Juve's top-four dream hits the snooze button in Parma loss
JUVENTUS stumbled to a 1–0 defeat at Parma on Wednesday, failing to impress with a sleepy performance as they slipped out of the top four with the season now edging towards its conclusion.
Juve sit fifth on 59 points, one behind Bologna who occupy the final Champions League spot, with five rounds remaining. Parma, meanwhile, took a significant step away from the relegation zone and have 31 points — six clear of 18th-placed Venezia.
The first half was a dull affair, with both sides appearing to have already clocked off for an early end-of-season break, drifting through the motions and barely creating any real chances until the final minutes.
Mateo Pellegrino lit up the home crowd right before the break, soaring through the air in first-half stoppage time to meet a looping cross and head the ball with pinpoint precision into the net for the only goal of the match.
"We lacked a bit of everything. We pushed a lot in the second half, but we were not dangerous enough," Igor Tudor, who was appointed in March, told DAZN after his first loss as Juve coach.
"We lacked determination and desire. Too many times, we were just happy to participate. We must grow, be wicked and have the desire to win and fight."
Juve's Dusan Vlahovic was substituted during the break, with Italian media reporting that the striker suffered a thigh injury, with Francisco Conceicao replacing the Serbian.
The second half unfolded in the same lifeless fashion as the first, with Juve applying some late pressure, but Parma keeper Zion Suzuki proved a steady last line of defence, denying Juve any chance of an equaliser.
Juve will next host bottom club Monza on Sunday.
The Serie A clash between Genoa and Lazio was briefly halted in the first half after several smoke bombs were thrown onto the pitch, one of which struck Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas.
However, the Greek shot-stopper was cleared to continue and played the rest of the match, helping Lazio to a 2–0 win with goals from Valentin Castellanos and Boulaye Dia. — REUTERS

Soccer-Italy plans to scrap no single buyer rule in Serie A TV rights sale
FILE PHOTO: Soccer Football - Serie A - Napoli v Sassuolo - Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, Naples, Italy - August 27, 2023 General view inside the stadium before the match through the television camera REUTERS/Ciro De Luca/File Photo MILAN (Reuters) -Italy plans to remove a ban on Italy's Serie A top flight soccer league selling its domestic broadcast rights to a single buyer, a draft government bill seen by Reuters showed, marking a major overhaul of media rules for live sports events. Italy introduced the "no single buyer rule" to avoid creating a dominant player in the pay-TV sector in 2008, when it approved a law entrusting sport leagues to collectively sell the rights to screen live matches. Broadcasting rights are the main revenue source for Serie A clubs but they lag behind those of other major European national leagues. Under existing contracts expiring in the 2028-29 season, Serie A earns some 900 million euros ($1 billion) annually from sport streaming service DAZN and pay-TV firm Sky, with the former screening all of the games and Sky co-broadcasting some of them. That sum is roughly half of the annual domestic broadcasting revenue of England's Premier League, which has a 'no single buyer rule' in place. Germany's Bundesliga, which last year removed its 'no single buyer rule', pockets some 1.1 billion euros annually from domestic broadcasting licences, according to data compiled by UEFA. The Italian government also plans to introduce changes in the way Serie A distributes the TV revenue among clubs, raising to "above 50%" from the current 50% the sum which must be equally split among all clubs, the draft bill showed. Clubs which develop and field young Italian players will be also granted additional revenue.($1 = 0.8758 euros) (Reporting by Elvira PollinaEditing by Keith Weir)

