Patriotic Alliance files charges against Open Chat Podcast for racist remarks

The Patriotic Alliance has filed criminal charges against Open Chat Podcast hosts Mthokozisi Methula and Sinothando Kama following their racist remarks aimed at the Coloured community.
The PA's Liam Jacobs, shared a video in which he can be seen walking into and opening a case at the Brooklyn police station in Pretoria on Wednesday.

The podcast hosts and production team have come under fire after a clip from the original recording went viral.
In the clip, which, according to the podcast team, has since been deleted from the recording, the hosts make several racist comments, claiming that not only do Coloured families have sexual relationships with each other (incest), but they also suffer mental issues.
"Coloureds apparently chow (have sex with) each other," one of the hosts says.
In response, a co-host says, "I do believe that because Coloureds are crazy.

Meanwhile, the PA's legal team has sent a letter addressed to the hosts.
According to the letter, the podcast's team's "brief apology and removal of the offending clip are legally and morally insufficient."
The PA also plans to lodge a formal complaint with the SABC, requesting a review of its broadcast contract.
The party further states that it will institute proceedings in the Equality Court for unlawful discrimination.
"[We will] submit a complaint to YouTube demanding the immediate removal of your podcast episode from the platform," the letter stated.
PA leader, Gayton McKenzie took to social media where he condemned the hosts' comments.
He said the plan is not to "destroy" the hosts but if nothing is done, the perceptions and narrative created by the podcast will destroy other people's mentality of Coloured people.
"It has become too easy to insult Coloured people in this country. It has become too easy to have something to say about Coloured people. People will say things about Coloured people and it's pure racism," McKenzie said.
He said racism towards any race group in South Africa is wrong.
"Enough is enough," McKenzie said adding that the PA will march - in their thousands - to the various offices where the podcast is recorded as well as those broadcasters where it is aired.
He said the party will also take the matter up with the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC).

Palestinian Authority slams Israel's escalation in Gaza
RAMALLAH - The Palestinian Authority on Saturday lambasted the Israeli government's decision to expand its military operations in Gaza, calling on the international community to push for the entry of more aid into the Strip. According to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa, presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh said the Israeli government's moves were "an unprecedented challenge and provocation to the international will to achieve peace and stability". He went on to urge the "international community, led by the UN Security Council, to urgently compel the occupying state to cease its aggression, allow the entry of aid, and work diligently to enable the State of Palestine to assume its full responsibilities in the Gaza Strip". The PA - conceived as a first step towards a Palestinian state - exercises limited administration over parts of the Israeli-occupied West Bank. The territory is home to about three million Palestinians, as well as around half a million Israelis living in settlements considered illegal under international law. The PA, however, does not have a presence in Gaza, which has been governed by Hamas for nearly two decades. Early Friday, the Israeli security cabinet approved plans for a major operation to seize Gaza City, triggering a wave of criticism across the globe. Teenager on school outing missing at Durban beach
A search operation is underway at Wedge Beach in Durban after a 16-year-old male teenager was reported missing in the surf zone on Friday evening, 8 August. According to the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), the teenager was believed to be part of a local school outing when he went missing around 18:08. The NSRI Durban duty crew, KZN Surf Rescue Network, Police Search and Rescue, Metro Police Search and Rescue, and the SA Police Services responded swiftly to the scene. The NSRI rescue craft Spirit of Surfski 6 was launched, and an extensive sea and shoreline search was conducted throughout the night. Despite their efforts, no sign of the missing teen has been found. The search resumed on Saturday morning and remains ongoing. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and the SAPS have launched an investigation. 'Thoughts, care and compassion are with the family and friends of the missing teenager during this incredibly difficult time,' the NSRI said in a statement.
