Tom Cruise's ex Rebecca De Mornay drops rare comment about their Risky Business love affair
The actor, 63, who has been traveling around Europe with rumored girlfriend Ana de Armas, 37, was an up-and-coming star when he and De Mornay, 65 starred in the bawdy 1983 comedy Risky Business, which launched both their careers.
'I'm really proud of him,' De Mornay, 65, explained in an interview with Page Six while promoting her new film, Saint Claire.
In Risky Business, Cruise starred as a college-bound teen who turns his home into a brothel for a weekend while his parents are away after hooking up with De Mornay's sex worker.
As for their career trajectories, the NCIS actress, who dated the Mission Impossible star for three years, compared him to one of his most famous films.
'He's like, "I am 'Top Gun," and that's what America really wanted and so he's fulfilled it,' she told the outlet.
'He is a brilliant, brilliant interpreter of what the zeitgeist is,' the Jessica Jones star said.
'I'm really, really proud of knowing him from when we were in the suburbs of Chicago [filming Risky Business], and knowing what he wanted and where it is now.'
'We started this together and look what he did with it,' she added.
As for her own career, De Mornay told The Independent in 2024, 'I had no real plan for what to do next. I knew I didn't want to be typecast as 'the sexy woman', but it was all so difficult to navigate.'
She seemed to lose more direction after her mother died three years later. 'I was suddenly kind of orphaned, and everything after that just felt like I was flying by the seat of my pants.'
In Saint Claire, De Mornay plays a former actress and the grandmother of Bella Thorne, a young woman who kills sexual predators.
'It's very rare that I read scripts about a female serial killer who's obsessed with Joan of Arc, which I thought was just brilliant,' she explained to Page Six about why she signed on for the role in the independent film. 'I just wanted to be a support to this project,' she explained.
She went a little further about her admiration for psychological thriller with The Independent. 'It was guerrilla feminist filmmaking! she exclaimed.
The actress is currently starring in the psychological thriller Saint Clare as Bella Thorne's grandmother; Pictured in Burbank, CA in February 2024
'It's experimental. It's hallucinatory. And Clare's not a victim, you know? I love that message, and I love that they chose me to play this archetype of maternal protection.'
When she first read the script a few years ago, De Mornay said she didn't see any parallels between current events, including the current scandal over who might be on the purported Jeffrey Epstein client list.
'I never even thought of that,' she admitted, adding, 'It's freaky that that would come into it…Like, I didn't see that coming when I read it.'

Lauren Sanchez leaves little to the imagination in a sheer backless dress as she enjoys a romantic date night with Jeff Bezos in Saint Tropez
turned heads in a risqué sheer dress as she enjoyed a romantic date night with her husband Jeff Bezos in Saint-Tropez, France on Wednesday. Just weeks after tying the knot in Venice, the newlyweds looked happier than ever as they stepped out for dinner at Cherry restaurant. The billionaire Amazon founder, 61, and Lauren, 55, were every inch the doting new husband and wife on their cosy evening. Lauren went braless and showed off her incredible figure in a backless leopard print number, flashing a black thong beneath. She walked hand-in-hand with husband Jeff, who dressed smart in navy polo shirt and grey trousers. The couple beamed while departing the Italian restaurant, which over looks the ocean. The famous couple said 'I do' in the romantic city of Venice back in June. Their $50million wedding had a star-studded guest list with many A-listers such as Oprah Winfrey, Orlando Bloom, Tom Brady, Kim Kardashian and Leonardo DiCaprio in attendance. Now Lauren wears a $5million diamond wedding ring that has fans as well as jewellers in an uproar. One of their A-list wedding guests recently revealed what their lavish nuptials were really like as they disclosed that none of the Jeff couple's 200 guests were told to sign non-disclosure agreements. Sara Foster, the daughter of David Foster, shared details about the glamorous Venetian wedding on Thursday's episode of her The World's First Podcast. While talking to her sister Erin Foster, she surprisingly revealed: 'No one signed NDAs. No NDAs.' She also said that the ceremony was 'very intimate' when asked to dish on the 'wedding of the century.' 'There's nothing. It's so interesting how the optics were this over-the-top, you know, protestors ... It's just not, it's not what it was. It actually felt very intimate.' The newlyweds shared a sweet moment during dinner as Lauren tenderly placed her head on the billionaire's shoulder She also revealed that there were 'definitely a lot of people that were not photographed' but chose to keep mum on the identities of the low-key attendees. 'I can't. I mean, that's, like, so lame. I'm not gonna do that. But it's very interesting how many people went un-photographed. It was definitely a very interesting setup.' Ellie Goulding performed at their reception, while Usher also sang at their pajama-themed brunch the next day. The happy couple got married in a restored amphitheater on the island, as Sánchez wore a high-neck, long sleeve lace Dolce & Gabbana gown that took over 900 hours of atelier to make, per Vogue. The gown featured a flared skirt, long veil, and a tight-fitting waist, with tons of buttons going up the middle.

