File motion against PM if you must, but stop making excuses, PH Youth tells Opposition

PETALING JAYA: Angkatan Muda Harapan (AMH) has challenged the Opposition to immediately table a no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister in the Dewan Rakyat. Pakatan Harapan's Youth wing said the Opposition should stop making excuses and putting on an act. "If they do not dare to table the motion, or fail to pass it, they should accept the outcome. "They should then play their role in providing checks and balances constructively and responsibly," it said in a statement on Friday (Aug 8). The movement also expressed full support for the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) presented by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last week. "It is a national roadmap that emphasises value-based economic development, institutional reforms, and fair distribution for all Malaysians. "AMH urges all MPs to debate the 13MP in a mature, professional and fact-based manner, and to put forward constructive criticism and suggestions. "Comparing the plan solely based on its thickness without examining its contents is nothing more than cheap politics that does not benefit the country," it said. AMH also urged Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh to issue an open apology to the entire disabled (OKU) community over his recent remarks, which it considered insensitive and shameful. "AMH strongly condemns his statement insulting the OKU community in his response to critics. "His remarks send the message that anyone who disagrees with his views deserves to be issued an OKU card. "Using the OKU community as material for political jokes is a despicable and highly irresponsible form of discrimination," it said. AMH added that it would travel nationwide to explain the government's reform agenda to the public through a series of tours, forums and dialogues, stressing the need for the government to stay connected to the people. It also pledged to push for the abolition of the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (AUKU) through its AUKU Abolition Committee led by AMH chief Woo Kah Leong, and expressed solidarity with PKR youth deputy chief Nabil Halimi, who was sued for RM1mil by PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari. "AMH is also committed to empowering young people, but hopes that the mechanism for implementing the age limit of 30 for youth will be improved in line with the needs of youth associations. "AMH is concerned about the continuity of youth leadership and hopes that the policy will take into account socio-economic realities, the process of leadership capacity transition, and the inclusive involvement of all stakeholders, especially young people," it said.

Malaysia reiterates firm stance against oppression in Gaza

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reiterated Malaysia's uncompromising stance against oppression and colonialism in Gaza, urging world leaders to uphold humanity and put a stop to atrocities. He said Malaysia's position is very clear — it is against colonisation, oppression, atrocities and genocide, regardless of the country responsible. 'We are appealing to humanity. I mean, this is the proper attitude to preserve it, and I think Malaysia remains very consistent in condemning (the genocide in Gaza). We have appealed publicly. 'I've appealed to all presidents and prime ministers, including United States (US) President Donald Trump, to at least try to stop the killings because he has the influence and people would respect him and record his contribution,' he told reporters after performing Friday prayers here today. Anwar said the atrocities committed by the Israeli regime against the Palestinian people are the worst, as they involve the killing of children and women, as well as the destruction of homes and property. Describing it as a disgraceful failure of humanity, the Prime Minister said the global community is losing the fundamental values needed to uphold humanity. Anwar said negotiations could not take place with a party that had invaded a country and committed violence against its people, adding that Malaysia remains firm in combating Islamophobia through dakwah and the promotion of Islamic values. Malaysia has previously expressed its support for The Hague Group's efforts to find a long-term resolution to the conflict in Gaza, but has taken a cautious stance on the preconditions and content of the New York Declaration currently being debated at the international level. - Bernama

Anwar: Govt backs Quran translations into 30 more languages

PUTRAJAYA: The government will provide full support and cooperation for efforts to translate the Quran into 30 additional foreign languages, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. This was following the launch of the Russian translation of the Quran, the 30th language the holy book is translated into as part of the One Million Quran Copies Project, at Kompleks Nasyrul Quran today, which coincides with the ongoing state visit of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, to Russia. Anwar called the launch of the translation as highly encouraging. "Every country I visit, including Peru, Brazil, Cambodia, Laos, China, and Russia, I never fail to bring along the Quran from Yayasan Restu and its translation, whether to be presented directly to the government or to Islamic centres or mosques," he added during the launch ceremony. Present were Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir; Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan; and Yayasan Restu/Nasyrul Quran advisory board chairman Tan Sri Dr Aseh Che Mat. The One Million Quran Copies Project, which was launched in response to the Quran burning incident in Sweden in 2023, will also be expanded as the ceremony witnessed the signing of strategic partnerships with South Africa and Australia. Since the initiative first began, it has seen the translation, publication and distribution of the Quran into 29 languages including Tagalog, French, English, Hausa, Spanish and Hindi. The event also saw a symbolic flag-off of a special container carrying 20,000 copies of the Quran translated into Latin American Spanish and English, launched by the prime minister to be delivered to the Jannah Institute in California.
