Tom Felton Addresses J.K. Rowling Controversy Amid Harry Potter Return
Originally appeared on E! Online Tom Felton isn't tuned into the noise. Just days after the Harry Potter alum announced he'll be returning to the franchise as Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter And The Cursed Child on Broadway, Tom was asked whether some of the controversy around author J.K. Rowling's anti-trans statements affected his decision to return. "No, I can't say it does," Tom told Variety on the red carpet of the Tony Awards June 8. "I'm not really that attuned to it." The 37-year-old—who starred alongside Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint in the films— continued, "The only thing I always remind myself is that I've been lucky enough to travel the world. Here I am in New York. And I have not seen anything bring the world together more than Potter, and she's responsible for that. So, I'm incredibly grateful." In fact, Tom spoke to how the existence of the Broadway production—which follows the unlikely friendship between the sons of Harry and Draco after they both get sorted into Slytherin house—speaks to the longevity of Harry Potter. Is High-Speed Sailing the New Formula 1?
Nearly 10,000 fans gathered this past weekend to watch some of the world's top sailors race past the Statue of Liberty, with the iconic New York City skyline as their backdrop. SailGP, a fast-growing sailing league in its fifth season, held the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix in New York Harbor for crowds seated in stands along the water's edge. The investors and organizers behind SailGP believe that high-speed boats and exciting athletes can bring young fans to a sport that many consider stuffy and inaccessible. The race was the third in the US Rolex SailGP Championship, following events in Los Angeles and San Francisco; in total, the season will include 14 events on five continents, with hopes to expand in coming years. Attendees saw a brutal race through the rain on Saturday, followed by a final round on Sunday. The Spanish team took the top prize, with New Zealand and France ranking in second and third, respectively. Saturday's weather made it 'a super, super tricky day,' said Anna Weis, an American sailor. 'These are the kind of days [where] as sailors you're coming back and just scratching your head and thinking, Wow, this is really hard.' The league hopes that the international audience that has fueled the explosive growth of Formula 1 will find similar thrills on the water, according to Leah Davis, SailGP's chief marketing officer. According to SailGP's chief marketing officer Leah Davis, the league hopes to capture the excitement of the international audience that has driven Formula 1's explosive growth—and deliver that same level of thrill on the water. 'How do we take sailing to a modern, younger, global audience in a format that makes sense to today's sporting landscape?' she asks. 'We've spent so many years really perfecting the product on the water, but now it's all about how do we scale the experience and the fun? We call it après-sail, which is our take on that guest experience.' Last week, Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds became co-owners of the Australian team, while other investors include Anne Hathaway and Issa Rae. DJ Khaled holds a unique role with SailGP as its official Chief Hype Officer. 'Sailing as a sport has always been quite hard to bring to people visibly, to bring close to the spectators,' says Nicole van der Velden, a member of the victorious Spanish team. 'The platform that SailGP has made makes it really attractive for people to watch, [including] people that have never been into sailing. It's really cool to see that it's reaching a bigger public.' Adds Davis: 'Once people see it, it's pretty easy to fall in love within the first few minutes. You can see it's short, sharp flying boats. That's definitely new. We want to be a bit fun…our brand is [about] getting people engaged with a bit of a twinkle in our eye.'

Sean "Diddy" Combs Trial Week 5: Defense Requests Second Mistrial
Originally appeared on E! Online Sean 'Diddy' Combs is back in court. The 19th day of the rap mogul's sex trafficking trial resumed June 9 following his defense team's second request for a mistrial, according to NBC News reporters in the courtroom. Over the weekend, attorney Alexandra Shapiro filed a motion viewed by E! News, in which she argued that his ex Cassie Ventura and her friend Bryana Bongolan of lying about the latter being dangled from a 17th-floor balcony in 2016 by Combs. His defense team—whose first motion was denied by Judge Arun Subramanian May 28—accused the prosecution of 'misconduct' with the 'introduction of perjured testimony.' The prosecution will respond to the motion and the judge is set to respond June 10. As the jury awaits the decision, Combs' ex—who is going by 'Jane' during the trial and was identified as 'Victim-2' in the indictment—has returned to the witness box following an emotional testimony about alleged abuse in their relationship. Online Tony Awards 2025: George Clooney Gives Rare Update on His, Amal's Kids Ella and Alexander Alex Cooper Accuses Her College Soccer Coach of Sexual Harassment Billie Eilish and Nat Wolff Confirm Romance With Steamy Makeout Session 'Jane' said that she felt she had to keep having sex with men for Combs during 'hotel nights'—which were referred to in the indictment and by Ventura and other witnesses as "freak offs"—because she was financially dependent on him. 'My feeling of obligation really started to stem from the fact that my partner was paying my rent,' she told the jury June 6, alleging that if she objected to his sexual requests, 'He would just start saying things like 'If you want to break, that's fine. Do you need, like, three more months in the house? Because I'm not about to be paying for a woman's rent that I'm not even seeing.'' She said that Combs began paying the rent for her home in April 2023, two years into their relationship, and is still doing so after he allegedly proposed a 'love contract' the month before. 'Jane' broke down in tears during her testimony after recalling a 'hotel night' on her birthday, which she specifically requested not to do. 'I just sat there on the couch, got in position to have intercourse, so we could just get it over with,' she told jurors. 'I asked Sean for a condom. Sean was giving me this really bad look. He gave me a dirty look, like shaking his head and said, 'You better not ask for a f--king condom.'' After Combs allegedly handing the escort the condom, she said he was 'so dismissive.' 'He was walking away,' she testified. 'He looked so disappointed while all of this was happening. It made me feel really bad. I just wanted it to be over.'
