The Boston Red Sox's decision to trade Rafael Devers will go down as one of the most shocking moves in MLB history. Sparking an intense reaction from the media and fans alike, Monday was the first time Red Sox players had an opportunity to share their opinions.

Shortstop Trevor Story admitted, via MassLive's Christopher Smith, that the timing of the trade was 'weird' based on how the team is playing. Story added that manager Alex Cora is the only person to have addressed the team before Monday's game against the Seattle Mariners. Not even Boston's chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, the man responsible for trading Devers, has spoken to the team yet.
Breslow, rightfully, is taking the most blame for trading away Devers. The two had lingering issues dating back to the offseason when the third baseman refused a positional change. Breslow signed Alex Bregman to play third base instead, forcing Devers' hand. The three-time All-Star felt disrespected, and it was impossible to repair their relationship afterward.

Despite Breslow's responsibility in the deal, starting pitcher Walker Buehler, who is used to mid-season trades during his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers, said the team is not entitled to an explanation. However, the former All-Star added that "From an outside perspective, it would be logical for Breslow to address the team,' via Smith's post on X.
The most noticeable reaction was from Boston's ace Garrett Crochet, who had a lot to say and started by echoing Buehler's comments.

'I think that the front office doesn't owe us an explanation. Quite frankly, what they're doing is what's best for the team, and we have to respect that. I think as players, it's on us to continue to do our job.'
Crochet then shared a strong message to the team and fanbase in the aftermath of the Devers trade.
'Obviously, he has a big presence in the lineup. We'll miss that, but we can't really just sit here and harp on that. I don't think that does anybody in this room any good. I don't think that that's what the fan base wants to hear us say either." Crochet finishes, "Quite frankly, for us, it's just let's keep stacking wins. We're coming off a really good week, but all that did was get us back to .500. We have to keep pushing forward, and we still have a lot of ground to make up to be the team we want to be.'
Pushing forward is what Boston will have to do, but now without the top slugger. As Red Sox players try to process the change, they must focus on their three-game series against the Mariners before the emotions reach an ultimate high on Friday, when they travel to San Francisco to face Devers for the first time in his new threads.

Latest ESPN NBA Mock Draft has Jase Richardson landing just outside lottery

The NBA Draft is just over a week away so where will Michigan State star Jase Richardson land? ESPN's latest mock draft suggests it'll be just outside of the lottery. ESPN released an updated NBA Mock Draft on Tuesday, which pegged Richardson to be selected just outside of the lottery. This latest mock draft from ESPN has Richardson going No. 16 overall to the Memphis Grizzlies -- who just acquired this pick from the Orlando Magic in a trade. Advertisement Jonathan Givony had this to say about Richardson and the Grizzlies pairing: "The Grizzlies are exactly the type of team that could be interested in an ultra-efficient, productive young prospect such as Richardson, who rates highly in draft models that analytics-savvy teams like Memphis often pay attention to. "Richardson possesses an excellent feel for the game, hit 41% of his 3-pointers this season, brings strong defensive intensity and looks adept at playing off the star power of a teammate like Ja Morant, whose future in Memphis is to be determined. As Richardson's shot-creation diversity and offensive aggressiveness evolve, he could be someone who eventually inherits more significant ballhandling responsibilities, if the Grizzlies decide to pivot toward a youth movement." Richardson has widely been considered a fringe-lottery pick after starring for the Spartans in his lone season in college. He averaged 12.1 points per game and shot above 40% from three-point range, which quickly turned him into an NBA first round projection. Why Russell Wilson could be New York Giants' key to avoiding another lost season

