Samsung's Mixed Reality headset ‘Project Moohan' launching alongside Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Fold 7 [UPDATED]
The original story from June 11, 2025 follows below: At the tail end of last year, Samsung introduced Project Moohan: an MR ( Mixed Reality ) headset that will challenge the Apple Vision Pro. The headset was later spotted at Galaxy Unpacked back in January of this year, but there hasn't been any mention of a release date, until now.Project Moohan will reportedly be launching alongside the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 next month, according to a reliable source. Samsung's new foldables are coming out in early to mid-July, and we might even hear about a Galaxy Z Flip 7 SE.
The headset will be running on Google's Android XR, which is exactly what it sounds like: an Android-based operating system for XR ( Extended Reality ) devices. Google and Samsung showed off Android XR in action last year as well, and it's basically a direct competitor to visionOS. Just like the Vision Pro, headsets running Android XR can be worn in public for various practical applications.
Google Maps providing directions in Android XR. | Image credit — Google The Project Moohan headset, which might end up being called something else, has a myriad of checkboxes to tick to be a competitive offering. For starters, it absolutely has to be an affordable product. The Vision Pro 's $3,499 price tag was a dealbreaker for even the most diehard XR enthusiasts, so Samsung's headset has to cost significantly less.Secondly, it has to have a purpose for existing. Gaming remains the biggest reason that people buy VR headsets today, something that Apple did away with in order to do things its own way. Apple admitted that was a mistake by introducing support for PSVR2 controllers on visionOS 26 at WWDC this month. Samsung not only needs to support today's best VR games, but also provide other practical applications for the headset too.
Lastly, the headset needs to be comfortable. If Project Moohan cannot be worn for more than 30 minutes without getting uncomfortable, it won't see the mass adoption that Samsung hopes for. Hopefully, the company has learnt some lessons from the Vision Pro and will make its headset a lot more pleasant to use.
I think it highly unlikely that Project Moohan will compete with the Meta Quest 3 or Quest 3S when it comes to price. Meta's headsets remain the most practical choice for people just looking to play some VR or MR games. But if Samsung prices it right and markets it better, I definitely see a market emerging for Project Moohan. Especially after there was no news about an Apple Vision Pro 2 at WWDC. Hands-on video could reveal that Samsung has made a surprise decision about the Fold 7 camera
The other day, we showed you hands-on images of the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Today, just a couple of days before Samsung unpacks the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7 , Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, the Galaxy Watch 8, Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, and the Galaxy Watch 8 Ultra, we have a short hands-on video of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 for you to see. The short 19-second clip was posted on X by @UniverseIce. However, there is an issue with the video that has many questioning its legitimacy. Last month, there was a report stating that for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 , Samsung had decided to do away with the Under-Display Camera (UDC) used on the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Instead, because the quality of photos taken with the UDC were not up to snuff, Sammy is expected to bring back the punch hole camera for the internal display. Looking at the video purportedly showing off the Fold 7 's internal display, we don't see that punch hole camera, which means one of the following is true: The previous rumors about the Galaxy Z Fold 7 losing the UDC were wrong. losing the UDC were wrong. The punch hole camera on the internal screen just can't be seen in the video. The device in the video is the Galaxy Z Fold 6 , not the Galaxy Z Fold 7 . Another possibility is that the point of the tweet and the embedded video was lost on everyone. The tweet says, "Goodbye Fold6, hello Fold7." This could have been the well-known leaker's way of saying goodbye to his Galaxy Z Fold 6 . However, if this is the case, why show a video that tests how smoothly the device runs and how quickly apps open? We might not know the answer until Wednesday, when Samsung introduces the latest iteration of its book-style foldable. Goodbye Fold6, hello Fold7. — PhoneArt (@UniverseIce) July 6, 2025 As noted, the video inside the tweet shows how responsive the device starring in the video is. If it is the Galaxy Fold 7 , we expect it to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 application processor (AP), the same chip used to power all Galaxy S25 series handsets. The internal Dynamic AMOLED display is rumored to weigh in at 8.2 inches with a 2160 x 1856 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED cover screen features a 2376 x968 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The phone is said to be equipped with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. The rear-camera array is believed to include a 200 MP primary camera, a 12 MP Telephoto camera, and a 10 MP Telephoto camera. The battery will reportedly have a 4400 mAh capacity. Is the phone in the video a Fold 7 or a Fold 6? We should know all in two days. Secure your connection now at a bargain price! We may earn a commission if you make a purchase Check Out The Offer

