J&K Lt Governor administration denies parties permission to visit martyrs graveyard on July 13
'The district administration Srinagar has denied permission to all applicants intending to proceed towards Khawaja Bazar, Nowhatta on July 13 (Sunday),' Srinagar police posted on X, formerly twitter.
Police advised the public to strictly comply with the instructions and refrain from violating the orders issued by district administration.
'Any violation of these orders shall invite strict legal action under relevant provisions of law,' the police warned.
Sources said administration may impose security restrictions in and around the areas surrounding martyrs graveyard at Nowhatta to prevent Kashmiri political leaders from visiting the graveyard and paying homage to July 13, 1931 martyrs.
The ruling National Conference and opposition parties including PDP and Apni Party had sought permission from district administration for visiting the martyrs graveyard.

Ruling NC launches signature campaign for statehood restoration from J&K's Mendhar
SRINAGAR: The ruling National Conference (NC) launched its much-anticipated signature campaign demanding the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, beginning from the border area of Mendhar in Poonch district on Sunday. Senior NC leader and minister Javed Ahmed Rana kicked off the campaign, calling it a 'people-driven movement' aimed at reclaiming the democratic rights, constitutional identity, and dignity lost following the revocation of J&K's special status on 5 August 2019. That decision by the Centre also saw the bifurcation of the erstwhile state into two Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir (with a legislature) and Ladakh (without one). 'Mendhar and Poonch have witnessed immense suffering, especially after Operation Sindoor on May 7. This campaign is rooted in the voices of the common people who have, for too long, awaited the restoration of our statehood. It is about reclaiming what is rightfully ours,' Rana said while launching the drive. He asserted that statehood was not a privilege but a constitutional right, representing the identity, voice, and future of the people. Judiciary is sole independent entity under PM Modi's regime: CPI national secretary K Narayana
VIJAYAWADA: CPI national secretary K Narayana likened the Indian judiciary to the mythological warrior Abhimanyu, asserting that it is the last bastion striving to uphold justice and democracy in the country. Speaking on the current political landscape on Sunday, he expressed alarm over the Centre's alleged control over key institutions, including the President's office, the Election Commission, the CBI, and the Enforcement Directorate. He accused the BJP-led NDA government of undermining the elected State governments, and manipulating democratic institutions. Narayana highlighted the judiciary as the only institution resisting this overreach, emphasising its critical role in safeguarding India's democratic framework. He criticised the Central government and the President for disregarding the judiciary's call to respect the elected State governments. He also pointed to the actions of nominated governors, particularly in Tamil Nadu, where the governor has openly spoken against opposition parties, as evidence of interference in State governance. Narayana claimed that the States without a 'double engine' BJP government face targeted attacks from the Central agencies. Of the five major national institutions—President, Election Commission, Judiciary, NITI Aayog, and CBI—Narayana alleged that four are under the Modi government's control, leaving the judiciary as the sole independent entity. Warning of a potential crisis at the national level, Narayana called for all anti-BJP forces to unite to counter this threat. The CPI is actively discussing the formation of a broad-based 'Anti-BJP Front' at its upcoming National Conference in Chandigarh, starting September 22, to strengthen opposition and protect India's democratic fabric, Narayana said.
