Nebraska baseball evens series with Minnesota off game-winning hit in the ninth
The Nebraska baseball team (23-24, 10-13) clashed with Minnesota (22-23, 8-15) on Saturday in the second game of the conference series. Nebraska won the day 5-4 to even the series in front of a season-high crowd of 6,785.
Nebraska got the victory in game-winning fashion with Robby Bolin hitting a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth. Bolin finished 2-for-5 on the day with two RBIs, handing the Huskers their final two runs of the game.
This capped off the Huskers' comeback after the Golden Gophers took a 3-0 lead in the third. Nebraska tied the game in the fourth off a Tyler Stone three-run home run, Stone's only hit of the game.
Devin Nunez hit 2-for-2 with a run scored while Cayden Brumbaugh, Gabe Swansen, Dylan Carey, and Will Jesske all served up one hit apiece.
Ty Horn started at pitcher for Nebraska, going 6.0 innings and striking out six. He surrendered four runs off seven hits. Tucker Timmerman (1-1) closed out the game, shutting down the Golden Gophers across the final three frames to get the win.
Nebraska will conclude the series with Minnesota on Sunday afternoon. The first pitch will be at 1:00 p.m. CT on B1G+.

NFL teams monitoring wide receiver trade market: Why Vikings, Jets, 49ers need help
As roster cutdown day gets closer, teams are expected to find creative ways to churn the back of their rosters. That includes trying to find a trade partner for a player they would otherwise part ways with and receive nothing in return. The Athletic's NFL insider Dianna Russini reported that several teams are monitoring the trade market for potential wide receiver additions, including the Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers. Let's take a look at the situation for the teams in question and why they're in the market for external pass-catching help. The Jets are among several teams monitoring the trade market for potential wide receiver additions, per sources. The 49ers and Vikings are also making calls. — Dianna Russini (@DMRussini) August 20, 2025 It begins with Jordan Addison's suspension. The third-year receiver will miss the first three games of the season. The Vikings believed they'd be able to overcome his absence with Justin Jefferson and Jalen Nailor. Then last week, during joint practices with the New England Patriots, Nailor jammed his hand. Coach Kevin O'Connell has said that he's optimistic the injury won't be long term, but the next few weeks are still in question. Without Addison and Nailor, the Vikings don't have any experienced depth options. Advertisement They signed Rondale Moore this offseason, but Moore suffered a season-ending knee injury in the team's first preseason game. Beyond that, Minnesota has journeymen like Tim Jones, Lucky Jackson and Thayer Thomas. Even though the Vikings plan to lean heavily into the run game and heavier personnel groupings early in the season, they need another reliable separator and pass catcher. Perhaps most important is finding a player who has some familiarity with O'Connell's complex system. The Vikings are also in line for multiple compensatory picks in 2026, providing more willingness to part with a pick than they otherwise would be. — Vikings beat writer Alec Lewis The Jets went bargain shopping for wide receivers this offseason, signing Josh Reynolds, who had ties to coach Aaron Glenn in Detroit and general manager Darren Mougey in Denver, but that was largely because they like him as a run blocker. In his eight-year journeyman career in the NFL, Reynolds has never eclipsed 620 yards receiving in a season. They brought back Allen Lazard, coming off two seasons in which he had issues with drops, on a cheaper deal for the same reason. They drafted Arian Smith in the fourth round, and he's looked good in camp, but he had some issues with drops in college and probably isn't ready for a huge role right away. Malachi Corley, a third-rounder last year, barely made a dent last season and probably won't make the final 53-man roster. They also signed Tyler Johnson, who has some experience, but he has never had more than 360 yards in a season. — Jets beat writer Zack Rosenblatt The 49ers are interested in a receiver because their numbers are alarmingly low at the position to start the season. They expect to go into Week 1 without three of their top six players: Brandon Aiyuk (recovering from 2024 ACL), Demarcus Robinson (suspension) and rookie Jordan Watkins (high ankle sprain). That leaves Jauan Jennings, Ricky Pearsall and Jacob Cowing, all of whom have been hurt at one point this summer. — 49ers beat writer Matt Barrows (Photo of Jordan Addison: David Berding / Getty Images) Spot the pattern. College football writer predicts Texas A&M to win double-digit games in 2025
Although the time for talking is nearing its conclusion, another college football analyst has predicted Texas A&M to win 10 regular-season contests in 2025. The Athletic college football writer Stewart Mandel recently predicted records for every program in the Southeastern Conference, while also attaching additional thoughts on the top contenders in the league this season. According to Mandel's projections, the Aggies will finish with a 10-2 (6-2 in SEC) overall record and a fourth-place finish to this year's campaign. While he is not the only media member predicting Texas A&M to finish with 10 wins for the first time since 2012, it is a testament to the true strength and depth of the roster in Bryan-College Station, Texas, this season and the potential the program has to break the glass ceiling finally. Here are Mandel's official 2025 SEC record predictions in the latest piece for The Athletic on Wednesday: It will not be an easy road for the Aggies this season, however. Entering his second year as Texas A&M's head coach, Mike Elko will lead his team against the No. 10 most-difficult schedule in college football in 2025. Road contests against Notre Dame, Arkansas, LSU and Texas will be challenging contests that will be integral in determining the success of the program this year. After finishing 2024 with an 8-5 (5-3 in SEC), Elko and company are seeking to rewrite the woes and demolish the stigma surrounding the Aggies' inability to close the season on the right foot. With some of the top-rated talent in the country wearing the Maroon and White in 2025, including linebacker Taurean York and offensive lineman Ar'maj Reed-Adams who rank in ESPN's Top 100 Players, Mandel believes that the Aggies are a true sleeper team heading into this season's ventures. "This is my SEC sleeper team. The Aggies quietly fielded the league's top scoring offense in conference play (29.4), and dynamic QB Marcel Reed figures to be more advanced. The backfield is deep, led by Le'Veon Moss. Yes, the defense has questions. But I like the Aggies to go on the road in Week 3 and upset Notre Dame." Before Texas A&M can make the trip to South Bend in a few weeks, the program must first take on UTSA on Saturday, August 30, at Kyle Field. One Notre Dame player named to On3's preseason All-Transfer Portal Team
Notre Dame football went to the transfer portal this offseason to address its need at wide receiver, bringing in a pair of players in Virginia's Malachi Fields and Wisconsin's Will Pauling. The former Badger was named a captain on Monday, but many expect a bigger impact out of the 6-foot, 4-inch Fields. On Wednesday, he was named to On3's preseason All-Transfer Portal Team, adding more hype for the upcoming season. Fields had consecutive 800-plus yards seasons with the Cavaliers, scoring five touchdowns in each of those seasons. If he can bring that type of production with him to South Bend, he's going to have a big year. Yesterday, we found out that CJ Carr has won the quarterback competition over Kenny Minchey, so he now knows who will be throwing him the ball. It's not out of the realm of possibilities to see Fields go for over 1,000 yards, which no Notre Dame wide receiver has done since Chase Claypool in 2019. Hopefully he breaks the streak with a huge year.
