7th Minor Irrigation Census to begin in Dharmapuri in June
Earlier, a training workshop for village administrative officers (VAO) for village panchayats, and local body administration officials of town panchayats and municipalities was chaired by Collector R. Sadheesh.
The Minor irrigation Census proposes to cover irrigation sources that irrigate less than 2,000 ha of land that include water sources on farm lands that sustain agriculture.
The Census enumerates water sources individually or jointly owned by farmers that include farm wells, borewells, the source of funding for creation of those wells; any subsidy grants availed, the extent of land irrigated by the water source, the HP of the motor for pumping of the water will be among the data collated by the enumerators during the census.
The objective is to create a sound and reliable data base on minor irrigation systems including water bodies that will help in the estimation of available ground water and in the formulation of realistic water resource development and management, according to the administration.
The Minor irrigation Statistics scheme is Centrally sponsored scheme under the Ministry of Jal Shakthi.
The 7th Minor Irrigation Census will use 2023-24 as the base year. The district level committee for the minor irrigation statistics will be headed by the District Collector, along with the District Revenue Officer as the nodal officer; Deputy Director of Statistics as the coordinator and Tahsildars as the block level statistics officers and members.

Collector reviews arrangements for NEET exam in Dharmapuri
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) will be conducted in Dharmapuri at two centres, with 245 candidates slated to appear on Sunday (August 3, 2025). The examination will be conducted at Jayam Engineering College, Pennagaram and Srinivasa Engineering College, Paapireddipatty. The examination will be held from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and the administration has made all arrangements to conduct the test in a smooth manner. Earlier, Collector R. Sadheesh reviewing the arrangements on behalf of the administration, said, adequate number of buses were being deployed to cater to the candidates, and buses are instructed to stop at the two examination centres. The administration has also advised candidates to be present ahead of the examination time and also adhere strictly to the NEET guidelines. Mobile phones and bluetooth devices are not allowed into examination centre. Candidates shall be allowed entry into the centre from 7 a.m. and any delayed entry shall forbid the candidate from appearing for the examination.

District-Level Training Begins for Water Bodies Census Using Mobile App: Emphasis on Accurate Data for Policy Planning
Gadwal: Chief Planning Officer Yoganand emphasized that precise and unbiased data is crucial for effective government policy-making. He instructed that every detail in data collection should be recorded impartially and comprehensively to support meaningful developmental initiatives. He made these remarks on Saturday during a district-level training program conducted at the IDOC Video Conference Hall. The session was held in connection with the 7th Minor Irrigation Census and the 2nd Water Bodies Census pertaining to the 2023–2024 agricultural year. Significance of the Census Explained Addressing the gathering, Yoganand elaborated on the importance of enumerating minor irrigation sources and water bodies. He noted that collecting data on underground and surface water resources in villages—including ponds, tanks, farm pits, wells, and other sources—would help develop a holistic perspective on rural water security. He highlighted a key feature of this census: for the first time, the enumeration will be conducted through a mobile app-based, paperless approach, and data will be entered based on the LGD (Local Government Directory) code for each village. Departmental Collaboration The enumeration of farm ponds (buggalu) will be carried out with the assistance of the Groundwater Department, while the medium and major irrigation sources will be covered under the supervision of the Irrigation Department. Technical Training Provided Special training was imparted during the program on: Proper completion of census schedules Technical guidelines Ensuring data accuracy Adherence to timelines District-level officers from the Irrigation Department and the Groundwater Department participated and offered key suggestions to ensure successful execution of the census. Officials expressed confidence that the training sessions would offer clarity to all participants and help in achieving the accurate, high-quality data expected by the government.
