Let's make one thing clear right away: there is currently no such thing as Yellowstone season 6, nor will there be a season 6 release date here. The blockbuster series concluded in December 2024 with the 14th episode of its fifth and final season.
However, the story of the Dutton family and its surviving members will live on. Through various spinoffs, at least one of which remains untitled, fans will get an upcoming prequel series and additional franchise entries, complete with brand-new characters and high-profile cast members.
Here's everything we know so far.

Is There a Yellowstone Season 6?
The modern Western series Yellowstone garnered a massive following over its five-season run. Behind the scenes, however, creator Taylor Sheridan and star Kevin Costner waged a battle more epic than one of the show's fictional storylines. As a direct result (SPOILER ALERT), rancher John Dutton (played by Costner) was killed off in Season 5, making it the final season.
Hence, there is no Yellowstone season 6, and there probably never will be. But one shouldn't take that to mean the adventures of Beth Dutton and the other main characters won't continue. Rather than develop an official Yellowstone season 6, Sheridan has instead created a variety of spin-offs. Some will follow the Duttons while others will introduce new characters and storylines.

Yellowstone New Season Potential Casting & Plot
While there's no indication that Yellowstone will continue as a mothership series, its assorted spinoffs may collectively or respectively constitute a new season. So the question is: where did the story leave off? And for anyone who hasn't yet watched season 5, there are more SPOILERS AHEAD.
Well, John Dutton is dead and buried, for one, and his ranch has been sold off to the Broken Rock tribe by his son, Kayce (Luke Grimes). John's daughter, Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly), killed her adopted brother, Jamie (Wes Bentley), and then moved to a small ranch in the town of Dillon. There, she plans to start a new life with her husband, Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), and with the young boy she's taken under her wing, Carter (Finn Little).
Regarding the upcoming spinoffs, we have an idea of where the story goes from here for Kayce Dutton, who was given back a piece of the ranch by the Broken Rock tribe. In the new series Y: Marshals, Kayce joins an elite unit of the U.S. Marshals and takes on dangerous domestic crimes. The future of Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler remains less clear.

What's Next for Yellowstone?
Here's where things get downright muddy, so bear with us. In the fall of 2023, it was announced that the Yellowstone franchise was developing a sequel series under the working title 2024, with Matthew McConaughey attached.
It was then reported that McConaughey dropped out, and that Kurt Russell was cast in either the same role or in a different role for the same series. Additional rumours suggested that existing characters such as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler would make guest appearances.
In the time since, Kurt Russell has likewise left the Yellowstone universe (for now), and the series in which he was attached to star has become The Madison. Starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Patrick J. Adams, it will follow a New York City family to central Montana.
Meanwhile, characters Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler are slated to appear in their own untitled spin-off, which will arguably be the closest one can get to Yellowstone season 6. There's no release date as of yet, and it's not even clear whether the series has started filming.
In addition to The Madison, Y: Marshals, and the untitled Yellowstone spinoff, we're getting 1944, a prequel series that follows in the vein of 1883 and 1923 by exploring the Dutton family history. There's also 6666, a long-awaited spinoff set on Taylor Sheridan's enormous Texas ranch. And to think you just came here looking for the Yellowstone season 6 release date!

