Nets' Drew Timme left off both 2025 NBA All-Summer League teams
The NBA announced the first-team and second-team squads for the summer league on Tuesday and unfortunately for Timme and the Nets, the former Gonzaga Bulldog did not make either of the teams. Nique Clifford, Kyle Filipowski, David Jones-Garcia, Jordan Miller, and Terrence Shannon Jr. made up the first team while Ron Holland II, Isaac Jones, Kon Knueppel, Ajay Mitchell, and KJ Simpson composed the second team.
Timme, 24, played in three of Brooklyn's five games during their time in Las Vegas and he averaged 25.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game while shooting 55.4% from the field and 64.7% from the free-throw line. Timme led the Nets in points and rebounds per game while being tied for second on the team in assists per game along with players like guard Nolan Traore and forward Tosan Evbuomwan.
Of all of the players that played in the summer league, Timme was second behind Utah Jazz forward Kyle Filipowski (29.3 points) in points per game and 15th among Vegas participants in rebounds per game. One could surmise that part of what went into the decision for the first and second teams could have come down to what kind of impact each player made for their respective teams.
For example, despite Timme having a solid case for making either of the teams, HoopsHype ranked Timme as the 55th-best player in Las Vegas even with his production in three games. For context, Sacramento Kings forward Isaac Jones was the highest-ranked player in summer league, per HoopsHype, but he made the second-team on the NBA's list.

Knicks sign Mikal Bridges to four-year, $150 million contract extension
Mikal Bridges' future with the Knicks is no longer in question, as the team has signed the veteran guard to a four-year, $150 million contract extension, sources confirmed to SNY. Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, Bridges, OG Anunoby, Josh Hart and Mitchell Robinson are all 30 or under. Brunson, Towns, Bridges, Hart and Anunoby are all under contract through 2026-27. The Bridges extension, which was first reported by ESPN, kicks in next season. If he'd waited to become an unrestricted free agent, Bridges would have been eligible for a deal as long as five years and for much more total money. Brunson took a significant discount by signing an extension last summer. His decision to sign the extension instead of waiting until free agency will help the Knicks avoid onerous penalties in the second apron. Bridges' discount will also, to a much lesser degree. But every dollar counts for teams like the Knicks, who want to contend. By having a team salary under the second apron, the Knicks will have more tools to acquire free agents and the flexibility to make trades that they wouldn't have if they are over the second apron, which is $222 million in 2026-27. According to ESPN's Bobby Marks, the Knicks currently have $18 million in space under the second apron heading into the summer of 2027. The Knicks sent five first-round picks to the Nets last summer to acquire Bridges. So they needed to either extend him or put him in a trade that netted a significant return. Now that Bridges is signed to the extension, he is ineligible to be traded for six months.

Freeman grew four inches before his sophomore year of college and became a star in the MAC. After Akron, Freeman was the 50th overall pick in 2024 and played 22 NBA games as a rookie, averaging 2.1 points in 8.2 minutes per game. Freeman seems like the kind of late bloomer who can legitimately help a contending team. The Timberwolves won't need him to be a high-usage player, of course. But he can do so many different things on the floor that he should find a way to fit in when called upon in the NBA portion of his two-way contract. And he's worked so hard to get to this point.
