into trouble in Indonesia, with Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, last Thursday, calling for a tightening of safety measures, and alignment with the country's child protection regulations, Jakarta Globe reported. Meanwhile, Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill is also acting against Roblox. She announced on Thursday that she'd filed a lawsuit against Roblox in the state court, alleging that children headed to the platform are not protected from predators, Forbes reported. 'Roblox is overrun with harmful content and child predators because it prioritizes user growth, revenue, and profits over child safety,' Murrill said. Some days back, Roblox found itself in hot water when Schlep, who was working on delivering 'vigilante justice' found himself banned due to his actions. Roblox has long been criticized for its security shortcomings, prompting many to take up 'vigilante justice'. Roblox CEO David Baszucki has been working to put out the fires, as troubles seem to mount.

Roblox child abuse allegations: Here's a bite-by-bite breakdown of the controversy
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill has filed a lawsuit against Roblox Corporation, accusing the popular gaming platform is 'the perfect place for pedophiles.' Roblox claims to improve its moderation systems but faces criticism for inadequacies, including its crackdown on players posing as children to expose predators. REUTERS/Brendan McDermid/File Photo(REUTERS) 'Roblox is overrun with harmful content and child predators because it prioritizes user growth, revenue, and profits over child safety. Every parent should be aware of the clear and present danger posed to their children by Roblox so they can prevent the unthinkable from ever happening in their own home,' she said in her statement, later calling the platform a 'breeding ground for sex predators,' per the Washington Post. The Louisiana case goes further by demanding a jury trial, accusing Roblox of deceptive trade practices and negligence under state law. Murrill's office argues the company has 'created an abusive and unsafe environment for children.' The company said it was constantly working to improve its moderation systems. 'No system is perfect and bad actors adapt to evade detection,' Roblox said in a statement. They later posted more on X, noting, 'CEO @DavidBaszucki sits down with Roblox safety leaders to share how we're advancing safety and civility on the platform.' But critics argue Roblox hasn't done enough, one example is the platform's crackdown on 'vigilante' players who pose as children to expose predators. While some see them as whistleblowers, Roblox claims these vigilantes bypass its moderation systems. Concerns first gained national attention in October 2022 when a San Francisco lawsuit alleged the platform facilitated the exploitation of a California girl. Adult men reportedly used Roblox to lure her into drinking, abusing prescription drugs, and sharing explicit photos, according to Reuters. Earlier this year, another California lawsuit alleged that a predator groomed a 10-year-old girl he met on Roblox before moving the communication to Discord. The predator allegedly abducted her. That lawsuit, filed by Anapol Weiss, marked at least the seventh case accusing Roblox of systemic negligence.
