The prospect of being held underwater by one of The Krays' henchmen is not one most people would jump at — unless you're East 17's Terry Coldwell.
Terry, 50, gladly put himself in Chris Lambrianou's arms to be baptised at the River Church in London's East End.
Seven born-again Christians stepped into the water with the 83-year-old former gangster, who spent part of his life as a member of 'The Firm'.
The Firm was the nickname given to Ronnie and Reggie Kray's gang, based in Bethnal Green, London, throughout the 50s and 60s.
A video shared by the Daily Mail showed Terry, speaking with Chris and the church's pastor, Dave Gill, as he stood in waist-high water for the ceremony.
'I've just been baptised and I feel absolutely amazing,' the Stay Another Day hitmaker told the Daily Mail. 'The service has been phenomenal today.'
Terry added: 'I just feel great. I feel it was a long time coming and I'm really glad I did it.'
A baptism is usually performed by a priest or bishop, but there are no restrictions on this in the Bible.
East 17 rose to fame in the 90s, consisting of Terry, Tony Mortimer, Brian Harvey and John Hendy, with over 18million albums worldwide.
The lineup has changed over the years, with Terry remaining constant, although he recently shared that he doubted a reunion was likely.
Meanwhile, Chris had a very different career and would probably rather have avoided the spotlight entirely.
He was involved in the dumping of Jack 'The Hat' McVitie's body after he was stabbed by Reggie in 1967.
During his prison sentence after being arrested for armed robbery, Chris found God and moved away from his life of crime.
Of the baptism, he shared: ''Baptising so many people gives me a spiritual high. It's like you cannot buy the feeling I have. More Trending
'That can only come from Jesus Christ. Trust in him and he will never fail you.'
He also set up a charity with a former Metropolitan police detective, Jon Wedger, to help provide work for young people and keep them from turning to crime.
Jon attended the Sunday service along with some close friends and said: 'I found the service to be very moving. I've know Terry for a few years and his faith has got stronger and stronger and I think it's been niggling away at him to get baptised for a while now.
'Myself and Chris have worked together for a while now. He is a man who has turned his back on crime and devoted himself to God and is making a difference now in people's lives and helping youngsters avoid making the same mistakes he did.'

Dakota Johnson furious Chris Martin was 'dragging his feet' on wedding date

Actress Dakota Johnson and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin separated after nearly eight years together, which reportedly left the Fifty Shades film series star feeling "incredible pain" Dakota Johnson became unhappy longtime beau Chris Martin was "dragging his feet" over their wedding date, sources have claimed. The couple are believed to have ended their eight-year relationship in part over frustration around this, as Dakota, 35, was "sick" a date hadn't been set. The pair got engaged years after starting their on-off relationship in 2017, following Chris' divorce with actress Gwyneth Paltrow. ‌ A source told Page Six: "She was sick of him dragging his feet on setting a date for the wedding." Chris, 48, had been married to Gwyneth for 13 years and has two children with the actress. ‌ And other sources close to Dakota and Chris understand the couple have had disagreements about having kids together. Another insider said: "They broke up over Chris Martin not wanting to have more kids." Unlike the Coldplay singer, Dakota has never been married previously and she doesn't have any children. A source previously told the Sun: "They really tried to work through their issues but the age gap was often a problem. She'd [also] expressed that she may want children in the future, whereas Chris is kind of done with that part of his life." The source further told the outlet that Johnson and Martin had been "back and forth on issues for years" — and had discussions about everything, including children. The split reportedly left Dakota, who was in the Fifty Shades film series and last year's Madame Web, feeling "incredible pain". Coldplay's epic world tour continues and Dakota has been away on shoots for upcoming films Materialists and Verity recently. It is thought their flourishing careers have also provided challenges for their relationship. ‌ A source had told The Sun: "Dakota wanted this relationship to work. She not only loves Chris, but his two kids, and that loss feels incredibly painful. The decision to end things was amicable, but Dakota is finding it hard. Over the past year, it became clear that their relationship had stalled and wasn't moving forwards. "Settling down, as in Chris properly taking his foot off the pedal, isn't going to happen. And, ultimately, it was one of the many straws that broke the back of them." When news of the couple's split emerged recently, an insider told the press: "They just haven't been able to figure out to make it official. Dakota held a flame for them to be together because she loved him so much and loved his kids so much. "Breakups aren't instant and they continued to breakup and makeup and sometimes things would work when they were away from each other, while they were working because absence makes the heart grow fonder, but then they'd get back together and little things just kept adding up to where they weren't right for each other anymore... Dakota is devastated that she isn't going to be around his kids as much anymore, but wants them to know that she is always there for them."