Arsenal to play all WSL home games at Emirates Stadium
ARSENAL will play all 11 of next season's Women's Super League home matches at Emirates Stadium, and the club will offer season tickets for the first time, they said on Tuesday. The newly crowned Champions League winners, who have recorded some of the largest crowds in women's football, made the Emirates their main stadium last season, averaging 34,110 fans in the nine WSL games they played there. 'For us, this is just the beginning, and bringing every WSL match to the Emirates is another step for more supporters to be part of this special journey,' Arsenal coach Renee Slegers said. Arsenal, who defeated Barcelona 1-0 last month to win their first Champions League title in 18 years, still plan to play at Meadow Park, Borehamwood -- which has a total capacity of 4,500 -- in the Women's Champions League league phase, as well as FA Cup and League Cup games. If they qualify for the Champions League knockout stages, those matches would take place at the 60,704-capacity Emirates. Arsenal recorded a 20% increase in ticket sales for the 2024-25 season over the previous year, selling more than 415,000 tickets. WORLD CUP SPIKE However, while Arsenal hosted Manchester United in front of a WSL record 60,160 fans at the Emirates in February 2024, WSL attendance peaked that season following the 2023 Women's World Cup, when England reaching the final for the first time. Average attendance dropped by 10% this past campaign, with five WSL teams -- Arsenal, Aston Villa, Everton, Manchester City and Manchester United -- experiencing declines, according to Opta Sports. Aston Villa and Manchester United's attendances fell by 33% each, even after the former moved all their home matches to Villa Park. Manchester United women averaged 4,562 fans at their home base in Leigh Sports Village, which is not easily accessible for fans compared with the men's team's home at Old Trafford, 15 miles away in central Manchester. Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City, Brighton & Hove Albion, West Ham United and Chelsea all had attendance increases in 2024-25, with Liverpool boasting the highest growth at 54%, boosted by the three games played at Anfield. It is hoped that next month's European Championship in Switzerland could lead to an increase in attendances next season, similar to the post-World Cup spike. The large crowds at Arsenal, however, do not reflect the popularity of women's soccer globally, FIFA reported in March. Teams FIFA categorised as Tier 1 in their annual report on the women's game averaged 1,713 fans, while teams categorised as Tier 2 and 3 averaged only 480 and 380 fans. Everton, who averaged 2,062 fans in 2024-25, are moving to Goodison Park next season, with the men shifting from their long-time home ground to the new Everton Stadium. The WSL game at Goodison against Merseyside rivals Liverpool in November drew a season-high 9,823 crowd, while their lowest attendance was 754 against Crystal Palace at 2,200-capacity Walton Hall Park.

Tudor to remain as Juventus coach, says new GM Comolli
IGOR Tudor will remain in charge of Juventus next season after Damien Comolli, the club's new general manager, said on Tuesday that they had faith in the Croatian coach who was handed the reins less than three months ago. Tudor arrived in March after Juve sacked Thiago Motta, with the club having been knocked out of all the cup competitions and sitting outside the top four in Serie A. Juve lost only one more league game and finished fourth to qualify for the Champions League, but the 47-year-old warned his future must be decided before their Club World Cup campaign kicks off next week. 'I want to confirm that Tudor will be our coach for next season. I have already made this clear to him and we are working together,' Comolli told reporters. 'We are a great club and there is a lot of speculation, but I want to reiterate that Tudor will remain our coach.' Comolli, previously with French club Toulouse, is no stranger to Tudor's work. 'When he was at (Olympique) Marseille he beat us twice. We even laughed about it,' Comolli added. 'The intensity, the physical and mental stamina that his Marseille had, impressed me. He did an exceptional job at Marseille.' Comolli said he plans to hire a sporting director for transfers and a technical director to establish a clear structure at the club who have not won the Scudetto since the 2019-20 season when they lifted the trophy for the ninth year in a row. He also confirmed Randal Kolo Muani, who is on loan from Paris St Germain, would play in the Club World Cup even though his contract ends this month. 'We have not reached an agreement for next season, but I am optimistic that we can reach one, because PSG has not closed the door and Kolo Muani wants to stay with us,' Comolli said. Comolli also said he wants to speak to Dusan Vlahovic with the Serbian striker reportedly unsettled at Juve. Vlahovic was Juve's top scorer in each of the last three seasons. 'I want to understand what he wants to do. He is a top player and something this season didn't work,' he said. 'He is a top player and we also have to understand his intentions from a contractual point of view. When I understand all these things, I will be able to decide'.
