OREM, Utah () — An Orem man has been charged after allegedly threatening a family with a firearm after they visited a neighboring house that was for sale.
Adderly David Valera-Tabares, 36, has been charged with three felony counts of aggravated assault for threatening bodily injury with a dangerous weapon.
According to documents, on May 9, 2025, the Orem Police Department was dispatched to a home near 1000 N and 200 E St. in Orem on reports of a man threatening to kill a man, woman, and young child.

When officers arrived, the victims told police that they had pulled up to a home that had a for-sale sign to get a flyer. Upon pulling up to the home, Valera-Tabares came out of a neighboring residence and began yelling at the victims.
Valera-Tabares allegedly had a firearm in his right hand and began advancing toward the family, shouting about how he was 'going to kill them.' A neighbor heard all the noise and came out of their home to see what was going on.
As soon as Valera-Tabares saw the woman come out of her home, he reportedly turned around, tried to hide the firearm, and went back inside his house. The neighbor then contacted police.

Orem police officers discovered that Valera-Tabares had a history of mental health issues and reportedly struggled with schizophrenia. Mental health detectives from the police department then made phone contact with Valera-Tabares. He admitted that he had threatened the family, but denied that he had a firearm, police say.
The victims told police that they were certain he was holding a black handgun and filled out voluntary statement forms for the police. A search warrant executed on the home revealed that three black firearms were in a family member's bedroom, and a holster and 9 mm ammunition were in Valera-Tabares' bedroom.
Valera-Tabares was booked into the Utah County Jail but was later released on the condition that he would attend court appearances related to the case. His initial appearance was yesterday, May 27.
