New Commanders WR Deebo Samuel is already impressed with Jayden Daniels.

Washington Commanders general manager Adam Peters had one goal this offseason: Find the missing pieces to get this team to the next level. After a Cinderella season in 2024, the Commanders need to prove that it wasn't a fluke and they are a legitimate threat each and every week, no matter which team they face. Peters has been on a mission to upgrade the offensive line, add weapons for Jayden Daniels to target, and solidify the defense.
Part of that mission included trading with the San Francisco 49ers for veteran wide receiver Deebo Samuel. Samuel's production has been hit or miss the last few seasons, but he has the talent and skill to be a solid option next to Terry McLaurin. Samuel has been with the team for just a short time, but he's already impressed with his new quarterback.
First, Samuel is asked about the culture in Washington, which he says is a 'great culture' and that there's a big brotherhood here. Then came the big question: What has impressed you about Jayden Daniels?
"Just being here for two-to-three months now, I feel like the man can make every throw. He's comfortable, he knows what's going on, he knows where the ball needs to go, I just think he's very smart.
Samuel has received passes from several different quarterbacks, mainly Jimmy Garoppolo and Brock Purdy, but there were several other backups who hit the field on occasion while he was in San Francisco. He's been around the league long enough to understand what makes a good quarterback and how to tell if a guy can get the job done. That he's impressed with Daniels speaks volumes about Daniels' potential in the NFL.
The Commanders' fanbase is nervous, and rightfully so given all it has experienced over the last 30 years, but the aura around the team and the organization is such that Daniels will not have a sophomore slump, and this team will regain the respect it lost due to decades of poor play and mismanagement.

Former Commanders Rival Sounds an Alarm

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. As far as the Washington Commanders faithful are concerned, there may not be a more evil entity than anything connected to the Dallas Cowboys. Former players and coaches make the skin crawl. It's nearly impossible to watch Monday Night Football because one has to listen to Troy Aikman's voice and be irritated by what he is saying. Alternate viewing methods for MNF aren't particularly helpful either. A ManningCast airs on ESPN2, which means innocent Commanders fans must subject themselves to a broadcast manned in part by Eli Manning. More news: Commanders Release Statement on Historic Deal to Relocate to RFK Campus Two-time Commanders rival issues a stern warning It's been a rough go, but the dark clouds seem to be lifting off of this franchise. Washington has qualified for the postseason six times since the Y2K scare but hasn't been able to add a fourth Lombardi Trophy to the display case. Hope has come in the form of Josh Harris, Adam Peters, Dan Quinn, and Jayden Daniels. A phenomenal run last season that unfortunately ended during the NFC Championship Game has the Commanders faithful hoping for more. To Washington's credit, they didn't sit on their hands. They added Laremy Tunsil and Deebo Samuel by way of trades, and a former Commanders rival believes that should send shockwaves through the NFL if it hasn't already. More news: NFL Insider Gives Positive Update on Commanders Star's OTA Absence As stated earlier, there may not be anything more detestable to the Commanders' faithful than former Cowboys. Then again, being a former Cowboy AND Giant might actually be worse. Favor may fall on Isaiah Stanback, however, he recently offered a theory that the DMV may see as being acceptable. He'd win a Super Bowl as part of Big Blue's practice squad before finishing his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars. His recent theory makes a ton of sense. Jayden is accurate and plays well beyond his years, and yes, Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel are sure to provide fireworks as a one-two punch. Zach Ertz still has some gas in the tank. Brian Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler join Daniels in the backfield. More news: Best and Worst Picks for Every NFC East Team in NFL Draft If Daniels continues his upswing and Deebo returns to form after an injury-plagued 2025 NFL season, there's no telling how good the Commanders can be. NFL Insider Gives Positive Update on Commanders Star's OTA Absence

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Often, the word "voluntary" gets lost in the minds of NFL fans when it comes to the OTA season. The Washington Commanders' situation with the star defensive back Marshon Lattimore has given fans a bit of a scare recently, as he remains away from the team at this stage of the offseason. While it's not a rare scenario for seasoned veterans to remain away from their team when attendance isn't mandatory, high-profile absences always tend to suggest that a lack of presence might be financially motivated. Is there a real cause for concern in this case? NFL Insider John Keim doesn't believe it's time to sound any alarms in Commander land. During a recent rundown of all things Commanders on the 'John Keim Report,' Lattimore's absence was acknowledged and discussed. Marshon Lattimore #23 of the Washington Commanders reacts during an NFL football wild card playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium on January 12, 2025 in Tampa, Florida. Marshon Lattimore #23 of the Washington Commanders reacts during an NFL football wild card playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium on January 12, 2025 in Tampa, Florida."I don't think I'm worried just yet about Marshon Lattimore not being here, and I think a little bit too much is being made or worried about that," Keim stated. "I don't think this is about a contract. This is what he did his last couple of years in New Orleans, so I think this is a continuation of what he's done." The Commanders are going through their first offseason experience with Lattimore in the building. Last year, the NFL star was gearing up for another season with the New Orleans Saints at this point of the year. After Lattimore appeared in seven games for the Saints, he was included in a trade to the Commanders, which netted the Saints a 2025 third-round pick, a 2025 fourth-round pick, and a 2025 sixth-round pick. The Commanders also landed a 2025 fifth-round pick, along with Lattimore, last November. Lattimore played in just two regular-season games for the Commanders last year. Once he landed in Washington, he had to recover from a hamstring injury, which sidelined him for four weeks. During Washington's shocking run to the NFC Championship, Lattimore started all three games. He collected 15 tackles and broke up two passes before the Commanders were stopped short by the Philadelphia Eagles before the Super Bowl. Washington has high hopes for its midseason trade acquisition heading into a critical season. The 29-year-old is currently in the midst of a five-year deal he signed with the Saints. The veteran corner wouldn't hit free agency until 2027. So far, there hasn't been any indication that Lattimore is on the hunt for a new deal. June 10 will be a key date to watch, as the Commanders are expected to meet for mandatory minicamp.

Contract details for every 49ers undrafted rookie in 2025

Contract details for every 49ers undrafted rookie in 2025 Following a disappointing 6-11 finish last year, San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan added a slew of new players to their roster this offseason, including 16 veterans that signed in free agency and 11 rookies they took in the 2025 NFL draft. After the seven-round selection meeting ended, San Francisco wasn't done. In fact, they officially signed seven undrafted free agents to their roster, who will compete for a spot on the 53 over the next few months. It will take quite a bit for any of them to beat out a veteran or drafted rookie for a role in Week 1, but it happens on many teams around the league every year, so it's not impossible. With those undrafted rookies now under contract, let's take a look at those first-year deals and see what the terms look like (all terms included in this post have been provided via Spotrac).
