Labubu parties across India are redefining cute and quirky decor
Oscar Luxe Club in Noida rode the viral Labubu wave on July 12 with a themed night offering free entry. Guests arrived in Labubu-inspired outfits, posed with mascots, and danced the night away. Saloni Sharma, marketing head, shares, "Watching people of all ages come together, dress up, and go all in made it feel like more than just a party. It felt movement."
In Mumbai, Someplace Else at The Park Hotel threw a 'LabubuLand' party on July 26, where guests grooved while holding Labubu cutouts. Supriti Sahay, sales and marketing director, explains, "We wanted to bring that viral energy into a real-world party glitch. We had Labubu-themed photobooths and even Labubu-on-the-beach cocktails for the guests," shares sales and marketing director Supriti Sahay.
A themed night at Cyclone Modern Dine In & Club in Nagpur kicked off the Labubu craze in early July. Event curator Nilesh Rokde shares, "It was the first time something this experimental happened here. We wanted the crowd to enter a whimsical zone. With quirky vibes, décor, neon lights, exclusive Labubu-themed zones, photo booths, the night was filled with non-stop party energy!"
Pune's English House hosted a Labubu bash straight out of a fantasy cartoon, with tickets priced at 500 and Labubu plushies gifted to all women on arrival. "The response was overwhelming. People came in early just for the plush toys we gave away," says business head, Shubham.
Down south in Goa, Diaz Pool Club & Bar turned up the heat with a Labubu night last month. DJ Yogi handed out plushies, sparking wild excitement from the crowd. "When I asked, 'Who wants a Labubu?' the crowd went mad. So, the craze is real," he tells us.
Bring the Labubu vibe home: DIY decor ideas
Set the tone with Labubu's signature colours like neon pinks, purples, and pastels. Use fairy lights and glow sticks to create a whimsical, cartoon-like space. Print and place Labubu character cutouts around the venue. Set up a DIY photo booth with props and themed backdrops for fun pictures. Set up your snack table with pastel bowls and quirky coasters to match the playful vibe. Add handwritten menu tags with fun names like 'Labubu Shots' or 'Plushie Popcorn' to tie it all together. Add removable stickers with Labubu footprints that lead guests to different 'zones' — snacks, dance area, game corner, etc. Make it special by gifting mini plushies, stickers, or even DIY Labubu keychains to the guests.

Sydney Sweeney registered Republican? Euphoria actor slammed again after American Eagle advertisement row
'Sydney Sweeney has great jeans'. The American Eagle advertisement, which became a much talked-about affair, also thrust the Euphoria actor into the center of a controversy. Sydney Sweeney appears to be a registered Republican in the state of Florida.(AFP) Many slammed Sweeney for seemingly promoting eugenics, though the company, in a recent statement, has denied any deeper meaning ferreted out by folks online. While even the White House jumped to Sweeney's defense – or more accurately, decided to take on the 'woke' army as the MAGA base likes to call it – the 27-year-old found herself smack dab in the middle of another row. Sydney Sweeney appears to be a registered Republican in the state of Florida. Republican Sydney Sweeney draws backlash Voter records from Florida, accessed by show one Sydney B Sweeney registered for the Republican Party of Florida in 2024. Sweeney's middle name is Bernice. Her voter status shows active, meaning she is registered to vote. could not verify if Florida's Sydney B Sweeney is the same person as the actor. Interestingly, Sweeney was born in Spokane, Washington, and her work keeps her in Los Angeles, mostly, so why is she a registered Republican from Florida? Well, the actor purchased a home in Florida's Summerland Key for a whopping $13.5 million, last year. Meanwhile, the news of Sweeney being a registered Republican has drawn a variety of responses online. 'That!! I can't believe this isn't highlighted enough, Sydney Sweeney is MAGAT at the core,' one person said on Reddit. Another remarked 'Girly is from Spokane, we Washington folks knew.' Spokane County reportedly has voted for Republican for a president, all but three times since 1948. One person on X, meanwhile, said 'it's so crazy sydney sweeney is a republican and bill burr isn't.' Another remarked 'sydney sweeney has fascists and nazis coming to her defense. of course she's a republican.' Yet another user said 'remember when sydney sweeney's family was outted as MAGA? she attended a wedding where several of her family members were wearing the thin blue line and MAGA merch? and everyone online said just bc her family is like that doesn't mean she is? well she's a registered republican.' Notably, this isn't exactly accurate. Sweeney and her family did face backlash for purported MAGA support back in 2023, but it was during her mother's birthday party, when the family was in Idaho. Sweeney clarified to Variety that those with the MAGA-inspired merch were not her family, and reportedly were her mother's friends from LA, whose kids 'are walking outside in the Pride parade'. On the work front, Sweeney will next be seen in The Housemaid, a psychological thriller from Paul Feig.

The Kerala Story's National Award win 'insult to noble tradition of Indian cinema': Angry CM Pinarayi Vijayan slams jury
The Kerala Story was among the big winners for Bollywood at the 71st National Film Awards, announced on Friday. The film won two awards for Best Director and Best Cinematography. But even as the team behind the film celebrated, the triumph erupted into a political controversy, with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan slamming the jury. The Kerala Story starred Adah Sharma in the lead. Kerala CM slams film's win The controversial film on religious conversions in the state was opposed by CM Vijayan and his party when it originally released in 2023. On Friday, after the announcement of the awards, the CM took to X (formerly Twitter) and alleged that the move "lent credibility" to a narrative rooted in the "divisive" ideology of the Sangh Parivar. 'By honouring a film that spreads blatant misinformation with the clear intent of tarnishing Kerala's image and sowing seeds of communal hatred, the jury of the National Film Awards has lent legitimacy to a narrative rooted in the divisive ideology of the Sangh Parivar. Kerala, a land that has always stood as a beacon of harmony and resistance against communal forces, has been gravely insulted by this decision,' the CM wrote in his tweet. Kerala CM also said that the awards jury has insulted the noble tradition of Indian cinema that stood for "religious brotherhood" and national integration. "Through this, they are implementing the Sangh Parivar agenda of turning cinema into a weapon to implement the communal agenda. We strongly protest against this action. Every Malayali and all democratic believers in the country should raise their voice against this injustice. We must rally against politics that turn art into a weapon to foster communalism," he added. The Kerala Story's National Award win At the 71st National Film Awards, The Kerala Story won Best Director and Best Cinematography awards. Directed by Sudipto Sen and starring Adah Sharma, The Kerala Story, which was released on May 5, 2023, emerged as one of the most successful films at the box office. However, the movie came in for severe criticism from some quarters, with many, including Opposition leaders, alleging that it falsely claimed that 32,000 women, who went missing from Kerala, were forced into terrorism upon alleged conversion or sold to ISIS as sex slaves. The movie faced a backlash in several states, with the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government imposing a ban on screening the film in the state. (With ANI inputs)