Samsung Unpacked July 2025: what to expect
Peter, 07 July 2025 The next Galaxy Unpacked is this Wednesday, July 9. It will be held in Brooklyn, New York and will be livestreamed on Samsung's site and on YouTube. The event is scheduled to start at 14:00 UTC. Foldables and watches incoming Samsung's middle of the year Galaxy Unpacked event is focused on the next generation of foldables, but also brings new smartwatches. This year, we're waiting for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7 and Z Flip7 FE from the foldable family and Galaxy Watch8, Watch8 Classic and Watch8 Ultra from the wearable family. Let's have a closer look at each. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 promises an 'Ultra' experience, though it won't be branded as such. The phone is expected to feature a 200MP main camera (similar to the S25 Ultra and Z Fold Special edition). However, the other cameras will be mostly the same – 10MP telephoto and 12MP ultra-wide. The two selfie cameras will be 10MP on the cover display and a 4MP under-display module inside. Samsung has teased AI features for the camera as AI remains a big part of the Galaxy identity. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 live photos With this generation, the focus is on slimming down the Z Fold – Samsung says it will be the thinnest and lightest horizontal foldable yet. It is yet to officially confirm the dimensions, but rumored info suggests 8.9mm folded and 4.2mm unfolded and 215g. We've heard numbers as low as 3.9mm unfolded, but this might be a question of which part is measured. For comparison, the Z Fold6 is 12.1mm and 5.6mm, weighing 239g, so this is a major redesign. Even the Z Fold Special edition is 10.6mm and 4.9mm. Note that the camera island is not included in these measurements. Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Fold7 side by side However, the slender build comes at a cost – the phone will have the same 4,400mAh battery capacity as its predecessor. The EU energy label has revealed that this would be enough for 40 hours and 28 minutes on a single charge, slightly longer than the S25 Edge. The battery will go at least 2,000 charge cycles before dropping to 80% of its original capacity. That label also showed that the Galaxy Z Fold7 will have an IP48 dust and water resistance rating, which is no longer the top spec for a foldable. It will have excellent drop resistance and average repairability. The chipset is no surprise – we've already seen the foldable run Geekbench with a Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy. We think that it will be equipped with 12GB of RAM and it will have three storage tiers: 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. Leaked prices show that the base model will be around €2,200 and the 512GB option around €2,300 – that's a €200 increase over the previous model. Of course, the pre-order perks will most likely include a free storage upgrade. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 colorways. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 will be available in three colors, Blue Shadow, Silver Shadow and Jet Black, plus several colors that will be exclusive to units sold through Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 and Z Flip7 FE Rising costs are a concern, so Samsung is expected to launch a cheaper flip foldable this year, which will borrow much of its design from last year's Z Flip6. The premium model will be the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7. It will have an edge-to-edge cover display, 4.1', compared to the 'folder'-shaped 3.4' display of its predecessor. It will be thinner too, measuring 13.7mm folded and 6.5mm unfolded with a weight of 188g. For comparison, the 2024 model measured 14.9mm and 6.9mm and weighed 187g. It's not as dramatic a change as with the Z Fold, but it is appreciated. Even better, the Z Flip7 will have a bigger battery – 4,300mAh, which is 300mAh more than the Z Flip6 and the FE. The FE model is likely to have the same dimensions as the Z Flip6. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 and Galaxy Z Flip7 FE The Z Flip7 will be available in Jet Black, Blue Shadow and Coral Red (plus some exclusive colors), while the FE will have a more basic color palette of Black and White. You can see the renders above, which also showcase the difference in cover displays. The two models will also differ in processing power – we think that Samsung will put the brand new Exynos 2500 inside the premium Z Flip7, though a Snapdragon 8 Elite variant may be sold in North America and China. Meanwhile the Z Flip7 FE was benchmarked with the older Exynos 2400. The FE only had 8GB of RAM according to the benchmark results and will be offered with 128GB and 256GB storage. The premium Z Flip7 will have more RAM, 12GB, and storage, 256/512GB. Samsung will introduce the new One UI 8 (based on Android 16) with the new Z foldables. That said, Galaxy S25 units are already doing beta tests. