Take a look at Buford High School's new $62 million football stadium
Buford High School officially cut the ribbon on the new Dexter Wood Field at Phillip Beard Stadium this week. It's named after former education chairman Phillip Beard and former head coach Dexter Wood, who won three state titles.

The stadium can fit up to 10,000 fans and features 1,543 premium seats. There are also 15 suites with catering services offered and a special event room.
In the endzone, fans can look up and see the giant, 44 feet x 82 feet scoreboard.
'I can't say enough about the support that we receive from our school board and city. Having a chance to play all of our home games in a venue like this is unprecedented in the state of Georgia and most of the nation. We can't thank them enough for the opportunity to have a home game experience like this,' Buford head coach Bryant Appling said.
Buford hosts Milton on Aug. 14 for the first official game at the new stadium.

Channel 2's Candace McCowan asked Director of Athletic facilities Tony Wolfe if there were other stadiums like this in Georgia. He didn't think so and said this stadium might even be giving Texas high school football stadiums a run of their money.
Wolfe said the stadium is actually owned by the city and leased by the district.
He said the community loves this school, as demonstrated by the new expansive school across the street and other facilities like their performing arts center that's just as nice.

Jhoan Durán earns a save in his Philly debut as Philadelphia rallies to beat the Tigers 5-4
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jhoan Durán earned a save in his Philadelphia debut after Bryson Stott beat a throw to first base and was ruled safe on an overturned review call for the go-ahead RBI single in the eighth inning as the Phillies beat the Detroit Tigers 5-4 on Friday night. The Phillies trailed 3-0 in the seventh and 4-3 in the eighth, rallying each time against the AL Central leaders and setting the stage for Durán's ballyhooed debut. With former WWE star The Undertaker's gong setting the soundtrack, Durán entered with only iPhone lights on in the ballpark and flames on the big screen to create the dramatic mood. Duran did the rest in his first appearance since his trade-deadline acquisition from Minnesota. He retired the side in order in the ninth inning — on four pitches — for his 17th save. The Phillies rallied without slugger Bryce Harper, ejected in the seventh inning for arguing a called third strike on a check swing. Mabrey and Charles help Connecticut beat short-handed New York 78-62
UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — Marina Mabrey scored 18 points and Tina Charles added 15 to help the Connecticut Sun beat the short-handed New York Liberty 78-62 on Friday night. It was the fourth consecutive loss for the Liberty (17-10), who were missing Breanna Stewart. The star forward is recovering from a bone bruise in her right knee. New York also was without Nyara Sabally (knee) and Kennedy Burke (right calf strain) and only had eight healthy players. The team is in the midst of its longest losing streak since 2022 when the franchise had five-game and seven-game skids. Emma Meesseman joined the squad on Friday and the 2019 WNBA Finals MVP suited up, but didn't play as she was still getting acclimated to the squad. Coach Sandy Brondello expects her to be in the lineup on Sunday when the teams play again in Connecticut. For the Sun (5-21), it was a big victory for a young team looking to establish its identity.
