99.98% of Andhra farmers get Annadata-PM Kisan aid on first day of launch

VIJAYAWADA: The Annadata Sukhibhava–PM-Kisan scheme, launched by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday at Veerayapalem village in Darsi mandal of Prakasam district, achieved a 99.98% success rate in disbursing financial assistance to 44.75 lakh eligible farmers through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), according to data from the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS).
Director of Agriculture S Dilli Rao said that only 1,067 accounts failed to receive funds. The Chief Minister's Office lauded the Agriculture Department for collecting high-quality farmer data within a short timeframe.
Around 1 lakh farmers were excluded due to the Model Code of Conduct being in effect in certain areas, as per State Election Commission guidelines. Another 1 lakh accounts were withheld due to being inactive or having unmapped NPCI linkages.
A grievance module will be activated from August 3 to allow rejected beneficiaries to raise concerns. Dilli Rao thanked farmers, public representatives, collectors, and officials for their cooperation.

Centre hikes allocation to Andhra Pradesh under PM-SHRI scheme

The allocation to Andhra Pradesh under the PM-Schools for Rising India (PM-SHRI) scheme has seen a notable increase in the financial years 2024–25 and 2025–26 compared to 2023–24, according to a release from the State Education Department. The department cited information received by TDP MPs G.M. Harish Balayogi and Putta Mahesh Kumar, who had raised questions in the Lok Sabha on August 4 regarding the district-wise details of PM-SHRI schools established in Andhra Pradesh and the funds allocated over the past three years. In response, Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary stated that Andhra Pradesh had been sanctioned an outlay of ₹354.85 crore in 2023–24, including a Central share of ₹212.91 crore. The sanctioned outlay rose significantly to ₹782.39 crore in 2024–25, with the Centre contributing ₹469.43 crore. For the current financial year, 2025–26, the outlay stands at ₹555.76 crore, of which ₹333.46 crore is the Central share, as per official information published on the Lok Sabha website. So far, a total of 935 schools in Andhra Pradesh have been selected under the PM-SHRI scheme. The MPs had also sought specific information regarding Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema and Eluru districts. The Centre informed that 37 schools have been selected in Eluru district and 28 in Konaseema. The State Education Department stated that the expansion of the scheme aims to transform existing schools into model institutions equipped with modern infrastructure, smart classrooms, and a focus on outcome-oriented learning.

Govt pushes financial inclusion as banks open 559 mn Jan Dhan accounts

The government is committed to deepening financial inclusion and ensuring that access to basic banking services leads to meaningful participation in the formal financial system, including access to credit, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said in the Lok Sabha on Monday. The launch of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) in August 2014 marked a significant step in banking the unbanked by facilitating the opening of basic savings bank deposit accounts, with associated features, such as RuPay debit cards and an in-built overdraft facility, he said. As of date, over 55.90 crore accounts have been opened under the PMJDY, he said in a written reply. As part of the saturation drive, banks across the country are engaged in a nationwide campaign for deepening financial inclusion (FI) schemes and re-KYC in bank accounts of beneficiaries. The three-month drive, which started on July 1, would end on September 30, 2025. As part of the campaign, banks are holding camps at Gram Panchayat (GP) level in their endeavour to provide these services at the doorstep for re-verification of KYC of existing Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) accounts and other bank accounts, opening of PMJDY accounts for unbanked adults and enrolment under social security schemes, i.e. the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY). The camps are also being utilised to create awareness about unclaimed deposits and to redress grievances. The local administrative machinery is supporting the initiative, and the Department of Financial Services (DFS) and Reserve Bank of India are monitoring the progress closely. Given the magnitude of the coverage to be achieved over the ensuing months, banks have been permitted to use the services of business correspondents in the re-KYC process. Accordingly, BCs are also participating in the camps, along with banks present in the GPs, to facilitate customers in updating their KYC status. During the first month of the nationwide campaign, 1.05 lakh camps have been conducted so far in as many GPs (covering one third of the total GPs in the country), with over 6 lakh PMJDY accounts opened, 7 lakh plus enrolments under PMJJBY, approximately 12 lakh enrolments under PMSBY and 3 lakh enrolments under APY. Re-KYC has been done in 14.22 lakh bank accounts through the camp mode. Customers may kindly make use of these camps. Replying to another question, Chaudhary said the implementation of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and other governance reforms has led to the removal of duplicate and fake beneficiaries, and the plugging of leakages. As a result, he said, the government has been able to better target genuine and deserving beneficiaries. These measures have resulted in estimated savings/benefits amounting to ₹4,31,138.05 crore (up to FY 2023-24), he added. Court junks corruption charges against Shinde Sena MLA over 2024 Maharashtra polls

The Bombay High Court has rejected an election petition filed against Shiv Sena MLA Prakash Rajaram Surve, who was elected from the Magathane Assembly constituency, on the ground that the petition lacked material facts and failed to disclose a valid cause of petition, filed by Udesh Shantaram Patekar of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction), alleged corrupt practices by Surve, including bribery, distribution of pamphlets, violation of the Model Code of Conduct and inducement of voters through the promise of a community hall construction worth Rs 1 rejecting the petition, the bench of Justice Sandeep V Marne said, "Election Petition is not a remedy in common law or an action in equity. Being a statutory remedy, strict compliance with the provisions of the act is mandatory. The allegation of corrupt practice is not only serious but constitutes a punishable offence under the act. Therefore, levelling of allegations of corrupt practice cannot be done in a casual manner." The bench observed that although the petition averred production of four video recordings to support two allegations of corrupt practices, what was actually produced before the court was multiple files in MP4 and JPEG format by copying them into a single Marne said, "This casual approach on the part of the petitioner does not meet the strict requirements of pleadings. The Petitioner cannot dump multiple materials on a copiable electronic device and leave it for the returned candidate to identify the files copied therein. In my view, the election petitioner has failed to make correct and necessary averments relating to the video recordings and has also failed to supply to the returned candidate all the attachments with sufficient material particulars and identity, making the petition liable for rejection."The bench noted that the allegations in the petition were vague and lacked connection to Surve. The petition had failed to specify how the alleged acts materially affected the election result, said the bench. Mere usage of terms like "consent" and "conspiracy" without supporting facts did not meet the legal threshold required to substantiate corrupt practices under Section 123 of the RP act, said the won the November 2024 election with over 1.05 lakh votes, while the petitioner was the runner-up with about 47,000 votes.- EndsMust Watch
