Florida Derby 2025 Odds, Picks And Horses To Watch On Road To The Kentucky Derby

Forbes29-03-2025

The Road to the Kentucky Derby continues with two of the biggest championship series races on Saturday, March 29. The Florida Derby will draw plenty of watch and wager action on FanDuelTV along with the Arkansas Derby as major points races ahead of the May 3 Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. The 74th running of the $1 million Florida Derby (G1) drew 10 entries and headlines Saturday's card at Gulfstream Park that includes 10 stakes races (5 graded).
Fan-favorite race announcer Pete Aiello will call the Florida Derby and all of Saturday's races at Gulfstream Park.
Last Saturday's Louisiana Derby saw another longshot winner as Tiztastic (7/1) became the sixth horse at closing parimutuel odds of 7/1 or longer to win a championship series race this year with nine contested thus far. Another 100 points to the winner and 50 points to the runner-up in the Florida Derby and Arkansas Derby will secure the horses a spot in the Kentucky Derby if not yet qualified.
Along with wagering on the biggest races at FanDuel Racing, horse racing fans can tune into FanDuelTV to watch the Florida Derby and Arkansas Derby Saturday. The channel will broadcast racing from Gulfstream Park and Oaklawn Park, along with other tracks featured across FanDuelTV's broadcasts.
The Florida Derby will also be televised on CNBC and streamed on Peacock during a one-hour show as part of NBC Sports' Road to the Kentucky Derby series. The show will air from 6-7 p.m. ET on Sat., March 29 and the Gulfstream Park Oaks will also be highlighted on Saturday's show. .
For horse players looking to cash in on exacta and trifecta payouts and big bonus pools in the Pick 5, then get in on the action Saturday for the final weekend of the Championship Meet at Gulfstream Park.
Along with horse racing coverage and Florida Derby picks on FanDuel, I turned to the experts at Guaranteed Tip Sheet (GTS) and their Florida Derby wagering guide for more insight on the biggest races Saturday at Gulfstream headlined by the $1 million Florida Derby at 1 1/8 miles. Top win contenders are provided, and additional value plays, longshots along with more race details and analysis is available in the wagering guide.
Race 14 - Florida Derby
Value Plays and Longshots: #4 Disruptor (4/1) with jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. & trainer Todd Pletcher makes his stakes debut after winning a pair of maiden races as heavy favorite. #8 Madaket Road (7/2) finished 2nd in the Rebel Stakes for trainer Bob Baffert and HOF jockey Mike Smith rides him for the first time. Madaket Road is the only horse in the Florida Derby to race somewhere other than Gulfstream last out.
Guaranteed Tip Sheet notes that Bill Mott-trained Sovereignty is improving by the race and should creep into contention out of the turn with jockey Manny Franco guiding his surge home with strong late legs. Sovereignty is 2-for-2 in graded stakes starts and went last to first to capture the Fountain of Youth a month ago at Gulfstream. Tappan Street had a wide trip in his last bust should be in a better position early in this race with jockey Luis Saez riding for trainer Brad Cox. Neoequos will head to the front and try to stay there with jockey Edgard Zayas, and he's perhaps the best value in the race for trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr. Disruptor cost more than $1 million and could live up to that price tag here.
Sovereignty has posted 99 and 98 Equibase Speed Figures (ESF) in his two stakes races with the Fountain of Youth win earning him 50 points to already qualify for the Kentucky Derby. Madaket Road has the fastest ESF of the runners in this race having posted a 102 in winning the Rebel Stakes. Both Sovereignty and Tappan Street are sons of super sire Into Mischief, who has sired 8 Breeders' Cup winners and 22 Grade 1 winners with Authentic the 2020 Kentucky Derby winner and Mandaloun the 2021 Kentucky Derby winner on disqualification.
More Florida Derby horses and contenders notes from FanDuel Racing. Seven Florida Derby runners have gone on to win the Kentucky Derby since 2000. Mage, who finished 2nd in the 2023 Florida Derby, was the last horse to come out of Gulfstream Park's marquee race for 3-year-olds and go on to win the Kentucky Derby.
Also, follow the 3-year-old fillies as they compete for points to qualify for the 2025 Kentucky Oaks on May 2. The $250,000 Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2) is Race 9 Saturday and seven 3-year-old fillies are entered with a pair of favorites expected to decide the race.
Guaranteed Tip Sheet picks #4 Five G (8/5) to win over #3 The Queen M G (9/5) making her first start over two-turns. Also, #6 Cassiar (5/1) a challenger making her second start with the most upside.
Along with the Florida Derby and Arkansas Derby, more Kentucky Derby Championship Series coverage ahead. The final three 100-point win races are next Saturday, April 5 as horse racing fans enjoy the Derby Trail and try to cash in on the biggest watch and wager races until the Run for the Roses May 3 at Churchill Downs.
You can bet on it.

