Kauai firefighters rescue South Carolina visitor from Kalalau Trail
Kauai firefighters on Friday afternoon rescued a visitor from the Kalalau Trail after receiving a call for a hiker in distress.
The Kauai Fire Department officials said they responded to the call shortly after 2 :30 p.m.
KFD personnel in the department's Air 1 helicopter found the distressed hiker, a 67-year-old visitor from South Carolina, on the trail near Hanakoa camp.
He was airlifted to Princeville Airport and care was transferred to the Hanalei Fire Station, KFD said. No information on the man's condition was released.

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Kauai firefighters carried out two separate rescues on Sunday, aiding stranded hikers at Kalalau Beach and along the Waipoo Falls Trail in Kōke'e State Park. Gloomy Monday ahead The first call came in just after 9:15 a.m., when a man at remote Kalalau Beach reported severe stomach issues and was unable to hike out. Rescue crews responded and airlifted the man to the Waimea Ballpark landing zone. He was transferred to medics for further care by 10:30 in the day, around 5:45 p.m., crews were dispatched to the Waipoo Falls Trail to assist a 44-year-old visitor from California who injured her ankle while hiking. Due to weather conditions, Air 1 had to land nearby, and firefighters hiked in to reach her. She was carried out using a rescue seat and flown to a landing zone before being handed off to medical personnel. An acclaimed pastry chef was killed by a boulder during a picturesque hike on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, officials said. Gianna Buzzetta, a 26-year-old from California, was hit by a falling boulder on March 23 as she was exploring the Makaleha Falls in Kauai with her boyfriend, Connor Quinton, the Kauai Fire Department said.