After years of subpar quarterback play, the New York Giants believed they resolved this issue when they signed Russell Wilson to a one-year contract in March. No other position is more important than quarterback, and perhaps no team has upgraded its quarterback position more this season than the Giants. The team firmly believes that the 36-year-old Wilson will help them win many of the one-score games they've lost in the past. Advertisement However, despite being led by a 10-time Pro Bowler, many outside the organization expect the team to finish last in the NFC East and have another double-digit losing season. But perhaps they're undervaluing the upgrade that Wilson brings to the position. Here's why people shouldn't undervalue the future Hall of Fame quarterback being the team's new starter. Fourth-best career TD-to-INT ratio in NFL history Credit: Chris Pedota, / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images One of the biggest reasons for New York's struggles over the last several seasons was Daniel Jones' poor touchdown-to-interception ratio. During his time with the Giants, Jones threw 70 touchdowns with 47 interceptions. Advertisement Wilson, on the other hand, has one of the best touchdown-to-interception ratios in NFL history, having thrown 350 touchdowns to just 111 interceptions. His 3.15 touchdown-to-interception ratio is the fourth-highest in NFL history. He's never thrown more than 13 interceptions in a season, and in eight of his 13 seasons, he's had single-digit interceptions, including his last two seasons with the Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers. When a team lacks talent at several positions, as the Giants have over the last few seasons, it's nearly impossible to overcome losing the turnover battle. With the upgrades that general manager Joe Schoen has made to the roster this offseason, in addition to Wilson, fans should have optimism that the team can be one of the surprise teams in the league this year. Wilson shows no signs of slowing down Credit: Chris Pedota, / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Some may not think Wilson being the team's new starting quarterback is significant because he'll turn 37 in November. However, despite entering his 14th year in the league, he has shown no signs of slowing down. Advertisement In 2024 with the Steelers, he completed 63.7 percent of his passes while throwing for 2,482 yards and 16 touchdowns with just five interceptions in 11 games. In contrast, New York quarterbacks last season completed 61.9% of their passes while throwing for 3,521 yards with 15 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 17 games. By his standards, that might be considered a down year for Wilson, but he finished 14th in passing rating at 95.6. He's never posted a quarterback rating under 84.4, evidenced by the fact that he's been voted to the Pro Bowl in 10 of his 13 seasons. Although he'll be playing for his third different team in three seasons, there's no reason to believe he'll have a down year in 2025 when he'll be throwing to Malik Nabers, who is more talented than any receiver Wilson has played with in recent years. In addition, he'll be playing in Brian Daboll's offense, which caters to Wilson's athletic ability and should make him more efficient this year. Wilson and the team will get a chance to prove their doubters wrong beginning in Week 1, but during Tuesday's media session, the veteran quarterback was asked if he's a better athlete when he has something to prove to people. Advertisement 'I think you're always just trying to prove yourself right. I know what I'm capable of every day. I never lack confidence,' Wilson said. We'll get to see more of what Wilson and the Giants offense are capable of when the team reports to training camp at the end of July. Related Headlines

Riley's sacrifice fly in 10th inning caps Braves' comeback for 5-4 win over Mets

ATLANTA — Austin Riley hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to deep center field in the 10th inning, lifting the Atlanta Braves to a 5-4 comeback win over the New York Mets on Tuesday night. Marcell Ozuna tied the score with a three-run double in the eighth, and the Braves rebounded from a 10-1 loss at home Sunday to lowly Colorado. Atlanta has won four of five. New York, which leads the NL East, has dropped four in a row for the first time this season. Luke Williams opened the bottom of the 10th on second as the automatic runner. He scampered to third on a wild pitch from Huascar Brazobán (3-2) when catcher Francisco Alvarez made an ill-advised throw to second with Williams hung up between bases. Brazobán walked Matt Olson to load the bases, and Riley's flyball allowed Williams to score easily. Raisel Iglesias (4-5) pitched a perfect inning for the win. Tyrone Taylor homered and drove in three runs, and Juan Soto also homered as the Mets built a 4-1 lead. Soto singled in the ninth off Dylan Lee but was doubled off first base after Ronald Acuña Jr. caught Pete Alonzo's drive at the right-field wall. The first pitch was delayed 56 minutes by rain. The Braves loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth with three singles off starter David Peterson and reliever Reed Garrett. Olson struck out against Garrett, and Riley hit a pop fly to shallow right field before Ozuna's double off Garrett tied the game. According to research from the Elias Sports Bureau provided by the Braves, their 71st game of the season was the latest they've played their first game against a division opponent in 25 years. During the 2000 season, they played their first game against the Montreal Expos in their 76st game. Braves left-hander Chris Sale (4-4, 2.79 ERA) will face Mets right-hander Paul Blackburn (0-0, 6.75) on Wednesday night. Sale had his scheduled start Sunday against Colorado pushed back so he would be available against the Mets. ___ AP MLB:
