Oklahoma Sooners defensive tackle among Pro Football Focus' top 10
For as much talk as there has been about the Oklahoma Sooners upward trajectory since December, much of the confidence hinges on one thing not changing.
The Sooners may have finished last year 6-7, but the OU defense was one of the best in the country. Those optimistic projections for what the 2025 season may yield are reliant on the defense maintaining, or, at worst, only slightly falling off last year's pace. One of the key players to doing that is defensive lineman Gracen Halton.
Halton was named the 10th-best defensive tackle in FBS by Pro Football Focus this week. He finished with 30 tackles, including six for loss, and five sacks as a junior last year. According to Pro Football Focus, Halton was second on the team in total pressures behind R Mason Thomas with 29. Small for size, Halton brings a different approach to anchoring the Sooners' front line.
"While Halton may not have ideal size at 6-foot-2, 291 pounds, he compensates with elite quickness for the position," the PFF article states. "That explosiveness has helped him earn an 84.2 pass-rush grade on true pass-rush snaps over the past two seasons—the highest mark of anyone on this list. His 13.6% pressure rate since 2023 leads all returning FBS defensive tackles, while his 12.5% pass-rush win rate is the best among returning Power Four interior defenders."
Halton joins fellow senior Demonic Williams and Jayden Jackson to give Oklahoma one of the best three-man rotations at defensive tackle in the country. They're so good; in fact, Ourlads.com's projected depth chart doesn't even list Halton as a starter despite his PFF No. 10 ranking.
Oklahoma ranked 29th in scoring defense and 19th in total defense last year and are hoping for another jump in 2025.

NCAA confirms Connor Stalions disguised, scouted MSU-CMU game in 2023

It is now official, Connor Stalions dressed up as a Central Michigan staffer for a game against Michigan State in 2023. The long believed disguised Stalions on the Chippewas' sidelines during a game against Michigan State was confirmed by the NCAA on Friday. The NCAA revealed their findings and punishment for the Michigan "sign stealing" investigation on Friday, with the note on the Stalions-Chippewas piece being included in the report. According to a post from Chris Vannini of The Athletic, the NCAA confirmed Stalions did attend the Michigan State-Central Michigan game on the Chippewas' sideline. Stalions was there to "in part to decipher Michigan State's signals, but also to help a Central Michigan staff member with play calling." This game between the Spartans and Chippewas took place as the season-opener for the 2023 season. Michigan State beat Central Michigan in the contest by the final score of 31-7. It was always believed that Stalions was in disguise for that game when his picture circulated social media. But now, we have official confirmation of that foul play occurring. Michigan State football is next set to play Central Michigan in 2027. It'll be interesting to see if this investigation will at all change that agreement or if things will simply just go away with this chapter in a weird story now closed. Social media reactions from fans, media following UM 'sign stealing' scandal punishment

Did the time fit the crime? If you check social media today, you'll see many don't think so. Michigan football received its official punishment from the NCAA for its sign-stealing scandal that has been a major story for the last few years. Former Wolverines staffer Connor Stalions led the scheme that the NCAA officially stated on Friday gave Michigan an advantage on the field. The punishment is being perceived by many on social media as a "slap on the wrist" but ultimately seemed like where this story would end up. Officially, Michigan will face four years of probation and over $20-million in fines. Additionally, head coach Sherrone Moore with be suspended a total of three games, of which he was already planning to miss two games through Michigan's self-imposed penalty. Former Wolverines staffers Jim Harbaugh and Stalions received notable show cause penalties as part of the punishment. The full breakdown of the punishment can be seen in a post from Tony Garcia of The Detroit Free Press below: So as expected, there were plenty of reactions on social media from the output of this investigation and punishment. Notre Dame football offers 2029 California jumbo athlete prospect his first scholarship

While we have seen Notre Dame football look ahead in its recruiting efforts, and they often don't look too far ahead, they did on Friday. The Irish offered 2029 California jumbo athlete Inokefotu Fakatou, making it his first Division 1 scholarship. Already standing 6-foot, 3-inches and weighing 215-pounds, Notre Dame is trying to get significantly ahead of the curve in his recruitment. Fakatou's class has yet to even begin his high school career, but clearly showed enough for Notre Dame to pull the trigger on a scholarship offer. It will be very interesting to see his recruitment play out, as there most likely will be at least few years until he makes a decision. He will play his first snaps at the high school level for Orange Lutheran, who is set to begin its season on Aug. 23rd. Fatakou's team will play a very tough schedule, as they are set to face off against powerhouses like Mater Dei, St. John Bosco, and Sierra Canyon. If he's able to make some noise as a freshman against those teams, Notre Dame's recruiting staff will look like geniuses with the early offer.