Here's a brief rundown of all the upcoming franchise instalments.
The Madison (Release Date: 2026)
This is the series that was supposed to star Kurt Russell, who's since left the project. Michelle Pfeiffer plays Stacy Clyburn, a wealthy New Yorker whose husband and brother-in-law are killed in a plane crash. Looking for a fresh start, she and her family move to the heart of Montana.
Y: Marshals (Release Date: 2026)
This upcoming series will continue the adventures of Yellowstone character Kayce Dutton. A former NAVY SEAL and modern cowboy, Dutton joins an elite unit of the U.S. Marshals. While protecting the region against violent threats, he struggles to balance his personal and professional life. It will air on CBS as part of the network's midseason lineup.
6666
Taylor Sheridan spent a fortune on the real-life Four Sixes Ranch in Texas, and what better way to recoup some of the cost than this long-gestating drama series? The sprawling property previously appeared in Yellowstone but now takes centre stage for an exploration of man vs nature. There's a chance that characters Jimmy (Jefferson White) and Emily (Kathryn Kelly) – who met on the ranch in Yellowstone season 4 – will appear, but nothing has been confirmed. Details are scarce, and so are release dates.
1944
Fans adore the Yellowstone prequels 1883 and 1923, which respectively chronicle the history of the Dutton family and their Montana ranch. The historical action will continue with this brand-new prequel series set in 1944. There's no information about the cast or plot available just yet, but many suspect that the series will incorporate WWII and maybe even follow characters into battle.
Untitled Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler Spinoff Series
Just before Yellowstone concluded, it was announced that characters Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler would get their own spinoff series. Previous reports called it Dutton Ranch, but that name has since been disputed, and the series remains untitled. What we do know is that it will take place in the present day and centre around the married couple. If you're looking for Yellowstone season 6, this is presumably as close as you can get. That said, we don't have specific plot details to share at this time.
The Yellowstone Phenomenon
Yellowstone debuted in 2018 and steadily gained viewership over five seasons. Between the mothership series and its assorted prequels, the franchise has become nothing short of a cultural phenomenon. We primarily have compelling characters, lavish production values, historically rich settings, and gripping storylines to thank, though the series also offers an escape from the standard progressive fare (that said, dubbing the show 'political' tends to oversimplify its intentions).
Behind the scenes, creator Taylor Sheridan has reportedly butted heads with former star Kevin Costner and Paramount Network alike, but that hasn't stopped millions of viewers from tuning in to Yellowstone and its assorted spinoffs. Other Sheridan creations such as Landman and Tulsa King have likewise garnered high ratings and loyal followings.
Where Can I Watch Yellowstone?
Yellowstone is produced by Paramount Network, but due to a licensing deal with NBCUniversal Peacock, the series isn't available to stream on Paramount+. Instead, episodes are available for streaming to subscribers on Peacock and Philo in the US, and premium subscribers on Hulu and fuboTV. One can also rent episodes or entire seasons on platforms like Prime Video and YouTube.
To make matters slightly more confusing (a recurring theme, as you'll notice), Paramount+ does have the streaming rights to the prequels 1883 and 1923. Paramount Global also owns CBS, which will air Y: Marshals, meaning the spinoff series will likely stream on Paramount+. So too will the upcoming prequel series 1944, as it's being produced directly by Paramount+.
Here in Australia, though, you can watch all five seasons of Yellowstone on Stan, both spin-offs 1883 and 1923 on Amazon Prime via a Paramount+ subscription.

How to Watch the Yellowstone Franchise in Order
The Yellowstone universe is expanding across space and time alike, with 6666 heading to Texas while 1944 journeys back to WWII. As you gear up for all these reported sequels and prequels, why not take the ultimate history course in the meantime? Here's how to watch the current Yellowstone franchise in order.
1883 – This limited series follows the early Dutton family out of Texas as they look for a better life in Montana.

Christina Haack 'won't rush into marriage with Christopher Larocca'
Christina Haack is "not wanting to rush into anything" with Christopher Larocca. The 42-year-old TV star finalised her divorce from Josh Hall earlier this year, and according to Heather Rae El Moussa, she isn't looking to rush anything with her boyfriend. Asked about the possibility of them tying the knot, Heather told E! News: "If so, it will be some time. She's not wanting to rush into anything." Despite this, Heather insists that she's a big fan of their romance, describing Christina and Christopher as a "cute" couple. The model said: "They're just really cute together. They've been together for quite a while, and I've really enjoyed every time I've spent time with him. "It's the first guy she's been together with that I've really liked." In June, meanwhile, Christina admitted that her divorce settlement was "not great". The TV star split from Josh, her third husband, in 2024, and the former couple confirmed in May they had agreed the terms of their split after undergoing mediation. Speaking on SiriusXM's Jeff Lewis Live, she said: "I signed something. There's like a process after the process. It was resolved in mediation after I think 12 hours. "I heard a saying once, like, if you both think you're screwed, then whatever you want. I don't know how it goes. "Look, it's not great, but I guess it's done." The HGTV star praised her legal team for handling her separation when news of the agreement was announced. Her representative told People magazine: "Christina is pleased to confirm that a settlement has been reached through mediation. She extends her sincere appreciation to her attorney, Laura Wasser, and her team for their professional guidance and support throughout the process." Christina echoed the praise on her Instagram account. She wrote: "You are all a true class act. I loved watching you in action and how you handle everything and everyone with class and grace. I appreciate you all beyond words. I have learned so much under your guidance. "And I'm grateful to have this behind me. I can't wait to move on with my life and focus on what's ahead and all my blessings."

