Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu re-elected as TDP president for next two years
NEW DELHI:
Andhra Pradesh chief minister
N Chandrababu Naidu
will continue as the president of the
Telugu Desam Party
(TDP) for the next two years, following his unanimous re-election at the party's annual Mahanadu conclave.
The announcement came on the second day of the three-day event, where senior party leader and TDP Election Committee Chairman Varla Ramaiah declared the result in front of thousands of party workers.
'Nara Chandrababu Naidu has been elected as the national president of TDP for the next two years,' Ramaiah said.
A special election office had been set up to conduct the internal poll. According to Ramaiah, around 600 TDP leaders backed Naidu's nomination, resulting in his unopposed election.
Ramaiah later administered the oath of office to Naidu, marking yet another term in his long leadership of the party. Naidu has been heading the TDP since 1995 and has now completed nearly three decades at the party's helm.
Naidu's re-election comes shortly after he returned to power in Andhra Pradesh in a landslide victory.

Civil service associations deplore Kadapa MLA's behaviour during Independence Day celebrations
KADAPA: A controversy erupted during the 79th Independence Day celebrations held at the Police Parade grounds on Friday, as officials and civil service associations strongly condemned the behaviour of Kadapa TDP MLA Reddappagari Madhavi Reddy towards senior district officials. In a joint statement, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Collectors' Association State president Visweshwara Naidu, and Revenue Services Association district president Chandrasekhar demanded that the District Collector take appropriate action against the MLA for her conduct. According to officials, the Independence Day event was organised smoothly as per protocol with Law and Minority Welfare Minister NMD Farooq attending as the chief guest, alongside the District Collector and Superintendent of Police on the dais. Separate gallery seating was arranged for other public representatives. However, the MLA arrived 90 minutes late to the event without informing officials in advance. Her designated seat in the gallery had briefly been occupied by others, but was vacated, and offered to her.

TDP faults YSRCP leader Jagan for not hoisting tricolour on Independence Day
VIJAYAWADA: The TDP faulted YSRCP president and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for not hoisting the national flag on the occasion of Independence Day. Taking to X on Friday, TDP senior leader and Sarvepalli MLA Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy sought to know why Jagan despite being the president of a political party, and served as the Chief Minister, failed to recognise the significance of Independence Day. 'Of course you (Jagan) may be disappointed with the results of Pulivendula ZPTC byelections. But how can you forget a national festival? This will be a black mark in your political career,' Somireddy said. Another senior leader Ponnur MLA Dhulipalla Narendra Kumar accused Jagan of insulting the national flag, and remained as a party president and former CM, without hoisting the tricolour on Independence Day. He said that Jagan humiliated freedom fighters by not unfurling the national flag. 'The defeat of the YSRCP in Pulivendula ZPTC byelection may be the reason for Jagan's frustration. However, abstaining from hoisting the national flag reflects his mental condition,' Dhulipalla observed. While rickshaw pullers, auto drivers and other marginal workers showcased their patriotism by unfurling the national flag in every nook and corner, marking Independence Day, it is highly objectionable on the part of Jagan, for not hoisting the national flag, the TDP leader remarked. Speaking to mediapersons at the TDP headquarters, Vizianagaram MP Kalisetti Appalanaidu felt that Jagan revealed his arrogance by not participating in the Independence Day celebrations.

The event underscored Latchanna's lifelong commitment to marginalised communities. BC Welfare Minister S Savitha hailed Latchanna's fight for the cause of downtrodden during and after the freedom struggle. She announced that the upcoming Adarana 3.0 scheme will provide mopeds to Goud (toddy-tapper) community members to improve their mobility and livelihoods. She urged the BC community to support Naidu's efforts, and paid floral tributes to Latchanna's statue alongside other dignitaries. She noted that Latchanna's birth anniversary is now a State festival. Savitha highlighted Latchanna's fight against untouchability, and his efforts to protect Harijan and tribal communities through organised yatras. Additionally, the Horticulture Research Centre in Rampachodavaram will develop new palm-based products to boost employment and economic growth of the Goud community, aligning with Naidu's vision. Agriculture Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu shared his family's personal connection with Latchanna, describing him as a towering figure from a poor village near Odisha border. He praised Latchanna's role in the freedom movement, and his mentorship of late parliamentarian Yerram Naidu. He credited Naidu for naming the Thotapalli project after Latchanna in 2018, and empowering BCs with key positions. He criticised the previous YSRCP regime for harassing Latchanna's family, asserting that BCs have consistently supported the TDP.
