Inside Radio 1's Big Weekend before opening in Liverpool
The final preparations for BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend are under way in Liverpool.More than 100,000 music fans are expected to attend the festival, which takes place from Friday to Sunday at Sefton Park, featuring stars including Sam Fender, Mumford & Sons and the Sugababes. There have been complaints from residents about road closures and restricted park access but one local told BBC North West Tonight: "It is brilliant for the city, attracts visitors and it's great for the local people as well - so for me it's a win". Another agreed: "I think it's a positive thing for the city because it brings in tourism."
The festival is the biggest ticketed event ever to be held in the park.Three local schools nearby will close on Friday, except for students sitting their GCSEs.Nearby residents have been warned to expect road closures and public access to some areas being blocked by high fences. One resident who lives near Sefton Park admitted it was "annoying" that he would have to visit another park to walk his dog but still welcomed the Radio 1 event being held in Liverpool, saying "it's good for the city".For Dan Parker, singer for Liverpool-based quartet Keyside, their performance on the BBC Introducing stage "means everything – it's a massive thing to get a chance to play in your hometown".
"Liverpool is one of the capitals of culture, it's a city of music so it's inspired us. It's in everything we do, the way we sing - we keep the Liverpool tone," he added.Liverpool City Council previously defended spending £250,000 to host the event, saying the money had come from its events budget and the festival was great PR for Liverpool.Previous big events, such as Eurovision and the Giants parades, have generated many millions of pounds for the area's economy. About 90% of tickets for the Big Weekend have gone to people living in the region with the red half of the city expected to continue the party when Liverpool FC hold their Premier League title-winning bus parade on Bank Holiday Monday.

Newlyweds Megan McKenna and Oliver Burke look smitten in romantic wedding video as they are joined by family and friends at lavish ceremony
They tied the knot in a romantic ceremony last Saturday after saying 'I do' in front of their loved ones at Grantley Hall in North Yorkshire. And now newlyweds Megan McKenna and Oliver Burke have shared their professional wedding video to Instagram. Sharing a compilation of highlights from the special day Oliver looked emotional as he shed a few tears while waiting for his bride-to-be at the end of the aisle. The former TOWIE star, 32, looked elegant as she donned a bespoke flowing white gown from Maison Peter Langner. Her gown featured a voluminous pleated skirt, a sweeping train, and a structured corset bodice with exposed boning, embellished with hand-embroidered macramé lace roses. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The former TOWIE star, 32, and the footballer, 27, who got married in front of their loved ones at Grantley Hall in North Yorkshire, said 'I do' in a grand ceremony Completing the look was a long cathedral veil, softly draped and adorned with appliqués of three different French Chantilly laces, fading into a delicate degradé effect toward the centre. Meanwhile the Scottish pro footballer, 27, looked incredibly dapper in a black tuxedo as he held his son Landon, who looked adorable in a matching black suit, in his arms. Megan and Oliver gave a glimpse of the lavish venue, which features beautifully landscaped grounds, a suite adorned with a decadent chandelier, and a champagne and cocktail bar. The couple shared a passionate kiss in front of their friends and family after exchanging their vows before they were showered in confetti. For the wedding reception, Megan slipped into a gorgeous white couture gown, complete with elegant sleeves and pearl accessories. The beauty looked on cloud nine as she shared a romantic first dance with her husband. The couple then shared another passionate kiss as they cut their jaw-dropping seven-tier cake in front of their wedding party. No expense was spared for the lavish reception, as the happy couple went all out on decorations, the band, and dancers, partying their way late into the evening. Alongside the sweet clip, Megan wrote: 'Forever & ever and always. 07/06/25 A real life fairytale. @tynegate_films.' The couple, who welcomed their first child Landon in October, had a joint hen and stag do at the end of May. Megan wore a chic white shirt dress, complete with a veil and a bride-to-be sash. Meanwhile, Oliver wore a black T-shirt with a pair of smart white linen trousers to celebrate with friends and family during their holiday. She captioned the post: 'It's nearly time… also my family are to cute, thanks guys I love you.' Megan added: 'Me & Oli came downstairs for the evening to 'chapel of love' playing… video will be posted soon.' In March, Megan teased details about the couple's nuptials, as she went for a fitting for multiple wedding dresses after spending three weeks apart from Oliver. Oli got down on one knee after enjoying a romantic boat trip in Montenegro back in June 2023, after a whirlwind five-month romance. And Megan gushed it was 'so exciting' that the pair were getting closer to being husband and wife, as she explained she had to be remeasured for her wedding dresses after shedding several pounds. Captioning the post, she said: 'Hadn't seen Oli in 3 weeks, this is how our day went… don't worry guys Oli hasn't seen my wedding dresses. 'They are in Italy atm being made! Eeek. I had to pop in to get my measurements taken again as my baby weight is dropping off me!!!! Not long now ♥️'. In September, Megan left the UK and moved to Germany to be with her footballer fiancé Olly, deciding to give birth over there. The Scotsman plays as a right winger or forward for the German football team, Bundesliga club Werder Bremen. In a previous Instagram video, Megan announced: 'Guess what! I'm moving to Germany. I know I did some stories yesterday about packing. 'And I think I few of you thought I was going into labour but no let's hope I don't go into labour because I am now giving birth in Germany. 'I know a few of you guys have been like 'Where's Olly?' Olly is in Germany and all our stuff has been in storage for a couple of months. 'A bit crazy that I'm moving countries. I'm actually excited, like it's obviously going to be a big change.' Megan revealed that they had to 'move hospitals very last minute' and it was 'crazy' and 'all a bit of a rush'. The original plan was for Olly to fly back in time for her due date. However, Megan was worried that her partner would miss the birth of their baby.