Mark Ferguson boycotts Logies after nomination snub
Seven newsreader Mark Ferguson is said to be steaming that his longtime understudy Michael Usher has been nominated by bosses for a Logie Award. According to network sources, Ferguson feels slighted Usher has been nominated over the prime time news anchor for a Logie in a new category, the Ray Martin Award for Most Popular News or Public Affairs Presenter. The award will be presented for the first time on Sunday night and sees Usher, Seven's only nominee in the category, pitted against Nine's Ally Langdon, Tara Brown and Peter Overton and the ABC's Sarah Ferguson and David Speers. The nomination comes after Usher was tapped to appear on the current series of Seven's reality program Dancing With The Stars where he has emerged as a fan-favourite and, remarkably, a finals contender. On Thursday insiders told that as a result of the simmering rivalry between the two veteran newsreaders, Ferguson had declined an invitation to attend the upcoming 65th Logie Awards which are set to screen on Seven. The snub comes a week after Seven's commercial rival Nine claimed the news ratings in the Sydney market for 2025, a market Seven has not won since Ferguson was appointed anchor of its 6pm news bulletin in January 2014. Nine also claimed the first half of the ratings year nationally in five capital cities. Ferguson's tenure has long been debated internally at Seven as the network's year-on-year losses to Nine in the news hour have mounted up. As far back as 2016 Seven's longtime director of news Craig McPherson publicly championed Ferguson, telling media outlets the Tamworth reporter with the film-star good looks could have the job 'for as long as he wanted it'. However McPherson would come under increasing pressure from engaged Seven proprietor Kerry Stokes to introduce changes to the nightly news bulletin. In September 2024, following McPherson's departure in April that year, Stokes persuaded Macpherson's acquiescent replacement Anthony De Ceglie to welcome a joint-anchor, Angela Cox, to the desk. The decision is said to have bruised Ferguson. According to sources the relationship between the two newsreaders has not been an easy one and now Stokes is once again agitating for change. Sources are adamant the Seven chairman wants to see Usher, who now enjoys a national profile courtesy of his Dancing with the Stars turn, appointed to the plum role. Seven of Foxtel's eight Real Housewives of Sydney (RHOS) are understood to be shattered at being informed just one member of the program's cast will be going to this year's Logie Awards. Fashion-obsessed program stars Krissy Marsh, Nicole Gazal-O'Neil, Terry Biviano, Caroline Gaultier, Dr. Kate Adams, Victoria Montano, Martine Chippendale and Sally Obermeder had spent months contemplating their couture options for television's glamorous night of nights when a brief missive from an executive, the head of unscripted/development at RHOS co-production partner Matchbox, arrived in their inboxes. In the letter, the executive begins by softening the women up with a note of congratulations. 'Congratulations to each of you on the Logies nomination for RHOS,' she wrote. 'It's a show we are very proud of and we are grateful for all your hard work that helped make it such a great series.' Then came the bitter pill. 'We have one ticket only available for a RHOS cast member … I know this will be disappointing news for many of you..' the email continued. Rather than conduct a ballot or a random draw to determine who the golden ticket would go to, the producers announced they'd drawn a line under the lobbying begun months earlier and made the decision about a Logies representative themselves. The ticket would go to the most anodyne of the group. The woman least likely to cause offence. The woman least likely to get ugly-drunk or hurl abuse should the trophy go to another in Best Structured Reality Program category, a category which sees RHOS in contention with Farmer Wants a Wife, Gogglebox Australia, Married At First Sight, Muster Dogs and Shark Tank. The woman least likely to jump Hamish Blake on the red carpet or try to souvenir a Logie or a kelpie pup. In short, it would go to the most unlikely and least intriguing Housewife of them all. It would go to.... Sally Obermeder. Victoria Montana spoke for her castmates when she took to social media this week to blast the decision to give two tickets to TV producers: 'I was under no misconceptions about the fact that production would prioritise