Metro expands its TAP-to-Exit program to Union Station in Los Angeles
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced that riders will need to scan valid Metrolink fare to enter and exit the station.
Turnstiles will be latched at both entrances and exits to rail lines at the historic transportation station, Metro said.
Metro ambassadors will be on-site at Union Station assisting riders with their fares. Representatives will also be present to enroll income-qualified riders.
Metro will be offering an "education period" that will be effective until Feb. 25, allowing riders a grace period to become accustomed to the new enforcement. After that date, security and law enforcement officers will begin issuing citations for those who do not follow the rules.
The agency said it's expanding its program to help support its public safety effort.
"Controlling access to the system helps to ensure that people are using the system for their transportation needs and is just one of the ways that Metro is working to improve safety," the agency wrote.
Metro launched the TAP-to-Exit program in May 2024 at the North Hollywood B Line Station. A few months later, the Downtown Santa Monica E Line Station implemented the program.
"In a survey of North Hollywood riders, 90 percent stated that this pilot made the station feel cleaner and 86 percent stated that this pilot made them feel safer," Metro said.

To-Ricos Kway Chap: Is this Michelin Bib Gourmand stall worth your time?
They say curiosity kills the cat, but if curiosity tastes like braised pork offal, I'll gladly take my chances. As an Old Airport Road Food Centre native, I've seen long queues stretching from To-Ricos whenever I pass by. Naturally, I've got to have a taste of this. You should take a look at the dates before your visit, though, as they're also closed on the first and fifteenth of the Chinese calendar. Disclaimer: I'm not a hardcore offal lover. Sure, I'll take a serving of pork liver slices anytime, but the large intestine was unconquered territory till this tasting. Still, there's always a first for everything, so I went to see if this plate of Michelin-recognised kway chap was up my alley! What I tried at To-Ricos Kway Chap To-Ricos caters to both solo diners and large groups with its customisable menu. But if you're like me and aren't sure what to get, try out the platters they've set. Loaded with braised pork belly, large intestine, pork bung, pig stomach, tau pok, tau kwa and half an egg, Platter B (S$8) is bang for your buck. Everything is chopped into even slices and doused liberally with braising liquid. The uncle literally fills the plate to the brim with broth before pouring the excess back into the pot, ensuring that all the meats are warmed by the hot braising liquid. I was expecting the offal to have a chewy, rubbery texture, and was pleasantly surprised by how tender it was. While there was some toughness, a couple of bites reduced it to a soft, pillowy slice that went down easily. Pork bung, also known as the rectum (which is why it's given a somewhat-neutral name like 'bung', I suppose), was what I was most hesitant about. It's like a less fatty slice of pork belly, with the same creaminess that fat offers, while being balanced by the light skin enveloping it. It does have a stronger and gamier taste than belly, but once you get used to it, pork bung is pretty good. The stomach was the best of both worlds: you get the light, slightly chewier texture without the hint of funkiness. Honestly, it's now my favourite cut of pork offal, even better than liver! Jin Ji Teochew Braised Duck & Kway Chap: 2nd-gen hawker modernises 40-year-old stall with jumbo bento sets & duck ramen The pork belly comes with the skin intact, and the gelatinous chew of the fat melts harmoniously into the bite of the meat. Paired with the lighter flavours of the tau kwa, each mouthful was a blend of umami from the meat and aromatics of the braise. Platter A (S$6) comes with braised pork belly, tau pok, tau kwa and half an egg. It features the same punch of flavour from the spices while being a great alternative for less adventurous taste buds. The meat offered in Platter A is leaner than what you get in Platter B. All that braised flavour is sucked into the crevices of the pork from the long hours of simmering. Each bite squeezed out some of the broth, and these slices were incredibly tender. The tau pok tasted exactly as I imagined: spongy and packed with braising juices. But with To-Ricos Kway Chap's chilli? Oh my god. The chilli spread a welcome acidity across my tongue, cutting through the savouriness of the braised meats. The subtle spice comes later, advancing slowly for a gentle kick. I got a bowl of Plain (S$1) to pair with the ingredients. Piping hot kway tiao is topped with a generous ladle of braising broth. These rice noodle sheets were smooth, supple and a delight to slurp down. If your plate of offal cools down quickly, you can dip a slice into the soup to warm it up again. With the lean pork, the silky noodle offers a textural change that helps with the slight dryness of the meat. It's just one of those dishes that pulls the whole