9 Underrated French Pharmacy Finds, According to a Beauty Editor

Cosmopolitan7 hours ago
When I went to Paris for the first time as a beauty editor, I had a long list of French pharmacy recommendations from my colleagues. But I was mildly frustrated. The products everyone talks about are now basically all available to purchase in America. I want exclusive! I want chic! I want something no one has if I'm traveling across an ocean to buy it! I have access to a bajillion skincare products as an editor—so why would I care about what's available in France if I can still get it shipped to me via Amazon?
But as I've returned to Paris and spent plenty of time perusing pharmacies—that's simply what you do á Paris—I've curated a list of true finds. Like, the ones that no one really talks about, but should be. You can't even buy them online (with the exclusion of one, but it was found in the aisles of a Parisian pharmacy originally, so it counts, and I make the rules). If you're making your own list before heading to Paris, keep scrolling for my top picks, all reviewed and vetted by a beauty editor.

Without USAID, Conservation and Tourism Projects Have Ground to a Halt

It was incredibly frustrating for Mogollón and Gomez, then, when the promised funding suddenly vanished, leaving local participants in their programs with a deep sense of betrayal. 'It took some time and some effort to convince them that ecotourism could be a very good source of income,' says Gomez. 'And suddenly they lose the funds and it's like, well you deceived me. You said something that wasn't true.' One of the local groups that both Amazon Alive and Destination Nature were working with, the folks that were being paid to protect the pink dolphins, has been left high and dry. 'So far they don't have any other support,' Gomez says. 'It's very likely that if they don't have the money to complete the process of implementing sustainable tourism in the land, they will go back to some other activities, such as logging. And you cannot say they will never go back to planting coca trees.' 'They were having a chance to do something different to improve their quality of life,' Gomez adds. 'And all those efforts were completely canceled from one day to the other.' Conservationists are seeing similar patterns play out in national parks and wildlife refuges throughout developing nations in Africa and Asia, where USAID grants were being used to combat poaching, train and employ rangers, maintain roads, and protect critically endangered species with slow reproductive rates (e.g. the Sumatran rhinos, of which fewer than 50 remain). Groups like the International Fund for Animal Welfare were also using USAID money to invest in conservation that 'attracts travelers to places that they might not have otherwise gone,' like Malawi and Zambia, says Azzedine Downes, the CEO of IFAW. This would help communities who are home to these endangered species develop ongoing sources of revenue—and a clear public demand—for their protection.
