Ministry of Industry and Trade: No Concerns Over Barley Shortage, Stock is Safe - Jordan News

Ministry of Industry and Trade: No Concerns Over Barley Shortage, Stock is Safe The spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply, Yanal Al-Barmawi, confirmed that the Kingdom's barley stock is sufficient, as the ministry holds quantities that exceed the safe period and cover needs for up to 8 months. These stocks are continuously replenished through regular tenders to purchase additional quantities according to clear mechanisms. اضافة اعلان In a statement to the Jordan News Agency (Petra) on Wednesday, Al-Barmawi stated that there is no shortage of barley at all. He explained that the observations made by some livestock breeders, especially those with sheep holdings, were due to the increased demand for barley this period, attributed to low rainfall and the weak grazing season. He added that it is usual for every farmer to receive their allocated subsidized feed (barley and bran) in installments throughout the month from the designated feed centers. However, the current demand is for the entire allocation to be provided at once. Al-Barmawi emphasized the ministry's commitment to ensuring that every farmer with sheep holdings receives their subsidized feed allocation and that the distribution mechanism ensures the availability of both barley and bran for all farmers. He explained that providing the entire allocation at once prevents the supply from being available to others at the same time. To expedite and improve the process, Al-Barmawi mentioned that efforts are underway to automate the distribution procedures for subsidized feed, allowing farmers to request the quantities they need within their allocation and receive them from the designated feed center. This new system will provide the ministry with daily data on the required barley quantities and the corresponding bran, which will be secured through the feed centers as per the farmer's request. He pointed out that once the new system is completed, farmers will be able to collect their subsidized feed from any of the 51 feed centers, unlike the current system, which restricts them to a single center. Al-Barmawi noted that the monthly quantities distributed to sheep breeders range between 80,000 and 85,000 tons of barley and between 18,000 and 20,000 tons of bran. These quantities fluctuate depending on wheat milling operations. For example, during Ramadan, the quantities decrease due to reduced bread consumption and lower wheat milling.

UAE Steady Amid Market Swings

As we've come to expect from markets in 2025, another 24 hours of news headlines roiled markets. According to Josh Gilbert, Market Analyst at eToro, initially, there was optimism following Trump's 'very good' call with China's Xi Jinping, which revived hopes of trade negotiations progressing. However, the market quickly changed its focus to the Trump/Musk spat that unfolded via social media, sending Tesla shares tumbling 13% overnight. This will provide a hit to overall market sentiment, particularly tech, but may not be something long-lasting other than for Tesla. They've already had a pretty terrible start to the year, surrendering their EV crown to BYD and losing market share globally, so this political punch is only going to put downside pressure on Tesla shares. The EV slowdown hit hard, but being in the political firing line adds a new layer of risk for Tesla the noise, global equities remain elevated after a strong run since April. But that momentum faces a test. Tariff tensions and political risk continue to cloud the outlook, and for the rally to continue, investors will need clarity on trade and policy, both of which remain elusive for the UAE, local markets have held firm near multi-year highs, supported by strong earnings and President Trump's recent visit, helping to bolster regional confidence. This alongside a pipeline of exciting IPOs and solid macro backdrop is drawing sustained foreign investment. The performance from DFM and ADX this year, outperforming the S&P500 only solidifies the UAE's position as a growing global financial hub that investors shouldn't ignore. With so much uncertainty in markets, we continue to see a compelling case for keeping long-term exposure to gold. Over the long term, we believe gold remains a strategic asset: a core holding amid accelerating de-globalization, and a transition asset during a period marked by policy uncertainty. It offers stability against risk events while providing a reliable longer-term store of value and, importantly, as a portfolio diversifier. Even in the age of digital assets and AI, a bit of that classic yellow metal can provide balance and reassurance.

However, they noted that the current sea freight route is inefficient due to its length and called for the development of faster, more reliable transport links.

Ministry of Agriculture Announces Indicative Prices for Eid Al-Adha Sacrificial Animals - Jordan News

The Ministry of Agriculture has announced the opening of imports for live sacrificial animals from Syria, as part of efforts to boost supply in local markets and stabilize prices ahead of Eid Al-Adha. اضافة اعلان According to the ministry's spokesperson, Lawrence Al-Majali, in a radio statement, importing live Syrian kids (young goats) has been approved and they are now available in local markets as an option for Eid sacrifices. He added that importing live sheep from Syria is currently limited to the military institution only, noting that this decision is part of the ministry's policy to diversify sources of sacrificial animals and reduce pressure on domestic production. Al-Majali highlighted that most sacrificial animals in Jordan are of local origin, in addition to imported animals from countries such as Romania, Australia, and Spain. He emphasized that importing from Syria helps balance supply and demand during the Eid season and enhances citizens' ability to purchase sacrifices at reasonable prices. Sacrificial Animal Prices Al-Majali noted that the livestock market in Jordan is witnessing an unprecedented abundance this year, with about 580,000 heads of local and imported sheep available, while the market demand is estimated at only 250,000 to 300,000 heads. He also shared indicative prices for sacrifices: The average price for a medium-sized imported sacrifice ranges between 200 to 225 Jordanian Dinars. The local sacrifice ranges between 220 to 260 Dinars, depending on supply, demand, and availability. He clarified that these prices are indicative, not fixed, and based on market conditions. Prices usually start to drop after the afternoon of the first day of Eid and continue to decline during the following Tashreeq days. Al-Majali urged citizens to shop around and compare prices before buying, noting that there are over 400 livestock sale points in Amman alone, in addition to other sites across the kingdom.