themselves over the stars of the show. The ladies, who for almost no pay at all, open their lives to the public so that production can make money from our lives.' Hamish schmoozes the room following ratings crash Broadcaster and networker par excellence Hamish Macdonald looks confident of having a big bright future at the ABC despite shedding 16 per cent market share in the latest radio ratings survey. Macdonald's sustained ratings nosedive on ABC Sydney was confirmed last week six-months after he replaced Sarah Macdonald at the microphone in January. Given his losses were greater than any of his stablemates in the latest radio survey, there was a sense that Macdonald, renowned for moving on fast from media gigs, might prove a no-show at last weekend's Andrew Olle Media Lecture, held on Friday July 25, just three days after his latest ratings capitulation was exposed. However it was an exuberant Macdonald who turned out for the Olle Lecture at the W (Hotel) Sydney, the ABC-hosted event perhaps too tasty a networking opportunity for Macdonald, who recently lost his lucrative sideline gig on Ten's cancelled The Project, to miss. With a gig on ABC local radio and a second on the ABC's Radio National where he presents a program called Global Roaming on his CV, Macdonald has no lack of options at the ABC. It allows him to choose the company he keeps. And so it was with interest that our sources noted Macdonald's decision not to sit his colleagues from the struggling local radio division but instead with the stars and bosses of the national broadcaster's more prestigious counterpart, Radio National. He looked at home, this column hears, sitting with the presenter of this year's Olle lecture Geraldine Doogue, a friend, and the controversial ABC executive who recruited Macdonald to local radio, Ben Latimer, the ABC's head of audio content who played a role in Antoinette Lattouf's unfair dismissal case. Meanwhile Macdonald's ABC Sydney colleagues including breakfast host Craig Reucassel, drive presenter Chris Bath, retired drive host Richard Glover (Bath and Glover joined by spouses Jim Wilson and Debra Oswald), and a cast of execs and producers including the beloved Peter Wall sat at one of a series of tables earmarked for the local radio team. Also eager to be associated with the high profile oration was ABC chairman Kim Williams and ABC managing director Hugh 'I've been rumoured to be linked to many women' Marks, the former Nine CEO who has said he was unaware Nine had a culture problem when he was running that shop. On his arm at the Olle Lecture was the woman he romanced while playing culture captain at Nine, his former Nine subordinate Alexi Baker. Hegarty spied at Nine 60 Minutes' reporter Adam Hegarty appears to have been welcomed back into the fold following a long interstate sabbatical. Mystery surrounds the decision for Hegarty to up stumps and relocate from Sydney to Melbourne earlier this year though we're informed it followed his break-up with a girlfriend. Hegarty was involved with fellow Nine staffer Amber Johnston in 2024 and into the early months of 2025. According to sources Hegarty, one of only two male reporters still on the books at 60, then took extended leave from the show although few wanted to furnish us with details on what prompted it. Sources initially claimed he wouldn't be returning to the current affairs program yet a week ago he was spotted back in the Nine bunker. As previously reported by this columnist, not everyone was thrilled when Hegarty was recruited to 60 Minutes at the start of 2024 with some telling us Hegarty's appointment irked some colleagues. Pub icon departs Sydney publican Margaret Hargreaves was given a fond farewell at St Mary's Catholic Church in North Sydney on Tuesday following her death on July 15 at age 90. The longtime proprietor of hotels The Strawberry Hills and The Shakespeare, Hargreaves' pubs were a home away from home for tribes of journalists through the years as well as detectives from the police fraud squad and an array Sydney identities who she collected through the decades and who thought of her as a surrogate mother. Among those paying respects at her funeral was troubled former game show host Andrew O'Keefe, Foxtel chief Patrick Delany and Real Housewives of Sydney cast member Krissy Marsh. Pallbearers included one-time real estate heavyweight James Dack and car salesman John Altomonte. Hargreaves is survived by her husband John, and four children Elizabeth, Kelly, John-Paul and Angie.
