AFC Wimbledon edge out Gillingham on penalties at Priestfield
Home striker Marcus Wyllie was thwarted in the early stages by Wimbledon goalkeeper Joe McDonnell, before the visitors took the lead just after the half hour.
Hackford was played through on goal by Omar Bugiel and the striker produced a clinical finish from just inside the box to beat Gills keeper Jake Turner.
However the League Two team battled back, enjoying a lot of possession in the closing stages.
They equalised in the 83rd minute when Ethan Coleman headed home Max Clark's corner from close range, taking the tie to penalties.
Jonny Williams missed his spot-kick for Gareth Ainsworth's hosts, with Josh Andrews seeing his attempt saved by McDonnell.
Smith stepped up and had his first attempt saved but, following a decision to have it retaken, he made no mistake at the second attempt to put the visitors into the hat for the second round.

Lee Grant ‘proud as punch' as Huddersfield's young guns help to sink Leicester
Hamza Choudhury and Harry Winks' strikes for the Foxes were cancelled out in a contest which finished 2-2 after 90 minutes, before Terriers goalkeeper Lee Nicholls was the hero in a shoot-out which the League One side won 3-2. Grant, whose team will travel to Premier League Sunderland later this month in the second round, said: 'It's wonderful for me to have young players with bright eyes who are ready to go and get after it. I'm proud as punch. 'We're asking the players to trust what's put in front of them and to trust and believe in themselves. 'What they have as principles will give them an opportunity to beat a really good team, even against a really good team.' Leicester boss Marti Cifuentes said: 'The feeling is disappointment because we came here to try to go through and didn't manage it. 'I'm not happy with the performance. Huddersfield did a really good job and congratulations to them, they really showed a lot of energy and desire. 'When you play a team in the division below you, they have a mental edge because they have nothing to lose. 'We started the game poorly and needed to be more aggressive in attack. To go ahead twice and then concede, we should have done better with that. After taking the lead you need to be more dominant than ever.'
