Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Swati Mujumdar, Principal Director, SCDL, said, 'It is heart-warming to see so many alumni and corporate professionals together. SCDL's journey—from starting with the Armed Forces to now reaching over 1 million learners across 36 countries—has been truly inspiring. SCDL originated in 1995 from Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies. General Allu Walia suggested to our Founder and Chancellor, Dr. S. B. Mujumdar, that some courses should be launched for defense personnel who could not come to Pune to study. This vision led to SCDL's inception. By 2001, civilians and their children began enrolling. After I returned from the USA in 2003, I took charge of SCDL, when the institute had very few students and minimal technology use. Between 2003–04, we introduced e-learning, computerized programs, online and on-demand exams, which enabled us to reach learners across India."
She added, 'Symbiosis was started by a teacher. When an educational institute is founded by a businessman versus a teacher, there is a huge difference. Today, Symbiosis alumni are present not just across India, but globally."
The Silver Jubilee Spirit
The celebration embodied SCDL's philosophy of 'Education for All". Whether it was a young professional exploring AI, a homemaker upskilling for remote work, or a retired soldier re-entering civilian life—each story reflected SCDL's inclusive vision.

White House says Russia wants to meet Donald Trump amid talks to end Ukraine war
The White House on Wednesday said that Russia asked for a meeting between Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, and that the Republican was open to such an arrangement. US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed the possibility of a meeting with Vladimir Putin in a call.(AP) The statement comes after reports suggested that Trump could meet his Russian counterpart and Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky as soon as next week in a renewed bid to end the war between Moscow and Kyiv. "The Russians expressed their desire to meet with President Trump, and the president is open to meeting with both President Putin and President Zelensky," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters. AFP reported, citing a senior Ukrainian source, that Trump and Zelensky discussed the possibility in a call that also included NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and the leaders of Britain, Germany, and Finland. The call came after Washington's envoy Steve Witkoff visited Moscow for talks with Putin earlier in the day. Donald Trump's meeting with Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky may happen next week According to media reports, Donald Trump's meeting with Vladimir Putin may happen as soon as next week. The New York Times reported that Trump intended to meet first with Putin and then follow that meeting with a three-way summit that would also involve Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. NATO and Ukrainian officials are yet to confirm the report. Earlier on Wednesday, Trump hailed the meeting between his envoy Steve Witkoff and Putin as "highly productive," but US officials said sanctions would still be imposed on Moscow's trading partners, including India, by Friday. The Republican had earlier on Wednesday announced an additional 25 percent tariff on India for buying Russian oil. The total tariff on Indian goods imported to the US now stands at 50 percent. Trump, who had boasted he could end the conflict within 24 hours of taking office, has given Russia until Friday to make progress towards peace or face new sanctions.

In numbers: Trump doubles tariffs, targets India over Russian oil trade
US President Trump will double tariffs on India to 50% this month, punishing New Delhi for buying Russian oil, citing its continued imports of Moscow's IT MATTERS This sharp escalation comes on top of a previous 25% tariff set to take effect overnight, effectively doubling the trade penalty. The move follows failed US–Russia talks over the Ukraine war and deepening tensions between Washington and New Delhi. India's energy ties with Moscow — and its role in the Brics bloc — are now at the centre of a growing geopolitical NUMBERS25% — Additional tariff rate imposed by Trump on Indian goods.21 days — Time until the new duties take effect.25% — Existing country-specific tariff already scheduled to start overnight. IN DEPTHThe measure stacks on top of the existing 25% tariffs already set to take effect, doubling the penalty for affected Indian exports. The order frames India's Russian oil trade as part of an "unusual and extraordinary threat" to US national security, putting New Delhi in the crosshairs of Washington's Russia sanctions policy. It also signals to other countries that buying Russian crude could bring similar US trade retaliation. Signed on August 6, the executive order uses emergency powers under US law. It expands earlier measures that banned Russian oil imports and targeted Moscow's hostile actions says India is "directly or indirectly" importing Russian Oil, either buying it outright or through intermediaries. In the White House's view, those purchases help fund Russia's war in Ukraine and prolong the conflict. BIG PICTUREThis is the most aggressive trade move against India since Trump's first term. This move is the sharpest escalation in US–India trade tensions in years. In 2019, Trump stripped India of special tariff-free treatment under the Generalised System of Preferences. Now, the White House is framing India's energy policy as a direct challenge to US foreign policy on Russia. WHAT THEY SAID"They're fuelling the war machine. And if they're going to do that, then I'm not going to be happy." — Donald Trump, US President- Ends

"Have To Act Accordingly": Shashi Tharoor Slams US For Additional 25% Tariffs
New Delhi: Slamming the United States for "double standard" for imposing an additional 25% tariff on India for buying Russian oil, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday said US President Donald Trump's move will make "our goods unaffordable to a lot of people in America." He pointed out that while China imports various materials, including more Russian oil than India, the country has received a "90-day break" from the US tariffs. "Uranium, Palladium, there are various things they (US) are importing from Russia. There is, unfortunately, a certain double standard involved. They have given the Chinese a 90-day break, but the Chinese are importing far more Russian oil than we are. So clearly this has not been a particularly friendly gesture from a country we thought was well disposed towards us, an administration that we thought was well disposed," Mr Tharoor told reporters. Suggesting that tariffs also might signal how the friendly relations between India and the US have been affected, the Congress leader mentioned the possibility of "pressures within India" for imposing reciprocal tariffs on American exports to India. "Very clearly, we have to act accordingly, and we will have to learn our lessons from this experience. I think there is certainly a likelihood that there will be some pressure within India now to impose comparable reciprocal tariffs on American exports to India. So I think we're going to have to really start looking at other trading partners much more in these circumstances," Mr Tharoor mentioned. "I don't think that's particularly good news for us and that takes our total tariffs to 50 per cent then that's going to make our goods unaffordable to a lot of people in America and in particularly when you're looking at these percentages you have to compare them with the tariffs being levied on some of our competitors," Mr Tharoor told ANI. Comparing the tariffs on other countries like Pakistan (19 pc), Bangladesh (20 pc), Philippines (19 pc), Indonesia (19), or even Vietnam (20 pc), the Congress leader said that this will effect Indian goods being bought in US, as people will look for the cheapest option. "This means we need to very seriously diversify to other countries and other markets that may be interested in what we have to offer. We now have an FTA with the UK. We are talking to the EU. There are many countries in which hopefully we would be able to, but in the short term, it is definitely a blow," Mr Tharoor told ANI. US President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order on August 6 imposing an additional 25 per cent tariff on imports from India. Trump cited matters of national security and foreign policy concerns, as well as other relevant trade laws, for the increase, claiming that India's imports of Russian oil, directly or indirectly, pose an "unusual and extraordinary threat" to the United States. Terming the United States' move to impose additional tariffs on India over its oil imports from Russia as "unfair, unjustified and unreasonable," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) declared that New Delhi will take "all actions necessary to protect its national interests. "In an official statement, the MEA said, "The United States has in recent days targeted India's oil imports from Russia. We have already made clear our position on these issues, including the fact that our imports are based on market factors and done with the overall objective of ensuring the energy security of 1.4 billion people of India." "It is therefore extremely unfortunate that the US should choose to impose additional tariffs on India for actions that several other countries are also taking in their own national interest," the statement added.
