Proton has officially revealed the new EV at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025 in MAEPS Serdang. However, the official unveiling today did not reveal the car's full look. Instead, the e.MAS 5 shown today is still camouflaged with a custom wrapping. As for its name, Proton said the number '5' in the e.MAS 5 name signifies the EV's compact form factor as opposed as to its older and larger SUV sibling, the e.MAS 7. At the same time, the national automaker is aiming the e.MAS 5 towards the younger crowd while e.MAS 7 is meant for families. What are the Proton e.MAS 5 specs? Unfortunately, the official specs of the EV are still a secret for the time being. That being said, we have some idea of how they going to be. This is because the e.MAS 5 is based on Geely Xingyuan, also known as the Geely Star Wish. Here are the top-line specs for the Xingyuan: Base variant: 30.1kWh LFP battery Range: ~280km (WLTP)
Output: 78hp, 130Nm Premium variant: 40.2kWh LFP battery Range: ~380km (WLTP)
Output: 114hp, 150Nm 2,650mm wheelbase 375L rear boot, expandable to 1,320Lwith seats down 70L frunk with a 25kg limit 20L centre console, 10L dash drawer, and a rear under-seat storage bin 10.25' digital instrument cluster 14.6' infotainment touchscreen with Flyme OS On a related note, Proton has previously said that the high-voltage battery for the new EV will be 'included' with the car. This is generally a light-hearted reference to Perodua's plan to introduce battery leasing for its upcoming EV. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Sabah, Sarawak JPJ kiosks to offer road tax renewals from tomorrow
In addition, renewals can also be done via the MyJPJ app, mySIKAP JPJ portal, JPJ mobile counters, and JPJ strategic partners. – Malay Mail photo PUTRAJAYA (June 5): Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM or road tax) renewals for individual private vehicles can be carried out at Road Transport Department (JPJ) kiosks in Sabah and Sarawak starting tomorrow. JPJ, in a statement today, said the renewal service will be available at 41 kiosks; 21 in Sabah and 20 in Sarawak. This service, however, applies only to private vehicles registered from 2020 onwards. 'For individual private vehicles registered before 2020, owners or their representatives must go to the JPJ counters for renewal,' it said. In addition, renewals can also be done via the MyJPJ app, mySIKAP JPJ portal, JPJ mobile counters, and JPJ strategic partners. Vehicle owners are also advised to ensure their motor insurance coverage is valid and active before renewing their road tax at JPJ kiosks, as the system will automatically verify insurance details during the transaction. 'This initiative is part of JPJ's ongoing efforts to enhance service efficiency and provide greater convenience to the public by digitalising its services. 'Through the use of self-service kiosks, users can carry out road tax renewals independently and quickly without needing to queue at the counter,' the statement said. At the same time, JPJ reiterated its commitment to expanding access to digital services, in line with the government's aspirations for a fully digital public service transformation and more efficient service delivery. – Bernama JPJ kiosks LKM private vehicles renewals road tax sabah sarawak

Proton sales up 6pct in May, marking third straight month of growth
KUALA LUMPUR: Proton Holdings Bhd sold 13,328 vehicles in May, comprising domestic and export sales as well as units from its smart and Proton ranges. In a statement today, the national carmaker said the figure represents a 6.1 per cent increase from May 2024 and marks the third straight month of sales growth. For the March-to-May period, year-on-year (YoY) sales rose 10 per cent, bringing year-to-date (YTD) sales to 61,087 units. Proton estimates a 19.2 per cent market share for May, based on a projected total industry volume (TIV) of 69,495 units. The YTD market share is also forecast at 19.2 per cent. According to Proton, individual volume drivers this year include the Proton X50 and Proton X70, which have sold strongly since the introduction of their updated variants last year. Export sales have also been strong, now 36.6 per cent ahead of 2024, while the Proton 7 led EV sales for a fifth consecutive month in May while breaking through the 900-unit sales barrier for the very first time. Proton chief executive officer Dr Li Chunrong said after a slow start to 2025, sales of Proton vehicles have shown an upward trend over the last three months. He added that this is a direct result of the group's promotion efforts as well as the strong attraction car buyers have to our range that offers stylish, technology driven products sold via an industry leading network of 3S/4S outlets. "Going into the second half of 2025, Proton is confident we can maintain our momentum as we initiate a flurry of events and model introductions in line with the next phase of our overall business plan," he said. With new vehicle sales in Malaysia nearing saturation, Proton said it is ramping up efforts to strengthen its presence in overseas markets. It added that 2025 has seen multiple events promoting its overseas presence, kicking off with the launch of the CKD Proton Saga in LHD form for the Egyptian market and two 7 focussed activities in Nepal and Singapore. The carmaker noted that June will see the introduction of the company's EV in Trinidad & Tobago, its second export market after Nepal, which is expected to increase its numbers beyond the 233 units exported thus far. The top export model is the Proton Saga with 710 units followed by the Proton X50, which has grown its YTD export sales by 360 per cent to 694 units. "The increased focus placed on growing export sales is paying short term dividends as we see an immediate uptick in volume. "Penetrating and being successful in overseas markets requires long-term commitment and Proton is confident we can achieve our goals with a structured plan to manage our expansion," Li Chunrong said.

From open space to private parking?
Published on: Thursday, June 05, 2025 Published on: Thu, Jun 05, 2025 Text Size: 'Was this conversion approved by DBKK, and what is the legal basis for turning public land into private parking? Will DBKK allow others to do the same with public spaces?,' Gee asked. Kota Kinabalu: Luyang Community Development Leader (PPM) and SAPP Vice President Gee Tien Siong, wants the KK MP office and City Hall (DBKK) to clarify the conversion of a public open space into a private parking area. He said the cement-paved lot, located at Taman Luyang Phase 3, was previously a green space and playground used by local residents. It is now being used as a car park for the MP office, raising concerns about legality and public access. 'Was this conversion approved by DBKK, and what is the legal basis for turning public land into private parking? Will DBKK allow others to do the same with public spaces?,' he said in a statement on Tuesday. Recent photos show vehicles blocking access to a children's playground, including swings and a seesaw. Residents told that the area was once a popular spot for leisure and family activities. As of today, neither the KK MP office nor DBKK has issued a statement regarding the matter. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
