Referring to Home Minister Amit Shah's earlier remarks in the House, where he recalled seeing Salman Khurshid emerge from Sonia Gandhi's residence in tears after the Batla House encounter, Priyanka Gandhi said, "In the House, my mother's tears were mentioned, and I want to respond to that. My mother's tears fell when her husband was martyred by terrorists, when she was just 44 years old."
She added, "I am talking about the 26 victims of
Pahalgam
because I understand their pain."
The Congress leader asked why basic safety arrangements were missing in a known tourist area. "Did the government not know thousands of tourists go to Baisaran Valley? Why was there no security? Why were they left at God's mercy?" she said, questioning the absence of any preventive measures.

Calling out the top leadership, Priyanka asked whether or not safety of citizens is the responsibility of the Prime Minister, Home Minister, Defence Minister, and the National Security Advisor.
While acknowledging the valour of the armed forces during Operation Sindoor, she underlined the lack of accountability from the
BJP government
's top brass. "You talk of history, I want to talk of present; you must take responsibility for last 11 years."
"Taking credit is fine, but Modi must also take responsibility for what happened in Pahalgam," she said.

BJP leader Tejasvi Surya on Sunday announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bengaluru and inaugurate the Yellow Line Metro on August 10. Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for Metro Phase-3, he said. In a post on 'X', Surya said, "Hon. "Together, these projects will benefit nearly 25 lakh people in Bengaluru South," he said. Amarnath Yatra suspended amid high-level political huddles in Delhi
Amarnath Yatra 2025 was officially suspended late on Monday, with the Jammu district administration relieving all officers and officials deployed at key Facilitation Centres in the city. The move comes amid heightened political activity in New Delhi and specualtion around the possible restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. An order issued by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, directed immediate withdrawal of staff from the Base Camp at Yatri Niwas (Bhagwati Nagar), Ram Mandir (Purani Mandi), and Geeta Bhawan (Parade). Officers have been instructed to return to their original postings for regular duty. The suspension follows the annual yatra's high footfall this year and coincides with a surge in political meetings in the national capital. President Droupadi Murmu recently held back-to-back meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, sparking speculation about a significant political development in the Union Territory. Shah has also met with senior leaders from Jammu and Kashmir, including the BJP chief of the erstwhile state. Significantly, this (August 5) is the sixth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370. In 2019, J&K was stripped of its statehood. The timing of the yatra's formal suspension has only added fuel to speculation that a major announcement on J&K's political future could be imminent.
