New GTA VI trailer finally drops after Rock Star Games apologises for year-long wait
Players have been given a closer look at the title's new Miami-inspired map and the main characters
It has been a year-long wait, but it's finally here. Rockstar Games has unveiled the second trailer for GTA 6, offering players a closer glimpse at the game's new Miami -inspired map and main characters, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.
The anticipation is over as Rockstar Games released the second trailer for GTA 6 on Tuesday, May 6. Since the release of the first GTA 6 trailer in early December 2023, speculation about when the second trailer might land had reached fever pitch, with some fans even using the in-game moon from GTA 5 to predict its release date.
Rockstar Games was forced to apologise for the delay, citing "extra time to deliver the at the level of quality" fans "expect and deserve" for the hold up, which has rumbled some gaming enthusiasts over the months.
"We are very sorry that this is later than you expected," the video game company said.
"The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team.
"We want to thank you for your support and patience as we work to finish the game."
The second GTA 6 trailer also confirms Rockstar's intention to launch the next chapter in the Grand Theft Auto series, the follow-up to GTA 5, on May 26, 2026, following the publisher's decision to delay the release date.
The theories are sure to continue even after this release, but at least they'll keep players entertained for now.
The latest trailer for the game reintroduces us to Jason and Lucia, the central characters, as we see Jason picking up Lucia from prison before they embark on a wild crime spree across Leonida, involving bank heists and brawls.
The trailer is jam-packed with action and promises to be another epic journey from the developers.
A narrative twist also brings a new romantic dynamic between the lead duo.
"Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them," the trailer's description reads regarding the game's plot.
"But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida.
"They are forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive."
The description added: "Jason wants an easy life, but things just keep getting harder... meeting Lucia could be the best or worst thing to ever happen to him. Jason knows how he'd like it to turn out but right now, it's hard to tell."
X users were quick to make their feelings known about the teaser.
"Spending next summer in Vice City," one wrote.
"Literally the best graphics I've ever seen," another scribed.
"THIS IS ABOUT TO BE THE GREATEST GAME OF ALL TIME," a third raved.
Anticipation for this game has been building for years, and expectations are sky-high. If it fails to deliver, there could be a significant backlash given the extensive build-up by the hype machine for GTA 6 over the past decade.
Whether the new title will meet fan expectations remains to be seen, but many will likely be thrilled just to get their hands on the latest offering from Rockstar, despite the longer wait.
GTA 6 may have taken its time, but it seems its release is finally on the horizon.