Fox Sports Taking Heat for Its Terry Bradshaw Decision

Saturday marked the final race in one of sports' most time-honored traditions: the Triple Crown of horse racing. Fans flocked to New York and tuned in on FOX to see Kentucky Derby winner Sovereignty defeat Preakness winner Journalism once again to take two of the three crown jewel races. Fans enjoyed the on-track action, but they were dismayed by FOX's decision to include an analyst from a completely different sport. Advertisement Former NFL quarterback and longtime NFL on FOX analyst Terry Bradshaw handled some of the pre-race festivities, and the Hall of Famer struggled through some of the presentation. He named Saturday's race as the "137th" Belmont Stakes, when it was actually the 157th running of the race. "I appreciate someone other than NBC having coverage of a big horse race, but Fox really needs to work on production. The crowd mic is potted astronomically high, and Terry Bradshaw has no place on the broadcast," said one sports journalist on social media. "Imagine being a horse racing expert and you get your moment on TV on one of the very few days your sport gets to shine and you're ready to show your wisdom and spread love of your sport to the masses and then you're placed on equal footing to Terry Bradshaw," another person said. Advertisement The tradition of adding crossover properties to horse racing is nothing new. NBC went all-out in 2025 for the Kentucky Derby, inviting and speaking with several celebrities and names from its several networks, shows and movies on traditional television. "NBC Sports needs the entire Triple Crown. Fox Sports is bad. Terry Bradshaw bad," another horse racing fan said. FOX may not be the preferred home of horse racing for the average fan, but in order to get the full Triple Crown experience, they'll need to deal with the network for at least a few more years. FOX and the New York Racing Association have negotiated a rights deal that makes the network the exclusive home of the race and all associated events on the grounds through at least 2030. Advertisement "FOX Sports has quickly become the year-round home of the finest thoroughbred racing in the country,' said NYRA president and CEO Dave O'Rourke. After Saturday's experience, it seems that more than a few fans would beg to differ. Fox Sports Taking Heat for Its Terry Bradshaw Decision first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 8, 2025

