The online creative writing school will award $100,000 to one aspiring author with a judging panel including Emma Roberts, Tayari Jones and more.

Designed to discover fresh literary talent, the competition will award one winner $100,000 along with a year of support from The Novelry team to develop their idea for a novel into a fully realized fiction book.
The Next Big Story is open to all aspiring writers, including occasional readers who need encouragement to begin, individuals with limited time or means, and those who have been historically overlooked by the publishing industry. Entry to the competition opens on Thursday, May 1, and the requirements for submission are the first three pages of a novel. The pages will be reviewed by a high-profile judging panel, including Emma Roberts, American actress and BELLETRIST book club cofounder; Tayari Jones, Women's Prize for Fiction-winning author; Zosia Mamet, American actress and author of My First Popsicle: An Anthology of Food and Feelings; Julia Quinn, New York Times bestselling author of the Bridgerton series; Carley Fortune, New York Times bestselling author of This Summer Will Be Different, Meet Me at the Lake, and Every Summer After; Jackie Oshry, co-host of The Toast and author of The Camper and the Counselor; Zibby Owens, Podcast host of Totally Booked with Zibby, author, publisher, bookstore owner; Yann Martel, Booker Prize-winning author of Life of Pi; Brady Lockerby, social media influencer and BookToker; Kimmy Nwokorie, social media influencer and BookToker.

Drums. "Yellow Submarine." Thomas and Friends. And, of course, there's always the musician's iconic catchphrase: "Peace and love." It's long been assumed by many that Starr, 84, came up with his motto after visiting India with the other Beatles — John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison — in 1968. But as he recently told the Associated Press, Starr was actually inspired to coin the phrase after spending time in a particular American city. 'It actually came, for me, from San Francisco, where the hippies were,' Starr said. 'They were, of course, great peace and lovers, and then it changed. But I found a picture the other day of the four of us [giving the peace sign]...I didn't invent it, I just picked it up. Johnwas a big proponent of peace and love, and it just came to me.' In the years since, however, Starr has come to appreciate the true value of his message, which the world might need to hear now more than ever. 'I think it's important every day — and right now the world is going through a madness. Maybe it'll help,' Starr said. Later in the same interview, the drummer admitted that he's naturally 'an optimist, not a pessimist," referencing the challenges of his early life (which included contracting tuberculosis and spending two years in a sanatorium, where he learned to play the drums). 'I just feel positive,' he explained, 'Not every day, and not all my life, but some of those things I knew I needed from what I was 13, really ill in hospital.' "Whenever we were in Pasadena, of course, we talked about last season and him winning a national championship. I was super happy for him," Williams said.
