Venezuelan Navarro reports xenophobic remark during Copa Libertadores clash
The incident occurred late in the match after Luciano da Rocha Neves had scored the winning goal, sparking tensions on the pitch.
According to Navarro, an exchange of words turned bitter when Bobadilla allegedly said: "You starving Venezuelan".
"I wish I could have in my hands the solution to the hunger that my country is experiencing, I hope that God gives me abundance to be able to help. I don't think much can be done about mental poverty," Navarro said on social media.
"I will never be ashamed of my roots, I will go to the last consequences in the face of the act of xenophobia that I experienced today in Brazil at the hands of Damian Bobadilla. In football there is no room for hate speech," he added.
According to Brazilian media, Navarro reported the verbal abuse to local police, although authorities arrived at Talleres' dressing room after Bobadilla had left the stadium.
Bobadilla issued an apology through a video posted on social media on Wednesday.
"We exchanged some rough words. I was offended at first but I apologise because, in the heat of the moment, I reacted badly. It wasn't my intention to discriminate. If I get the chance to talk to Miguel, I will apologise to him directly," the Paraguayan midfielder said.

Wissa to miss Brentford opener due to uncertainty over future
Brentford forward Yoane Wissa will not feature in Sunday's Premier League game at Nottingham Forest due to uncertainty over his future, manager Keith Andrews said on Thursday. The 28-year-old DR Congo international has attracted interest from clubs including Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United. Andrews' first league game comes after a difficult summer for Brentford upheaval during which long-serving manager Thomas Frank joined Tottenham Hotspur, and key players departed. Brentford, who finished 10th last season, sold their top goalscorer Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United and captain Christian Norgaard moved to Arsenal. "I have made a decision he is not (available). It has been a very disruptive pre-season and the interest in Yoane is very clear," Andrews told reporters on Thursday. "As a head coach, I want Yoane to be in the building and be a part of the first team and the squad. But I am very understanding of his situation. I have a very good relationship with him, and that will persist, but we want him to stay." Mbeumo scored 20 Premier League goals last season, one more than Wissa. Andrews is optimistic about next season, particularly because of the signing of former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson. "Jordan Henderson's come in and has been amazing around the place and the influence that he's having on the group and our younger players in particular," Andrews said. "Anthony Milambo (attacking midfielder signed from Feyenoord) was someone I was very keen on bringing in. He's a very talented young player. "At the top end of the pitch, two players spring to mind — Thiago and Fabio Carvalho. Both are so talented and have come through a really good pre-season. They are ready show what talented young players they are."

Rooney says Brady questioning work ethic was unfair
Wayne Rooney has hit back at Tom Brady after the NFL great questioned his work ethic during his brief managerial spell at second-tier English club Birmingham City, saying the criticism was "very unfair". Former New England Patriots quarterback Brady, minority owner of Birmingham, in an Amazon Prime documentary series titled, 'Built In Birmingham: Brady & The Blues', had said he was a little worried about Rooney's work ethic. Ex-Manchester United and England forward Rooney, 39, was dismissed as the manager of Birmingham in January last year after less than three months in the role, following a winless run that left the club hovering above the relegation zone. "I think Tom came in once, which was the day before a game where the days are a little bit lighter anyway, and I don't think he really understood football that well," Rooney said on the Wayne Rooney Show podcast. "But what he does understand is, he's a hard worker, we know that." "Football is not NFL – NFL works for three months a year. Players do need rest as well, so I think he's very unfair, the way he's come out and portrayed that." Seven-times Super Bowl champion Brady became a minority owner in Birmingham in August 2023. "Listen, I respect Tom Brady massively," Rooney said.

Bolsonaro's lawyers call for acquittal in alleged coup trial
BRASILIA: Defence lawyers for former president Jair Bolsonaro asked Brazil's Supreme Court for an acquittal during Wednesday's (Aug 13) closing arguments in a trial in which he is accused of attempting a coup. Bolsonaro's lawyers argued in a 197-page document submitted to the court that the far-right former leader is "innocent of all charges" and that an "absolute lack" of evidence was presented during the trial, which began in May. Bolsonaro and seven collaborators are accused of attempting to hold power despite his 2022 electoral defeat by Brazil's current leftist leader, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Thousands of Bolsonaro supporters stormed government buildings in Brasilia on January 8, 2023, a week after Lula's inauguration, alleging election fraud and calling on the military to intervene. Bolsonaro, who led the Latin American country from 2019 to 2022, has maintained his innocence for months, calling any coup "abhorrent". He faces up to 40 years in prison if found guilty. Bolsonaro was placed under house arrest in Brasilia this month for violating a ban on using social media to plead his case to the public. The prosecutor's office maintains that Bolsonaro led an "armed criminal organisation" that orchestrated the coup attempt and was its main beneficiary. The case file also focuses on meetings where draft decrees were allegedly presented, including those involving the possible imprisonment of officials such as Supreme Court judges. However, the defence has stressed that "there is no way to convict" Bolsonaro based on the evidence presented in the case file, which they argued adequately demonstrated that he ordered the transition of power to Lula. His lawyers have questioned the validity of the plea bargain handed to Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, Bolsonaro's former aide, on whose testimony many of the accusations are based. Bolsonaro's legal wranglings are at the centre of fizzing diplomatic tensions between Brazil and the United States. US President Donald Trump has called the trial a "witch hunt" and the US Treasury Department has sanctioned Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who is overseeing Bolsonaro's trial, in response.
