The Kansas City Chiefs earn a high ranking to start the preseason from an NFL analyst

USA Today4 days ago
The Kansas City Chiefs enter the 2025 preseason with plans to strengthen their roster and find hidden gems in the exhibition campaign.
NFL.com recently published an article ranking 2025 NFL teams that are rising/falling entering preseason Week 1, with the Chiefs at No. 3.
"The Chiefs are underrated defensively. That unit helped keep the team in every game last season, at least until the Super Bowl, and most of the group returns intact," wrote Eric Edholm, "But the offense has been on a two-year downturn, and we don't know how much longer Travis Kelce will play beyond this season. There's also the possibility that the Chiefs start a rookie left tackle, something that didn't work out well a year ago. If Josh Simmons wins the job, he likely will be lined up next to Kingsley Suamataia, who only lasted a few games at that LT spot before being moved to left guard this year. How that duo performs protecting Patrick Mahomes' blind side could determine if the Chiefs can make strides offensively."
Rookies and veterans hoping to impress the coaching staff will take full advantage of the upcoming games. The goal is to secure a spot on the final roster before the start of the regular season.
The Chiefs open their preseason schedule against the Arizona Cardinals Saturday night. They will then face the Seattle Seahawks on Friday, August 15th. They will end their exhibition campaign at home against the Chicago Bears on Friday, August 22nd.

Arizona Cardinals place WR Trishton Jackson on IR, add undrafted rookie WR

Jackson suffered a thumb injury on Sunday against the Chiefs. The Arizona Cardinals made a pair of roster moves on Tuesday dealing with the wide receiver room. After receiver Trishton Jackson suffered a thumb inury in the team's 20-17 preseason-opening win over the Kansas City Chiefs, the team placed him on injured reserve. Replacing him on offseason roster is receiver Kelly Akharaiyi, whom they signed Tuesday. Akharaiyi is an undrafted rookie who signed originally with the Buffalo Bills in May. He is six feet tall and 201 pounds and played collegiately for Tyler Junior College, UTEP and, in 2024, Mississippi State. Last year at Mississippi State, he had 391 yards and two touchdowns on 25 receptions. As a back-of-the-roster addition midway through the preseason, it is unlikely he will do enough to earn a spot on the 53-man roster, but perhaps he can earn a spot on someone's practice squad. If he gets any action in the team's preseason game on Saturday against the Denver Broncos, it will be late in the second half, but we can see if he can impress at all. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Miami Dolphins signed Odell Beckham Jr. last offseason. The former New York Giants superstar did not have a huge impact and is currently a free agent. While Beckham is not on a team, he has not retired. However, on Tuesday, a fake report on social media went viral, suggesting Beckham had retired. Countless accounts started congratulating him on a great career, but the wide receiver quickly addressed the report and shut it down. Beckham implored everyone to "stop reading everything on the internet" while letting everyone know that he's not ready to retire yet. No seriously. Plz stop reading everything on the internet, and stop texting me happy retirement b4 u piss me off 😭😭😭. That will get no response. I promise u the day I'm done I will let u kno. Beckham also made what many regard as the best catch of all time. Beckham's best years came with the New York Giants, and he has not really had much of an impact since 2021. He was traded to the Los Angeles Rams that season and ended up being an important piece in their Super Bowl victory. He had just 55 yards on nine catches last season with the Dolphins. He was once one of the best players in the entire NFL, but he has since declined. He is still available for a team to sign. More NFL: Vikings Confirm Rondale Moore Will Miss Entire 2025 Season
