Karan Johar REACTS To Dharmendra And Shabana Azmi's Kiss Scene In Rocky Aur Rani: 'One Day…'
Karan Johar reflects on Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani two years after release, ranking it alongside his classics and teasing a possible spin-off. It's been two years since Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani hit cinemas, but the film is still sparking conversations – and not just for its chart-topping songs or Ranveer-Alia chemistry. As the anniversary rolled around, Karan Johar reflected on the rom-com's place in his career, the buzz around its veteran love story, and the emotional memories tied to his earlier directorial hits. In a chat with The Times of India, the filmmaker looked back at the 2023 box office hit, which marked his return to the director's chair after a long seven-year break. The film, packed with vibrant family drama, culture clashes, and a surprising moment between two screen legends, clearly holds a special place in his heart. Asked whether Rocky Aur Rani sits alongside his most beloved works, Karan didn't hold back. 'It is right up there with My Name Is Khan and, of course, my first directorial Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which remains special as it brought a smile to my father's (the eminent producer Yash Johar) face," he said. 'Our production house was suffering huge deficits when I made Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. It brought huge financial respite to my dad." While the film was led by Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt's lively pairing – he played a loud, full-hearted Punjabi; she was the sharp Bengali journalist – it was another duo that caught the internet's eye. A kiss shared by Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi on screen stirred reactions across social media, becoming one of the most talked-about scenes in the film. Reacting to the unexpected chatter, Karan said, 'There is a separate love story there. I may one day make a film on their love story in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani." Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani follows the love story of Rocky, a loud and fun-loving Punjabi guy, and Rani, a smart and confident Bengali journalist. Though they come from very different backgrounds, they fall in love. Before getting married, they decide to switch homes and spend time living with each other's families to understand their cultures better. This leads to lots of drama, funny moments, and emotional ups and downs, as both families struggle with their differences. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. "Fabricated": Delhi Cops Reject Mamata Banerjee's Assault Claim On Bengalis
New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Monday called a video shared by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on social media, alleging that a Bengali-speaking woman and her child were assaulted in the national capital for speaking their language, "fabricated" and "politically motivated." Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Abhishek Dhania on Monday said that the police took immediate cognizance of the video shared on platform 'X' by the West Bengal Chief Minister, where she claimed that the woman and her child were brutally assaulted by Delhi Police personnel. Atrocious!! Terrible!! See how Delhi police brutally beat up a kid and his mother, members of a migrant family from Malda's Chanchal. See how even a child is not spared from the cruelty of violence in the regime of linguistic terror unleashed by BJP in the country against the… — Mamata Banerjee (@MamataOfficial) July 27, 2025 "Upon inquiry, we identified the woman as Sanjanu Parveen. During questioning, she alleged that on the night of July 26, four men in plain clothes posing as police personnel took her and her child to a secluded spot and demanded Rs 25,000, which she claimed to have paid," DCP Dhania said. However, the DCP said that a detailed investigation, including analysis of CCTV footage and local intelligence, revealed inconsistencies in her story. "During sustained questioning, the woman admitted that her relative, a political worker from Malda district in West Bengal, had asked her to make the video. The video was then circulated locally in Bengal and later surfaced on social media," the officer said. Terming the video "baseless and fabricated", SCP Dhania added that the footage was deliberately created to defame the Delhi Police. "This appears to be a deliberate attempt to malign the image of Delhi Police through a politically motivated narrative. The matter is still under investigation," he said.
