Once again, the Dallas Cowboys find themselves caught up in off-field drama regarding the contract situation of a key player. As things continue to unravel, one analyst sounded off on Jerry Jones for how he's conducted business thus far.
Earlier this year, Micah Parsons and Jones reportedly had talks about an extension for the All-Pro linebacker. Despite things almost being worked out at one point, it's slowly evolved into a worst-case scenario for the Cowboys. The front office has had little to no talks with Parsons' agent, resulting in a growing frustration that led to a stunning trade request last week.
Although the Cowboys have no plans of moving on from the homegrown star, the end of this saga appears to be nowhere in sight.

While on FS1's First Things First earlier this week, Nick Wright chimed in on the standoff between Parsons and the Cowboys. He went on a fiery rant about Jones, bashing him for trying to get things done without involving the necessary parties.
"You can't say I came to a handshake agreement with a non-negotiating party," Wright said. "Micah is not the negotiating party for Micah Parsons. Jerry is the negotiating party for the Cowboys. It's not his business. It is outrageous to me for Jerry to spring on Micah a contract discussion. They get to wherever it seems okay, and then be like it's done we negotiated. He knows better than that."

These bold tactics from the Cowboys are nothing new, as they had similar dragged-out affairs with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. That said, things with Parsons continue to move towards a point of no return.
Earlier this week, it was reported that Parsons and the Cowboys' owner haven't spoken since he voiced his trade request.

Despite how things look at the moment, Jones doesn't seem to be worried about Parsons' future in Dallas. When recently talking about the defensive star, he had nothing but good things to say about him while hinting at him still being part of the Cowboys' future.
"I think the world of Micah," Jones said after Tuesday's practice, via The Athletic. "He's one of the brightest people I've ever been around. He's very, very talented. Now, how we ultimately meld him in with our future is a challenge. I'm built for it and he's built for it."
With the start of the regular season less than a month away, the Cowboys are running out of time to put this situation behind them before the 2025 campaign gets underway.

A day after tying Strawberry's franchise record with his 252nd career homer, Alonso said his relationship with the former All-Star outfielder only adds to the magnitude of the achievement. Advertisement Strawberry has been a presence within the organization in recent seasons as a guest spring training instructor and club ambassador. 'The fact that we have an in-person, face-to-face relationship is awesome,' Alonso said Sunday before the Mets faced the Brewers. 'He's just one of those guys that means so much to this organization.' Pete Alonso gestures as he rounds the bases after tying Darryl Strawberry with his 252nd home run with the Mets on Aug. 9, 2025. AP Advertisement Alonso, who left the clubhouse a night earlier before speaking to reporters — he had a family matter to which he needed to attend — said it was difficult for him in the moment to celebrate the historic clout, which occurred in the second inning, because the Mets had a game to win. Ultimately, the team lost 7-4. CHECK OUT THE LATEST MLB STANDINGS AND METS STATS It was just the latest memorable home run for Alonso at American Family Field. Last year, his ninth-inning blast against Devin Williams lifted the Mets to victory in Game 3 of the National League wild-card series. And two years earlier he homered in this ballpark to help the Mets clinch a wild-card berth. The blast also helped Max Scherzer secure career victory No. 200. Advertisement 'It's a great place to hit — I see the ball pretty well here,' Alonso said. 'I still think my second-favorite homer here was the three-run homer against Corbin Burnes that gave Max the win and it was our first time clinching a playoff spot in [six] years. My first favorite is obviously the playoff homer.' Alonso was asked if he would have believed it if someone told him before his rookie season he would eventually catch Strawberry on the franchise's all-time homer list. Darryl Strawberry Corey Sipkin for the NY POST 'If the circumstances allowed me, I would have [believed it],' Alonso said. 'For me it was all about staying healthy and playing as many games as possible and doing my part to help the team win. Advertisement 'To say you are a franchise leader, it's special. Not many people get to see that. You have the runway to play here. I have been here seven years and with my game and skill set if you were to tell me that, it would be like, 'OK, yeah, sweet, checks out.'' Alonso, 30, said he could envision himself joining the 500-home run club before his career concludes. 'It's circumstantial, but if I stay healthy and perform, I can get there,' Alonso said. 'I would like to play until I am 40. I think if I stay healthy and continue to perform [500 homers] is reasonable.'

Trae Young reportedly 'resigned' to idea he will not sign extension with Hawks this summer

Atlanta was aggressive this offseason in retooling its roster. They traded for Kristaps Porzingis, who brings much-needed shot blocking to Atlanta. The Hawks sign-and-traded for Nickeil Alexander-Walker to add shooting and more defense on the wing. The Hawks went out and got Luke Kennard. Add in Jalen Johnson's return to health, along with the potential of a Zaccharie Risacher leap in his second season, and the Hawks look like a potential top-four team in the East. The one area Atlanta was not aggressive this summer: Talking contract extension with Trae Young. While that may leave Young frustrated, both sides appear resigned to the idea of Young playing out this season on his current contract and figuring out the future next summer, reports Jake Fischer at The Stein Line. 'Yet league sources tell me there are no plans for Young and the Hawks to engage in extension talks this summer. This, though, does not necessarily come as a surprise... Sources say Young's side has actually been resigned for some time to the prospect of seeing out the final guaranteed year on his current contract rather than securing an extension, like his current contract, worth in excess of $200 million. He'd then have to make a decision about his $49 million player option for 2026-27.' To be clear, Young isn't looking to leave the Hawks and they aren't looking to trade him. This is a matter of the Atlanta organization wanting to play this season out with this improved roster, see what things look like and how it all meshes, and then make financial commitments next summer, when Porzingis will be a free agent and Young can opt out of the final year of his contract and hit the market as well. The risk for the Hawks is that Young opts out and signs elsewhere, and they lose him for nothing. However, considering how tight the free agent market has been in the apron era, Atlanta may be willing to take that risk. Next June, the Hawks also have the Pelicans' first-round pick unprotected (part of New Orleans trading up in this year's draft to get Derik Queen). If New Orleans struggles this season — a genuine possibility — this could end up being a high draft pick in a deep draft at the top, which could have Atlanta tweaking its vision for the future. For Young, he can turn his frustration into an opportunity — if the four-time All-Star can spark the Hawks' offense and lead this team to a high seed and a playoff run, his value goes up heading into the next round of negotiations (with the threat of him becoming a free agent and just walking away looming). However it plays out, it looks more and more like Young will not be joining Luka Doncic, De'Aaron Fox and other stars who signed extensions this summer.