Pedro Pascal will not shave for a role unless it's ‘completely necessary'
Pedro Pascal expressed strong dislike for his clean-shaven appearance as villain Maxwell Lord in the 2020 film Wonder Woman 1984. The actor stated he was 'appalled' by his look in the DC Comics movie and has since vowed not to shave his facial hair unless absolutely essential. Pascal's portrayal of Reed Richards with a mustache in the upcoming Fantastic Four film has drawn mild criticism from some superhero purists. Lindy Hemming, costume designer for Wonder Woman 1984, revealed that Pascal's character's look was partly inspired by Donald Trump's 1980s persona. Director Patty Jenkins confirmed Trump was one of several inspirations for the character, emphasizing that the influence was not intended to be political.

Amanda Holden pokes fun at daughter Lexi, 18, sharing a steamy smooch with her boyfriend on family holiday
Amanda Holden poked fun at her daughter Lexi sharing a steamy smooch with her boyfriend on their family holiday in Greece on Wednesday. Lexi, 18, posted the PDA-filled snap on her Instagram of the pair kissing during a luxury boat trip. It sparked Amanda, 54, to repost the loved-up snap on her Stories as she joked: 'Mmm I wonder what daddy will think... [laughing face emoji].' After her playful joke, the mother-of-two later expressed her love for the pair as she commented a heart emoji on Lexi's post. The lovebirds - who went Instagram official in January - rang in the New Year with her mother, father Chris Hughes and younger sister Hollie, 13, in Scotland. Amanda looked nothing short of sensational on Wednesday as she showed off her enviable figure in a yellow string bikini. The TV personality wowed fans as she struck a pose on a luxurious boat during her family holiday. In a snap shared to her Instagram Story, Amanda looked incredible in the skimpy two-piece as she posed by the steering wheel. She shielded her eyes with a pair of gold-framed sunglasses and accessorised with dainty jewellery. Amanda also re-shared a photo of the boat featuring everyone on board, with the caption: 'Captain @noholdenback.' It comes after Amanda revealed her youngest daughter Hollie, 13, has landed her first runway show, walking in London Fashion Week later this year. The radio presenter joked she is the new Kris Jenner as her two lookalike daughters are now following in her showbiz footsteps. Hollie will make her catwalk debut alongside model and university student sister Lexi, 19, who is already signed to Storm Models. When Amanda spoke with MailOnline at Claridge's hotel in London, she revealed that Hollie had 'no idea' that she had bagged her first modelling gig, as the presenter had 'literally only just heard' about it minutes before we sat down. The TV personality has been living it up on a luxurious boat during a family holiday in Greece She said: 'Lexi's good, she's sort of dipped her toe in and she's done a couple of photoshoots. She is loving university as well but what she doesn't like doing is taking time off, so I think she'll work it out but it's something she's enjoying. 'She's doing London Fashion Week again in September and we've actually just heard that Hollie is going to be doing it as well.' Amanda continued: 'It's definitely something I think Hollie is going to enjoy she's going to die when I tell her she's doing London Fashion Week this year. 'I literally just heard she got it and she's gone for the week with my mum in Cornwall so I'll have to ring her after.' She joked: 'With both girls doing it, I do feel like Kris Jenner now. We need our own reality show. Oh my god, yeah here we go, I could see that'. Despite the TV stars hopes of a family reality show, which could follow her daughter's nepo baby friends including Simon Cowell's son Eric and Alesha Dixon's daughter Azura, Amanda's daughter Lexi 'wouldn't want to be on camera'. She revealed: 'But one of my daughters would do [a TV show] but Lexi wouldn't want to be on camera, that's irony, whereas Hollie would, definitely.'
