Rams waive cornerback Derion Kendrick; will they trade for Jalen Ramsey?
The Rams made a move in their secondary, but it was not an addition.
Cornerback Derion Kendrick, sidelined last season after sustaining a torn anterior cruciate ligament during training camp, was waived, the team announced Friday.
Kendrick, a sixth-round draft pick in 2022, participated in the Rams' offseason program and organized team activities. He was scheduled to earn $3.4 million this season, according to Overthecap.com.
The secondary is something of a question mark for a Rams team that is regarded as a potential Super Bowl contender.
After finishing 10-7 and advancing to the NFC divisional round last season, the Rams neither signed a cornerback during free agency nor drafted one.
Veterans Darious Williams, 32, and Ahkello Witherspoon, 32, are the projected starting cornerbacks. Cobie Durant, Emmanuel Forbes Jr. and Josh Wallace are among others expected to play.
When asked, coach Sean McVay has not ruled out the possibility of trading for Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who helped the Rams win Super Bowl LVI. But Ramsey is due to earn $24.2 million this season and will have a salary-cap number of at least $25 million in the following three seasons, according to Overthecap.com. McVay has repeatedly pointed to 'a lot of layers' that would have to be addressed for a reunion with Ramsey to take place.
Two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander was recently released by the Green Bay Packers.
'Nothing but respect for the player but I don't know if that's a direction we would go,' McVay said this week about Alexander.
Kendrick played in 32 games for the Rams. He started six games as a rookie and 12 in 2023. He intercepted one pass.

Brandon Beane, the Bills' general manager, spoke out recently with a new update on Cook and the contract situation the two sides are facing. "Our interactions with Jimbo have been good the whole time throughout," Beane said. "I know he wasn't here (earlier this offseason), so everyone just draws their own conclusions. When you're talking about it, it's voluntary. We know that, we've had (players miss) it before, even with players who weren't lobbying for a new contract or anything like that." Basically, Beane does not seem too worried about the team's current status with Cook. He didn't touch on anything to do with potential progress with the running back, but he doesn't see any major situations to worry about right now. During the 2024 NFL season with Buffalo, Cook played in 16 games. He carried the football 207 times for 1,009 yards and 16 touchdowns, averaging 4.9 yards per carry. In addition, he caught 32 passes for 258 yards and two more scores. It remains to be seen if they'll be able to do that. Hopefully, there will be no more drama between the two sides. Cook may leave next offseason if he doesn't get a new deal from Buffalo, but he could still be a very important piece towards pursuing a championship in 2025. Tennessee Titans have two of NFL's worst contracts entering 2025 The Tennessee Titans had an aggressive offseason knowing they needed to build around whichever player they selected with the No. 1 overall pick. That player wound up being quarterback Cam Ward out of Miami, a move that has given some new hope to a franchise that hasn't reached the playoffs in three consecutive seasons. However, the offseason also included some questionable moves. With Mike Borgonzi taking over as the general manager for the first time in his career. When looking at the worst contracts across the NFL, the Titans were featured twice on the list from Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report. Cornerback L'Jarius Sneed, with his four-year, $76.4 million deal, came in at No. 9 on the list. It's easy to understand the rationale behind the Tennessee Titans' 2024 trade to acquire cornerback L'Jairus Sneed. Good cornerbacks are hard to find, and Sneed had excelled in Steve Spagnuolo's defense with the Kansas City Chiefs. Still, it was odd to see Tennessee immediately give a 27-year-old corner who had never been to a Pro Bowl a deal worth $19.1 million annually—which has him as the league's 11th-highest-paid cornerback a year later. Borgonzi inherited that contract, so it's difficult to hold that deal against him. However, coming in at No. 3 on the list was arguably the biggest move Borgonzi made during free agency: signing Dan Moore Jr. to a four-year, $82 million deal. The Titans entered free agency knowing that they were likely to use the No. 1 overall pick on Miami quarterback Cam Ward. Therefore, aggressively addressing the offensive line was logical. However, there isn't a world in which Moore should be the league's 10th-highest-paid tackle in terms of annual salary, which he currently is. Fortunately for the Titans, they have a quarterback on a rookie contract so they can afford to overpay right now for some lesser-tiered players. With that said, there's a good chance these deals will become even more of a talking point in the future.

Many of us have a lot of belief in JJ McCarthy, just given what head coach Kevin O'Connell, GM Kwesi adofo-Mensah have said publicly, along with what media insiders and the MN Vikings social media team have fed us through legacy and social medias. Now that the Vikings have chosen McCarthy as their QB1, anything coming out of Eagan has to be taken with a large grain of salt. Everyone inside of Minnesota Vikings facilities, from ownership to executives to coaches and all the way down to the players have a lot invested into the success of JJ McCarthy. How do we know the Minnesota Vikings love JJ McCarthy… The most telling insight into the Minnesota Vikings' heat check on JJ McCarthy's NFL readiness came back in March, when Daniel Jones turned down their $15 million offer because he knew the likelihood of winning the job over McCarthy wasn't good. Rodgers wanted to continue his career with the Vikings, but after extensive deliberations, Minnesota opted to proceed with McCarthy as its quarterback. The Michigan product has spent these offseason practices working his way back into a flow and, thus far, has impressed teammates with his leadership skills. That's why, until we see McCarthy take the regular season field and perform in games that matter, we'll only be able to guess at what his play will look like, even if some of those guesses are well-educated. Now that we know without a doubt that the Minnesota Vikings chose JJ McCarthy over Aaron Rodgers, it adds even more pressure on the young man's plate to perform well immediately.
