Qatar: QIC Group posts first-quarter net profit of $56.31mln

Zawya30-04-2025
Qatar - Qatar Insurance Group has posted a net profit of QR205mn for the first quarter of 2025, up from QR194mn in Q1, 2024.
The results were approved during the Board of Directors meeting presided over by QIC Group Chairman Sheikh Hamad bin Faisal bin Thani Jassim al-Thani here Tuesday.
Sheikh Hamad stated, 'QIC's Q1, 2025 results continue to reflect our consistent and stable bottom line focused growth with net profits of QR205mn at a 6% overall growth. While our direct Mena gross written premiums continued to grow at 17% quarter-on-quarter, our disciplined risk selection and exit from low‑margin international portfolios have strengthened our capital base and underpinned selective growth.
'As market conditions normalise, we are fully committed to accelerating our digital transformation and expanding customer-centric innovations to sustain our leadership position across the region.'
Sheikh Hamad added: 'Strategic investments in automation and data-driven decision-making have enhanced our operational efficiency and turnaround times. With the launch of our ESG framework and the establishment of our Sustainability Committee, we are embedding environmental and social responsibility into every aspect of our business.
'In 2025, we are focused on deepening market penetration, advancing digital leadership, and upholding the highest standards of governance. As part of our regional growth strategy, we are moving forward with plans to enter the Saudi market—subject to regulatory approvals—marking a significant step in expanding our footprint across the GCC.'
Group Chief Executive Officer Salem Khalaf al-Mannai said, 'Q1, 2025 results are once again the testament of QIC Group's successful execution of its set strategy to build up a well-diversified and balanced risk portfolio focused in short tail risks, which will deliver consistent and stable bottom-line driven growth. Operational excellence remains at the core of our strategy.
'In Q1, 2025, we delivered insurance service results of QR76mn, net investment and other income of QR229mn and consolidated net profit of QR205mn. The consolidated net profit attributable to shareholders of the parent stood at QR201mn. These results demonstrate robust momentum across our core business lines.'
While the global and regional markets were highly volatile and challenging, QIC Group has delivered a net profit of QR215mn with a 11% growth in bottom line for the period (before the impact of Pillar II, which is effective from 2025).
'As the global insurance rates continue to soften and decline, we continue to maintain our growth momentum and our Gross written premium growth as per plan, generated through our direct regional operations and international operations through Antares Lloyds Syndicate, London.'
Al-Mannai stated: 'Our relentless focus on process optimisation and automation is yielding tangible gains in cost efficiency and service speed. Enhancements to the QIC App, including seamless car rentals, repair services, car wash bookings, and real-time vehicle valuations, further cement our reputation as Qatar's most innovative insurer. Supported by a strong capital position and a Board-approved ESG framework, we are driving consistent, profitable growth while delivering exceptional customer experiences.'
The regional gross written premiums increased to QR1.7bn in Q1, 2025 up 17% quarter on quarter – and now account for more than half (59%), of the group's total premiums, compared to less than 20% in 2021.
While there is currently a great deal of uncertainty and confusion surrounding tariffs and trade tensions amongst leading global economies that has impacted the global financial markets like a storm cloud, QIC continued to report stable investment and other income of QR229mn for Q1, 2025, compared to QR245mn for the same period in 2024. The return on investment came in at 5%, compared to 5.3% last year.
QIC Group maintained a stable, well-diversified investment portfolio, aligned with its long-term strategic asset allocation.

Saudi Arabia Authorises VistaJet as First International Private Jet Operator for Domestic Flights

Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has authorised Dubai-based VistaJet to operate domestic private jet services in the kingdom, marking the first time an international operator has been granted such rights. The move follows the lifting of cabotage restrictions for on-demand charter companies on May 1, allowing foreign-registered aircraft to conduct domestic flights within Saudi borders. GACA said the approval supports its Vision 2030 plan to transform the kingdom into a global aviation hub, while boosting competition, improving service quality, and attracting new investments. VistaJet, part of Vista Global Holding founded by Swiss billionaire Thomas Flohr, has been serving Saudi Arabia for more than 15 years on international routes. The company reported a 32% year-on-year rise in programme members in the kingdom during the first half of 2025. 'Given the nature of Vista's fully owned floating fleet, the company is best positioned to offer immediate private aviation services throughout the kingdom,' VistaJet said in a statement. With its long-range Global 7500 and soon-to-arrive Global 8000 jets, clients will also be able to fly non-stop to destinations worldwide directly from Saudi Arabia. The kingdom aims to grow the general aviation sector's contribution to GDP to 7.8 billion riyals ($2.08 billion) and create 35,000 jobs by 2030. Last year, Saudi Arabia's business jet sector recorded a 24% jump in flight volumes, underscoring strong demand from wealthy tourists, corporate travelers, and government officials.

Saudi Arabia's June crude exports fall to lowest since March

Saudi Arabia's crude oil exports slipped in June to their lowest level in three months, according to data from the Joint Organizations Data Initiative (JODI) released on Wednesday. Crude exports from the world's largest oil exporter fell to 6.141 million barrels per day, from 6.191 million bpd in May. Saudi Arabia's crude output for June was 9.752 million bpd, up from 9.184 million bpd in May. Saudi refineries' crude throughput was 2.703 million bpd, down 18,000 bpd from May's 2.721 million bpd, the data showed, while direct crude burning increased by 185,000 bpd to 674,000 bpd. Saudi Arabia and other members of OPEC provide monthly export figures to JODI, which publishes them on its website. OPEC+, comprising OPEC and allies such as Russia, this month agreed to raise oil production by 547,000 bpd for September, the latest in a series of accelerated output hikes to regain market share, as concerns mount over potential supply disruptions linked to Russia. Eight OPEC+ members began raising output in April with a hike of 138,000 bpd, followed by larger-than-planned increases of 411,000 bpd in May, June and July, 548,000 bpd in August and now 547,000 bpd for September. The eight members are Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, UAE, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman. The International Energy Agency said last week that world oil supply would rise more rapidly than expected this year and next as OPEC+ members further increase output and supply from outside the group grows. Bahrain: Concession deal signed to boost energy strategy

Bahrain - His Majesty's representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Bapco Energies chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa witnessed the signing of a strategic energy concession agreement between the Oil and Environment Ministry and Bapco Energies – the integrated energy group leading the transformation of Bahrain's energy sector – with EOG Resources Bahrain Awali, a subsidiary of US company EOG Resources specialised in crude oil and natural gas exploration. The signing ceremony was attended by Oil and Environment Minister and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs Dr Mohammed Bin Daina; Bapco Energies Group CEO Mark Thomas; a delegation from EOG Resources led by Joseph Korenek, EOG Resources International president; and a number of officials from both sides. Shaikh Nasser affirmed that the signing of this agreement represents an important step in implementing the National Energy Strategy, noting that its provisions will combine Bapco Energies' national vision with the global expertise of EOG Resources, paving the way for new opportunities in oil and gas exploration, contributing to comprehensive national development, and supporting long-term energy security. The agreement builds on the partnership announced in January this year, following high-level meetings between Shaikh Nasser and EOG Resources, with the co-operation focusing on evaluating opportunities for oil and gas exploration and development in Bahrain. EOG chairman and chief executive Ezra Y Yacob expressed his pleasure at the opportunity to assess Bahrain's resource potential, stressing that the company looks forward to working with Bapco Energies to enhance the productive capacity of the sector. The partnership underscores Bapco Energies' role in fostering strategic alliances that enable the development of Bahrain's natural resources.
