Danger to life weather warning as thunderstorms and flooding set to hit England
An amber warning for thunderstorms has been issued for between 4am and 11am spanning major towns and cities including London, Brighton, Portsmouth, Chelmsford, St Albans and Cambridge.
Forecasters have warned of sudden flooding in roads and homes with some more remote communities at risk of being cut off, while delays to train and bus services are also likely.
Power cuts could also occur and buildings are at risk of damage from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail and strong winds.
It is one of several weather warnings for thunderstorms issued across the country.
On Friday, two yellow warnings are in place with one covering much of Yorkshire and the north east of England from 11am to 8pm on Friday. The second will come into place at 9pm until 11:49pm in London and the south east.

The warning states: "Heavy showers and scattered thunderstorms may cause some localised flooding and transport disruption on Monday. "Scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected on Monday. Rainfall amounts will vary from place to place but 20-30 mm is likely within an hour in a few places, with a small chance of 40-50 mm in one or two locations; this most likely across southern Scotland and northern England. Lightning strikes are also likely along with the potential for hail and gusty winds. Foreign Office issues travel warning for Vietnam as tropical storm approaches
Travellers to Vietnam have been warned to 'expect travel disruption' as a tropical storm approaches tourist hotspots on its northern coast. Storm Wipha is forecast to bring heavy rain, strong winds and flooding when it makes landfall on Tuesday. The UK Foreign Office (FCDO) advised in an update on Monday (21 July): 'Storm Wipha is approaching northern Vietnam, with landfall forecast for Tuesday 22 July. Areas including Ha Long Bay, Ha Noi and Ninh Binh are forecast to be affected.' It added that travellers should expect 'heavy rainfall, strong winds, flooding, and mudslides' in affected areas following the storm's landfall. 'You should expect travel disruption and should follow advice from local authorities,' said the FCDO. According to local outlet VN Express, as of 7am on Monday, Wipha was travelling with maximum sustained winds measured at 55mph and gusts of up to 73mph. Airlines including Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, Vietjet Air and regional airline VASCO have cancelled some flights on Monday and Tuesday as Wipha approaches. Vietnam's National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said: 'There are scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially in the Northwest. There is a possibility of tornadoes during thunderstorms.' It added that in the northwest, wind gusts could reach level 10 with rough seas and a wave height up to five metres. The typhoon is expected to weaken into a 'tropical depression over Laos' by Wednesday, reported VN Express. The national disaster risk level is set at Level 3 with Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính issuing an emergency directive for local authorities to prepare for the storm, the outlet added. Wipha is the third tropical storm to affect Vietnam this year. On Sunday, the storm swept southern China with strong winds and heavy rain after crossing the Philippines and Taiwan. At least 35 people died after a tourist boat capsized in Vietnam on Saturday as rescue workers raced to find survivors ahead of the arrival of the tropical storm. The vessel with an estimated 49 people on board capsized in a sudden thunderstorm during a tour of Ha Long Bay, in one of the worst accidents in the popular tourist area in recent years.

Flood awareness event to be held in village
People in South Kesteven will soon get the chance to learn how to reduce the risks of the "devastating impact" of flooding. Experts from the Environment Agency, Anglian Water, and South Kesteven District Council's emergency planning team will be at the meeting next week to answer questions and offer support. Residents will have access to personalised advice and information, along with the opportunity to speak directly with experts about flood protection. Councillor Richard Cleaver said there will be "specific advice on how to be aware of potential flooding, how to prepare your home and what to do if the worst happens". 'Floodpod' A flood victim, who calls herself Flood Mary, will also be at the event to raise awareness of flood risks and discuss about her own experience. There will also be a "FloodPod" which will offer the chance to see, touch and understand how flood defence systems protect homes and businesses. A spokesperson for South Kesteven District Council said the aim of the meeting is to "reduce the devastating impact of floods on individuals, families and businesses". The drop-in event will be held at Billingborough Cricket Club on 28 July from 11:00 BST until 18:00 BST.
