When Vijay Deverakonda, Rashmika's Steamy Kiss In Dear Comrade Kiss Set Screens Ablaze
Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna's Dear Comrade marks six years today. Their chemistry, especially the steamy kiss, made them fan favourites.
Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna's Dear Comrade clocks six years of release today, July 26. The duo became fan favourites with their chemistry in the film, and their steamy kissing scene, especially, often finds its way on the Internet. The electrifying dynamic between Bobby and Lilly (played by Vijay and Rashmika) truly elevated their star status, cementing their place as one of the most iconic on-screen pairs. For the unversed, the stars are rumoured to be dating in real life too.
Vijay's raw, emotionally charged portrayal of Bobby, a fiery student union leader, combined with Rashmika's layered performance as Lilly, a national-level cricketer battling her own demons, gave audiences a love story both intense and fragile. One of the many key highlights from the film is the steamy kiss that takes place between the two stars. While a section of the Internet cheered for them, another trolled them too.
Year later, Rashmika addressed the aftermanths of the Dear Comrade kiss controversy and revealed how affected she was with conversations going on in the Internet. She told Zoom, 'The second it happened, it carried on for months. It was this, that, whatever. And there were so many painful moments happening and painful things I was reading, I was seeing. I have been through that. And I would have constant dreams where you know you feel like you are the only one and everyone has turned their back on you and you are calling out for them. That was a constant dream, I don't know what it was and I don't know how it was. I would wake myself up with such dreams and cry myself to bed, or even wake up crying."
What are some of the key moments from Vijay-Rashmika's Dear Comrade?
Apart from Bobby and Lilly's first scene, the T-shirt scene from the film was loved by fans. When a soaked Bobby wears Lilly's T-shirt and breathes in her scent, followed by her silently curling up next to it, the scene quietly captured the comfort and closeness they shared. Another was Bobby's stunned reaction on seeing Lilly in a saree was simply adorable.
Dear Comrade released on July 26, 2019. The film was directed by Bharat Kamma.

Following his father's footsteps, Santhosh Balaraj took forward the family's cinematic legacy, carving a space for himself in Kannada cinema with a series of impactful performances The Kannada film industry is in mourning following the death of actor Santhosh Balaraj, who passed away on Tuesday morning at the age of 34. Known for his roles in action thrillers like Kariya 2 and Gunpa, Santhosh had reportedly been battling jaundice for several weeks. Despite ongoing medical treatment, his condition worsened and he died at around 9:45 am in a private hospital in Bengaluru. He was admitted to the ICU in his final days. Santhosh Balaraj was widely regarded as one of the rising stars. His sudden death has triggered an outpouring of grief across the industry and among fans, many of whom followed his work closely and believed he was on the cusp of a major breakthrough. He was the son of well-known Kannada filmmaker Anekal Balaraj, who produced the 2003 cult film Kariya, which starred Darshan in the lead role. Anekal Balraj himself had died in a tragic road accident in 2022. Following his father's footsteps, Santhosh took forward the family's cinematic legacy, carving a space for himself in Kannada cinema with a series of impactful performances. His breakout role came in 2015 with the film Gunpa, directed by Prabhu Srinivas. The action thriller was a box office success and cemented his image as a dependable lead actor in the genre. Gunpa drew parallels to Kariya, the very film that brought his father fame, both in tone and treatment, and was seen as a symbolic continuation of the cinematic tradition he inherited. Earlier, in 2012, Santhosh starred in the romantic drama Olvin Ole, alongside Neha Patil. Directed by Teshi Venkatesh, the film showcased a different side of his acting range. In 2013, he appeared in Janam, playing the lead role of Kanteerava, a man in love with Kaveri amid fierce family opposition. The film, directed by Chakravarthy, was praised for its storyline and emotional depth. His final appearance was in Kariya 2, a 2017 action gangster film that carried the weight of his father's legacy and his own stardom. Though he had fewer releases in the years that followed, he remained an admired figure in the younger generation of actors. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Last Updated: Director Rajiv S Ruia announces Malegaon Files, a film on the 2008 Malegaon bomb blasts, backed by producer Sahil Seth. A new film exploring the complex and sensitive events surrounding the 2008 Malegaon bomb blasts has been announced. Titled Malegaon Files, the project will be helmed by director Rajiv S Ruia, known for My Friend Ganesha, and is currently in its pre-production phase. The film is being backed by producer Sahil Seth under the banner of Cinedust 18 Films Pvt. Ltd. While details about the cast and crew are yet to be disclosed, the makers have shared that the film intends to provide a deeply human and investigative portrayal of the events that unfolded before and after the Malegaon blasts. 'This is not just a story about a blast — it's about what followed. The human stories, the political shadow, the search for truth, and the emotional and legal turmoil faced by the accused and the victims' families. Malegaon Files is our attempt to bring that reality to the screen," said Ruia in an official statement. The film will rely on extensive research and real-life material to shape its narrative. According to the makers, the script is being developed using investigative reports, court proceedings, and first-hand testimonies, with a focus on accuracy and sensitivity. Speaking to ANI, Ruia said the team is currently scouting for real locations where the film can be shot. 'Our writer team is in talks. It is a very sensitive subject. Every detail behind it needs to be brought out. Research is going on… 99 per cent we will shoot on real locations. We will do a recce soon," he shared. The project is expected to begin production in late 2025, with additional announcements regarding casting and scheduling likely in the coming months. The 2008 Malegaon blast occurred on September 29, when an explosive device strapped to a motorcycle detonated near a mosque in Bhikku Chowk, resulting in six deaths and injuring 95 others. Initially, 11 individuals were accused in the case. Eventually, charges were framed against seven, including former MP Sadhvi Pragya. In a significant verdict delivered on July 31, 2025, the special NIA court in Mumbai acquitted all seven accused, citing that the prosecution had failed to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt. The case was originally handled by the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad before being transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2011. The trial spanned nearly 17 years, during which hundreds of witnesses were examined. view comments First Published: August 05, 2025, 20:25 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
