The album cover, designed by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot, features Swift floating underwater with the title displayed in an orange, glittery font. 'My day ends in a bathtub, not usually in a bedazzled dress… I wanted to glamorize all the aspects of how the tour felt,' she said on the podcast. 'I wanted to have an offstage moment as the main album cover because the album isn't really about what happened onstage, but what happened offstage.'
She also unveiled the track list; it includes a collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter on the title track, which closes the album.
'This album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour, which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant. It just comes from like the most infectiously joyful, wild, dramatic place I was in in my life,' she said on the New Heights podcast. 'And so that effervescence has come through on this record. And like, as you said, bangers.'
Swift explained that the goal of the album was 'melodies that were so infectious that you're almost angry at it' and also lyrics that 'are as vivid, crisp, focused, and completely intentional.'
The LP includes 12 tracks, including songs titled 'Actually Romantic,' 'Father Figure,' 'Elizabeth Taylor,' 'Cancelled!,' and 'Honey.' Swift also confirmed that only 12 songs would be dropping unlike her last album, which had two parts.
'With Tortured Poets Department, I was like, 'Here's a data dump of everything I thought and felt in two or three years. Here's 31 songs.' This is 12. There's not a 13th, there's not other ones coming,' Swift said on the podcast. 'This is the record I've been wanting to make for a very long time … Every single song is on this album for hundreds of reasons, you know, and you couldn't take one out, and it'd be the same album. You couldn't add one. It's just right.'
She added: 'I tend to love to write lots and lots of music, so it's a temptation to release lots of music, but oftentimes, like I wanted to do an album that was so focused on quality and on the theme and everything fitting together like a perfect puzzle, that these 12 songs for my 12th album, I feel like we achieved that, and I'm really happy about that.'
Swift announced the album title in a teaser for the New Heights podcast, hosted by her boyfriend Travis Kelce and his brother Jason. In the clip, Swift sits next to her boyfriend and podcast host Travis Kelce as she opens up a mint green case with her initials on it in orange lettering. 'I wanted to show you something … This is my brand new album, The Life of a Showgirl.'
In the previously posted clip, the album cover was blurred out.
On Monday night, a countdown appeared on her website, with the ticker scheduled to expire Tuesday at 12:12 a.m. ET. When the time reached, the site temporarily crashed before unveiling an orange glitter vinyl variant of the record, a cassette, and a CD version of the LP.
The Life of a Showgirl is the 12th studio album from Swift, who last released an album in 2024, The Tortured Poets Department.
Earlier this year, Swift purchased the master recordings for her first six albums and gained control of her music catalog. 'All of the music I've ever made now belongs to me,' the singer wrote in a letter on her website. The news came as she rereleased Taylor's Version albums of Fearless, Red, Speak Now, and 1989.

SUPERMAN Concept Art and Photos Reveal First Look At Kal-El's Suit Without The Divisive Red Trunks — GeekTyrant

We have our first look at what Superman might have looked like without one of his most recognizable wardrobe choices. Newly revealed concept art gives fans a glimpse of an alternate version of the suit designed for Superman, one that skips the red trunks entirely. Graphic and surface designer Maybelle Pineda shared the behind-the-scenes concept on social media, offering a peek at an early take on the Man of Steel's costume. And yes, the red trunks were nowhere to be seen. Without them, the design feels oddly incomplete, almost like something you'd find on a knock-off toy version of the character. There's a strange nakedness to it, even if everything else about the design remains the same. There was a serious debate behind the scenes about whether or not the red trunks should make a return in the DCU. It echoes the earlier decision made by Zack Snyder to ditch the trunks in his interpretation with Henry Cavill, a move that sparked plenty of controversy back in the day. Initially, Superman director James Gunn was leaning in the same direction. "We were trying on all these different versions, and we screened tested with trunks and no trunks," Gunn explained to io9 during an on-set interview last year. "And one of the things David said is that Superman wants kids to not be afraid of him. 'He's an alien. He's got these incredible powers. He shoots beams out of his eyes… He's this incredibly powerful, could be considered scary, individual and he wants people to like him. He wants to be a symbol of hope and positivity. So he dresses like a professional wrestler. He dresses in a way that makes people unafraid of him, that shows that hope that shows that positivity. And that really clicked in for me. 'And I think trying to pretend that Superman's costume doesn't have some frivolity to it at its base, trying to make it look serious, is silly because he is a superhero. He's the first one, brightly colored and that's who he is." It turns out we have David Corenswet to thank for standing up for the red trunks. His argument wasn't just about tradition, it was about what Superman represents to the world. That visual cue, however campy it may seem to some, carries weight. It's about tone and symbolism. Corenswet pushed for the classic look, and thankfully, he got through to Gunn. So while this trunk-less concept may never see the light of day on screen, it's an interesting glimpse into the creative process behind one of the most iconic superheroes of all time. And it shows just how close we came to another red-trunkless Superman in the DC Universe.