EXCLUSIVE Reality icon Johnny Bananas addresses racism backlash over 'misleading' Netflix edit

Johnny Bananas, the MTV reality veteran, has responded to accusations that he made a racist comment during his appearance on the Netflix live dating show Pop the Balloon. The incident, which aired in April, sparked controversy after viewers believed a joke he made was directed at a Black contestant. In an interview with Bananas, 42, stated that a close-up camera angle made it appear he was addressing the wrong contestant. According to Bananas, Netflix has since updated the streaming version of the episode with a wider camera angle that clearly shows which contestant he was addressing. 'They corrected the error and the footage as it lives now accurately shows who I was actually speaking to,' Bananas told 'Now it's clear to anyone who watches the Pop the Balloon episode that the comment I made was directed towards a white contestant.' has reached out to Netflix for comment but has not received a response. Bananas further stated, 'I want to be absolutely clear... anyone who knows me, knows my heart and my character, and they know that I'm not a racist and would never make any sort of racist comment towards anyone.' The moment in question involved Bananas moving down a line of contestants, jokingly commenting on their toes as a quirky dating preference. He stopped at one contestant and said, 'You look like you sleep from a tree hanging upside down.' In response to the backlash on Twitter— where one user posted, 'That's so racist @netflix' —Bananas shared a photo from the scene along with a message clarifying his remarks. He wrote that he was referring to the 'WHITE girl whose toes were hanging over her shoes who is literally dressed like a tree,' and criticized what he described as a 'false narrative' around the incident. Bananas told that the exchange was meant to be playful banter, noting the live format encouraged a back-and-forth dynamic among contestants. 'There was a fun, kind of back-and-forth with multiple contestants on the stage. Insults were flying around,' he said. 'I was getting made fun of for my age, the way I dressed. And I was just firing quips because the show was live.' In response to the backlash on Twitter— where one user posted, 'That's so racist @netflix' —Bananas shared a photo from the scene along with a message clarifying his remarks Despite this, Bananas acknowledged that the backlash affected him and apologized for any hurt caused by the incident. 'The damage has already been done,' he said. 'While the correction has been made, the record has to be set straight.' Bananas, who has appeared on more than two dozen seasons of MTV's The Challenge as well as shows like House of Villains, Love Island, and the latest U.S. version of The Traitors, expressed surprise at the accusations given his long career in reality television. 'It's kind of crazy that after 19 years of being on TV and all the media training I've had, and the diverse groups of individuals I've filmed with, that I would do something as dumb and as insensitive as making a blatantly racist comment on live national television,' he said. Bananas also shared that the controversy has led to significant online criticism, including death threats. He attributed the incident primarily to the camera angle and editing rather than intent. 'I think none of this would have happened if it wasn't for this camera angle and the way it was edited,' he said. 'I don't think this was an edit done to intentionally try to harm me.' 'If this could change one person's mind who was truly hurt by what happened, if one person can be convinced that I'm not what they might have thought based on that edit, then that means the world to me,' he concluded He added that he supports accountability when it is warranted but felt this situation was a misrepresentation. 'Accountability has to be based on truth,' Bananas said. 'What happened here wasn't accountability. It was a rush to outrage fueled by a misrepresentation of something that should not have aired the way it did.' Bananas concluded by expressing hope that the clarification will help address any misunderstandings. 'If this could change one person's mind who was truly hurt by what happened, if one person can be convinced that I'm not what they might have thought based on that edit, then that means the world to me.'
