Rooney says Brady questioning work ethic was unfair
Former New England Patriots quarterback Brady, minority owner of Birmingham, in an Amazon Prime documentary series titled, 'Built In Birmingham: Brady & The Blues', had said he was a little worried about Rooney's work ethic.
Ex-Manchester United and England forward Rooney, 39, was dismissed as the manager of Birmingham in January last year after less than three months in the role, following a winless run that left the club hovering above the relegation zone.
"I think Tom came in once, which was the day before a game where the days are a little bit lighter anyway, and I don't think he really understood football that well," Rooney said on the Wayne Rooney Show podcast.
"But what he does understand is, he's a hard worker, we know that."
"Football is not NFL – NFL works for three months a year. Players do need rest as well, so I think he's very unfair, the way he's come out and portrayed that."
Seven-times Super Bowl champion Brady became a minority owner in Birmingham in August 2023.
"Listen, I respect Tom Brady massively," Rooney said.

Gyokeres set for Arsenal debut at Man Utd, says Arteta
Arsenal's new Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres is primed to make his Premier League debut against Manchester United, with manager Mikel Arteta predicting on Friday that the striker will have a "tremendous impact" this season as the club chases silverware. "For the last three seasons we have more points (combined) than anybody else in the league and that says a lot about our consistency. Now we just have to do it in a season." Arsenal great and former skipper Tony Adams suggested Arteta should take the captain's armband from Martin Odegaard, who had a relatively poor season due to injuries last term, and hand it to Declan Rice. However, Arteta said the decision to stick with Odegaard as the captain was unanimous. "My opinion is clear and it's not just my opinion, it's all the staff and especially the players. I asked them to vote the captain and I got the result yesterday," Arteta said. "By a mile, by a big, big 100 miles, everybody chose the same person - Martin Odegaard - which is the most clear sign that you can have. Sesko 'ready to play' as Amorim plots United's return to European football
MANCHESTER :Newly-signed Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko is ready to play but it is too early to say if he will start when the club kick off their Premier League campaign against Arsenal on Sunday, United manager Ruben Amorim said. Slovenia's Sesko joined United from RB Leipzig last weekend for a transfer fee of 76.5 million euros ($89 million) with 8.5 million in bonuses. United have spent around 200 million pounds this summer after finishing 15th last season. "We didn't have a lot of time but he is ready, physically he is ready, that is a big component in our league. Then, he's really smart... he is ready to play, we will see if he is going to start," Amorim told reporters on Friday. Amorim said United, who last season had their worst finish in the English top-flight since 1973-74, will go into the 2025-26 campaign aiming for a return to European soccer. "We cannot change everything in four weeks, but we are better. We're training harder and are more prepared to cope with the demands of the game," he said. "We want to return to Europe.