meal together. Final thoughts To-Ricos Kway Chap is known as one of Singapore's best kway chap stalls, and for good reason. Its strong seasoning, punchy aromatics and succulent meats make it a solid choice for days when I'm craving flavour. And you know what? I think I like offal now, even the large intestine! I'm glad this stall was my introduction to pig organ cuts — the professionalism of the uncle and the overall taste of the dishes were more than enough to win me over. If you're an offal fan or an adventurous eater, come down for a bite. In my books, To-Ricos Kway Chap is definitely deserving of their Michelin Bib Gourmand spot! Expected damage: S$6 – S$10 per pax 11 must-try hotpot places in Singapore for a shiok meal The post To-Ricos Kway Chap: Is this Michelin Bib Gourmand stall worth your time? appeared first on

Hut-To-Hut Hiking In Norway: Stunning And Authentic
Cabin in a fjord, Lofoten Islands getty Traditionally rooted in simplicity, community, and a deep connection with nature, hut-to-hut travel was recently featured in Forbes as a top-ten active travel trend. More specifically, hut-to-hut hiking in Norway has long been a cherished ritual for Norwegians. Up Norway is reimagining this classic tradition by curating immersive journeys that combine rural cabins with boutique stays, regional cuisine, and cultural encounters, offering an experience both authentic and refined, and more accessible to global travelers. This is a fresh take on the classic Norwegian hut-to-hut hiking experience, connecting travelers with nature, local culture, and themselves. Norway is home to more than 550 'DNT hytter' (cabins managed by the Norwegian Trekking Association), many of which are only reachable by foot, ski, or bike. These range from simple wooden huts in the mountains to family-sized lodges with modern conveniences. You can experience Norway's dramatic landscapes with personalized journeys through areas including Jotunheimen, Aurlandsdalen, the Sunnmøre Alps, Lofoten, and beyond. DNT's new mountain hut Skalatarnet, at the summit of Skala, at sunset, Loen, Norway getty Recently, architects have been blending modern design and eco-friendly materials with nature and the traditions of cabin life. But the real magic lies in the journey between the huts - stillness in alpine meadows, foraging in the wild, swims in glacier-fed lakes, and candlelit bonfire dinners with fellow hikers. These natural elements reflect the Norwegian ethos of "kos," or cozy contentment. Hut-to-hut travel focuses not just on the destination, but on the transformative power of the journey. Experiences are tailored to a traveler's preferences, fitness level, and interest in cultural immersion. In Jotunheimen National Park, you may hike across dramatic ridge lines and deep valleys, spending nights at historic DNT cabins such as Gjendebu (Norway's oldest cabin, dating back to 1871), Memurubu (a scenic spot located on the shores of Lake Gjende), and Gjendesheim (nestled below the Besseggen ridge). Mountain range and lake Gjende in valley, Jotunheimen, Norway getty In the Aurlandsdalen Valley, sometimes referred to as Norway's Grand Canyon, travelers can follow a historic path dating back to the Viking era and beyond, from Finse to Flåm, staying in huts before concluding at the tranquil 29|2 Aurland eco-lodge, a riverside retreat known for its organic kitchen, artisanal interiors, and strong sustainability initiatives. The Sunnmøre Alps offer a striking contrast between wilderness and luxury, where a summit hike to Slogen and overnight at Patchellhytta is paired with a fjord cruise and a stay at the legendary Hotel Union Øye, a historic hideaway housed Norwegian royalty and European nobility since the 19th century. Exterior and garden of the boutique Norwegian fjord Hotel Union Øye getty Adventurous travelers may opt for more demanding trails through Reinheimen and Romsdalen, combining hut-to-hut treks with via ferrata climbs, trail running and summit hikes. You may prefer more accessible itineraries such as in the Hardangerfjord region where travelers can take on iconic hikes such as Trolltunga, a dramatic rock ledge jutting 700 meters above Lake Ringedalsvatnet, or the Queen's Trail (Dronningstien), a scenic cliffside route with panoramic views of the fjord and surrounding orchards. The summer view of Trolltunga (The Troll's tongue) in Odda ( Ringedalsvatnet lake, Norway). getty In the north, the Lofoten Islands and the Arctic Circle Region near the Helgeland coast feature itineraries that mix day hikes, remote cabin stays, fjord kayaking, floating saunas, and storytelling with local guides. You'll often find opportunities to engage with Sámi culture, meet foragers or local farmers, and sample cuisine that reflects the surrounding landscape, such as a two-day hike to Rabothytta in the Helgeland region, known for its dramatic granite peaks, glacial landscape, pristine lakes, and coastal archipelago, followed by a restful culinary farm stay at by the fjord. Routes are crafted not just for adventure, but for reflection, connection, and a deeper appreciation of Norwegian traditions, and the balance of challenge and comfort.
