AFF U-23: 1,620-strong security deployment for heated Indonesia-Malaysia football clash in Jakarta
The third group match is scheduled for kickoff at 8 pm local time (9 pm Malaysian time) at Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Main Stadium, Senayan Sports Complex.
"The security forces consist of officers from Metro Jaya police, counterparts from the armed forces, and several officers from the Indonesian National Police headquarters,' said a spokesperson from Metro Jaya District Police, Commissioner Ade Ary Syam Indradi, in a statement.
He said traffic around the stadium area will be managed according to prevailing needs and situations.
The Malaysia U-23 squad is gunning for a semifinal slot in this final Group A match against hosts Indonesia U-23, following a 0-2 loss to the Philippines U-23 in their opener on Tuesday and a 7-1 trouncing of Brunei U-23 on Friday. - Bernama

Soon Huat-Shevon crash out in China Open first round
THE hopes of national mixed doubles pair of Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie of reaching the final of China Open Badminton Championship were dashed in the 2025 edition when they crashed out in the first round in Changzhou today. The world number six was shown the way out by Indonesian pair, Jafar Hidayatullah-Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu in 21-18, 22-24, 15-21 over an hour. This is Soon Huat-Shevon's second defeat to the same pair, apart from failing to retain their runner-up position in the tournament in the 2024 edition. KUALA LUMPUR: Goh Sze Fei–Nur Izzuddin Rumsani's bid to arrive at next month's World Championships in Paris as a top-four seeded pair suffered a dent following the latest world rankings update today. The Malaysians slipped two rungs to world No. 3 in men's doubles, with South Korea's Kim Won Ho–Seo Seung Jae taking over the top spot after denying them a successful title defence at the Japan Open last week. Compatriots Aaron Chia–Soh Wooi Yik remained unmoved at No. 2 despite also falling early in Tokyo. The pressure is now squarely on Sze Fei–Izzuddin to bounce back at this week's China Open in Changzhou — their final tournament before the seedings are finalised for the World Championships, based on the Aug 8 ranking. Anything short of a deep run could see them tumbling out of the top four, a scenario that would severely compromise their title aspirations in Paris. A seeding outside the top four could pit them against the tournament favourites as early as the quarter-finals. Meanwhile, other Malaysian men's doubles pairs also saw positive movements.