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 carried a price of around €1,400/£1,200 for a 512GB unit, which is €100 more than a 512GB Z Flip6 was last year. As for the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE, it will be KRW 1 million in Korea, which will likely translate to $800/€800/£700. Pre-order and release dates Samsung normally puts new models on pre-order right after the Unpacked event ends and waits two weeks before going into open sales. That means the Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7 and Z Flip7 FE will be available for pre-order from July 9 and will be released on July 25 (the release is traditionally on a Friday). Samsung US is already running an early reservation campaign, which can net you a $50 coupon. We expect that the new watches will follow a similar launch schedule. More on the watches below. Galaxy tri-fold Samsung is expected to showcase a tri-fold smartphone at the Unpacked event this Wednesday, which is said to have a 6.49' cover and 9.96' main displays. However, this may have very limited availability – leaks suggest that it will be sold in only two countries, Korea and China, and only in very limited numbers at that. A prototype tri-fold screen from Samsung The tri-fold model appeared in the One UI 8 code, which indicates that it is a real product rather than just a prototype to show off at the event. Still, most people will likely have to wait until next year if they want a Galaxy tri-foldable. And considering the price hike for the Z Fold7, we think it's best if you don't ask how much this one will cost (not that we know). Samsung Galaxy Watch8, Watch8 Classic and Watch8 Ultra Samsung introduced a 'squircle' design for the original Galaxy Watch Ultra and now the whole Watch8 family is poised to adopt it. Here are renders of the three upcoming models: Galaxy Watch8, Watch8 Classic and Watch8 Ultra. Samsung Galaxy Watch8, Watch8 Classic and Watch8 Ultra As you can see from the renders, the Ultra has a rotating bezel (encircling a 1.5' screen) and a crown too. The vanilla Watch8 only has two buttons on the side. The Ultra model also has a crown, but we don't think that its bezel rotates. There will be no new smartwatch chipset this year, all three models are expected to use the Exynos W1000 from last year. The first two should be available in Bluetooth and 4G variants, while the Ultra is likely to forgo the base Bluetooth variant and be available only with 4G. A new OS version is coming to Samsung's wearables too, One UI 8 Watch. It will focus on health with things like bedtime guidance, vascular load and antioxidant features, plus an advanced running coach. One UI 8 Watch features The Galaxy Watch8 will have a slightly bigger battery compared to its predecessor, a minor 10mAh bump on the 44mm variant. The Watch8 and Watch8 Classic will support 10W charging, which is on par with previous models. By the way, someone was selling a Samsung Galaxy Watch8 Classic prototype on eBay. It was a 46mm LTE model with 64GB storage – that's double what the Watch7 and Watch Ultra have. Stay tuned We will have detailed coverage of the Galaxy Unpacked event, so check back with us for all major developments in the Galaxy world.

Fold 7 and Flip 7 price leak reveals a huge hike for one 2025 foldable
Fold 7 and Flip 7 price leak reveals a huge hike for one 2025 foldable Samsung's Unpacked event will take place on July 9, the day after tomorrow, and we seem to know pretty much everything about the devices that will be announced. Price is still something of an unknown, and if a couple of new reports are to be believed, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be pricier than its predecessor, but the Flip 7 will not go up in price. Foldable phones are already more expensive than conventional phones, and this is one of the reasons why most people continue to stick with conventional handsets. Book-style foldable phones , in particular, are jaw-droppingly expensive. Samsung raised the price of the Fold by $100 last year to $1,899.99, and the Fold 7 is expected to be even more expensive. According to leaker Yogesh Brar, the Fold 7 will get a price jump in India. The price is expected to increase from INR 149,999 (~$1,748.87) to around INR 175,000 to INR 179,000 (~$2,087). Alleged Fold 7, Flip 7, and Flip 7 FE prices in France. | Image Credit - Dealabs The Fold 7 is also likely to be pricier in France, with leaker @billbil_kun revealing that the 256GB and 512GB models will cost €100 more, while the 1TB variant will be €160 more expensive. A Dutch website had previously also said that the Fold 7 would be more expensive than its predecessor, though this was rebuffed by Roland Quandt, who said the price would remain the same, at least in Germany. With most sources indicating prices may rise, this rumor cannot be easily dismissed. After all, the Fold 7 will pack a slew of improvements, including a thinner and lighter body, larger inner and outer screens, and a 200MP main camera. The Flip 6 starts at $1,099.99 in the US, and @billbil_kun claims the Flip 7 will cost the same. That's even though this phone will also be a significant upgrade and will flaunt a thinner profile, larger screens, and a bigger battery. Today's leak has also revealed the Flip 7 FE's price, which will be a stripped-down version of the Flip 7 . This device will start at €999 (~$1,172.12), which will make it €200 (~$234.65) cheaper than the Flip 7 . Given that the Fold 6 struggled in the market, it doesn't sound like a good idea to increase its successor's price. On the other hand, Samsung may think that the hike is justified because of the various improvements. Customers may not necessarily be willing to pay more for the improvements, which many might say were long overdue anyway. On the bright side, the Flip 7 FE will serve as a entry point for customers who have long been eyeing customers but were deterred by high prices.
