"We talked about restoring the statehood of J-K...," says Apni Party leader Mohammad Rafi Mir
Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 1 (ANI): Apni Party leader Mohammad Rafi Mir on Sunday said that the delegation of the party, during a meeting with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, discussed several pressing issues and reiterated the demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood. Speaking to ANI, Mir said, '..We apprised them about the situation on the ground and had a discussion on various issues...I am hopeful that all our concerns will be also talked about restoring the statehood of J&K...' The delegation also included senior leader Mohammad Dilawar Mir, who raised concerns about the economic impact of sudden weather changes on tourism-related sectors in the region. 'We discussed various issues in the meeting... A survey should be conducted to assess the damage caused by the sudden change in weather... We urged the Lieutenant Governor to provide relief to hoteliers, taxi owners as their businesses have been affected due to tourists not coming to Jammu and Kashmir... We also discussed issues related to our constituencies,' Mohammad Dilawar Mir informed ANI. On April 15, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that he is hopeful that Jammu and Kashmir will 'regain' the status of a state. The restoration of Article 370, the reinstatement of Jammu and Kashmir's statehood, and the implementation of the autonomy resolution were key promises in the National Conference's manifesto for the J-K elections. In August 2019, the Central Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, repealed Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, effectively ending the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcating the state into two Union Territories - Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Pahalgam Attack: Shutdown in J&K today, schools, shops closed in Kashmir - ‘collective act of mourning and resistance'
Pahalgam Attack: Jammu and Kashmir is observing a complete shutdown today, April 23, to express collective grief and protest against the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam. The terror attack, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists, was carried out in Baisaran valley of Pahalgam on Tuesday afternoon. The roads in Srinagar bore a deserted look on Wednesday morning, a day after the attack. This is the first complete shutdown in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. Before 2019, the shutdown calls usually came from separatist outfits. The shutdown, termed Kashmir Bandh and Jammu Bandh, is jointly called by business chambers, trade bodies, transporters, students, and civil society. Mainstream political parties National Conference, Peoples Democratic Party, and Apni Party have also extended support to the call. The ruling National Conference has appealed to the people to make the Bandh a "complete success" and join in condemning the Pahalgam terror attack. In a social media post on X, the party wrote, "On the instruction of the Party President, JKNC joins the collective call for a bandh in strong condemnation of the Pahalgam terror attack. We appeal to the people of J&K to ensure the hartal called by religious and social leaders is a complete success." PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has expressed solidarity with the victims' families and supported the shutdown, calling it an "attack on all of us." "The Chamber and Bar Association Jammu has called for a complete shutdown tomorrow in protest against the horrific militant attack on tourists. I appeal all Kashmiris to unite in solidarity to support this bandh as a mark of respect for the innocent lives lost in the brutal assault in Pahalgam. This isn't just an attack on a select few--it is an attack on all of us. We stand together in grief and outrage & strongly support this shutdown to condemn the massacre of innocents," Mufti posted on X. Jammu-Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has termed the attack an "assault on the very soul of Jammu and Kashmir" and has extended its support to the Bandh. Schools are also closed in Kashmir today. Universities are working but there is no traffic on roads, locals said. Tariq Rashid Ghani, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries Kashmir (CCIK), said the bandh will be a 'collective act of mourning and resistance.' All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to support the shutdown and peacefully protest against the "heinous crime." The incident, which targeted tourists in the Pahalgam area of Anantnag district, sparked widespread outrage across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam and said those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice. Modi cut short his Saudi visit and landed in Delhi on Wednesday afternoon. Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security meeting with all the agencies following the Pahalgam terror attack. Shah is in Kashmir today and may visit Pahalgam too. This isn't just an attack on a select few--it is an attack on all of us.

With Sgr-Jmu highway closed, Bukhari calls for immediate launch of Vande Bharat Express
Srinagar, Apr 21 (UNI) Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari on Monday urged the immediate commencement of the Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express to support the people during the ongoing weather crisis, which has led to the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu Highway — the Valley's only surface link to the rest of the country. Pertinently, the recent heavy rainfall, flash floods, stormy winds, landslides, and shooting stones at various locations — particularly in the Ramban district — have forced the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu road, leaving a large number of people, including tourists, stranded on the highway. In this backdrop, Bukhari urged the government to roll out the Vande Bharat Express to ensure uninterrupted connectivity and continuous tourist flow. 'At a time when the Srinagar-Jammu highway is closed due to weather calamity, and the Valley's surface link with the rest of the country is disrupted, it is highly advisable to start the Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express on an urgent basis,' he wrote on his X handle: He further said, 'Since this high-speed train service, aimed at boosting regional connectivity and tourism, is already set to begin, the government should launch it immediately to ensure connectivity and allow the ongoing tourism season—currently at its peak—to continue without hindrance.' 'The fanfare for the formal inauguration of this special train service can be held at a later date. Thankfully, the Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express is already set to commence, as it was scheduled to be inaugurated by the Hon'ble Prime Minister on April 19, before being postponed. Therefore, starting the service now would be an appropriate step to support the people during this time of crisis,' Bukhari added. Landslides and flash floods triggered by a cloudburst in Jammu's Ramban district claimed three lives and left a trail of destruction on Sunday, reducing homes and stretches of the national highway to piles of rubble.