Aaron Rodgers Fuels Marriage Rumors with Ring Seen in Steelers Contract Photo

Aaron Rodgers continues to fuel rumors that he is married The NFL star can be seen wearing a dark-colored band on his left ring finger in a photo celebrating his new contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers The photo comes after Rodgers revealed in April that he was in a "serious relationship"Aaron Rodgers is once again sparking rumors that he is married. After previously making several public outings wearing what appeared to be a wedding ring on his left hand, the NFL star appeared in a new photo sporting a dark-colored band on his left ring finger. On Saturday, June 7, the NFL and the Steelers shared the photo in a joint Instagram post celebrating Rodgers' new contract with the Pittsburgh team. "Officially official ✍️," the two football organizations captioned the post. The photo shows Rodgers, 41, smiling as he rested his left hand on the paper contract and held a pen in his other hand. He repped his new team by wearing a black cap with a yellow Steelers logo. According to CBS Sports, the quarterback inked a one-year deal worth $13.65 million, $10 million of which is guaranteed. Rodgers first revealed in December 2024 that he was dating a woman named Brittani while appearing on The Pat McAfee Show. At the time, he was discussing how he had shifted from mall shopping for Christmas gifts to ordering them online. 'There was one package left for my girlfriend Brittani that hadn't showed up yet,' he said, casually dropping his relationship status. 'I was waiting on this to show up, it showed up today.' A.J. Hawk, McAfee's co-host and Rodgers' former Green Bay Packers teammate, then jokingly asked, 'Spears?' prompting Rodgers to clarify, "Not Brittany Spears, no, this is Brittani with an 'i.' " He also noted that Brittani does not have social media. Later in the conversation, when McAfee suggested that Rodgers was "in love" with Brittani, the athlete smiled and declared, "It's a good feeling, boys. It is." Months later, during another appearance on the show on April 17, Rodgers shared that he was in "a serious relationship" and his priorities were shifting. "I'm in a different phase of my life," he explained. "I'm 41 years old, I'm in a serious relationship. I have off-the-field stuff going on that requires my attention. I have personal commitments I made not knowing what my future was going to look like after last year, that are important to me." Rodgers first ignited rumors that he had gotten married when he stepped out to the annual Barnstable Gala last month, on the eve of the Kentucky Derby in Louisville, sporting a new accessory — a dark-colored band that appears to be the same one seen in the recent contract-signing photo. So far, Rodgers has remained mum on the marriage speculation. However, his friend Hawk appeared on The Pat McAfee Show on May 6 and admitted that even he was confused by Rodgers' ring. "No update from this situation," he said, adding, "Surprisingly enough, I did not press him on this." "To tell you the truth, I don't know if I have any answers on that situation. He's very private and mysterious when it comes to things like that, and this is definitely one of those, for sure," Hawk added. The former linebacker also noted that his friend "seems very happy" these days while reiterating, "But not a lot of clarity on this situation, I'm not going to lie." Rodgers was previously engaged to actress Shailene Woodley. The pair ended their relationship in April 2022. Read the original article on People

Steph Curry's Thirty Ink Generates $174 Million In 2024, 'It's About Creating True Representation And Opportunity From A Grassroots Level'

Steph Curry's house-of-brands conglomerate Thirty Ink generated $173.5 million in revenue in 2024, the company told CNBC on Wednesday. Thirty Ink owns Unanimous Media, Gentleman's Cut bourbon, and Underrated Golf and Basketball. However, the highest percentage of the company's revenue comes from Curry's partnership with Under Armour (NYSE:UAA, UA)). There, the NBA star is president of Curry Brand, a basketball and golf footwear and apparel line. As a part of the 2023 deal with the sportswear company, Curry was given 8.8 million common shares, which were valued at $75 million at the time. The company said that while it incurs annual expenses for using Curry's name, image, and likeness, it doesn't rack up traditional bottom-line operational costs, which allows for its exorbitant earnings. Thirty Ink's secretary chair, Suresh Singh, told CNBC that every brand under the company's umbrella is profitable. "It's completely unique. One of the big things, I believe, is that there's a lot of athlete- and celebrity-driven partnerships and businesses that aren't necessarily focused on profit, aren't necessarily focused on mission. We do both," he said. "Obviously, from a national perspective, a lot of the narrative is trying to peel back programs and opportunities that are programs and resources that are allowing people to have just a fair shot and a fair chance," Curry said in an interview with CNBC. "Everything that we do and what I can control is about true equity. If you look at all of our businesses — our DEI writers for Unanimous, or even looking at something like the Underrated brand — it's about creating true representation and opportunity from a grassroots level." And hopefully that's an example for how our country should," he told CNBC. Thirty Ink's mission is to "elevate the under" according to its website, a goal that manifests differently for every brand. Unanimous Media co-founder and co-CEO Eric Peyton told CNBC that it looks like hiring diverse writers to create projects about family, faith and sports. "[Curry's] vision is to inspire through media," he said. It's really a feeling when you watch our projects, hopefully you're a little bit happier, you know, maybe it makes you feel a little bit better." Unanimous Media is currently four years into a first-look deal with Comcast's (NASDAQ:CMCSA) NBC Universal unit. Next year, it will release its first full-length feature film, "GOAT," with Sony Pictures Animation. With Gentlemen's Cut and Underrated Golf and Basketball, that mission expresses itself as a commitment to DEI. Gentlemen's Cut was in talks with a buyer who wanted to feature Black-owned businesses, in 2024. The Trump administration's crackdown on DEI squashed the deal, but it would have valued the business between $120 million and $200 million, a source told CNBC. Underrated Golf, according to the company's website, is specifically designed to give Black children an opportunity to participate in a sport that hasn't historically catered to them.
