Federal grants from National Endowment of the Arts withdrawn, local organizations feeling effects
The Summer Arts Institute is a two-week program for young musicians, artists, actors and writers who auditioned and earned their spot.
The Oklahoma Arts Institute is losing $30K in funding that they were counting on, with over 200 campers enrolled in their upcoming summer intensive program.
'It really is a blow,' said Caleb Mitchum, the Deputy Director of the Oklahoma Arts Institute.
Ariana Weir-Temoshok works for the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition. She attended the program while in school.
'I learned so many art skills, met so many people. It was an amazing experience. I can just really like trace a lot of, I don't know, some of my successes and things that have like really impacted me from going to the camp at Oklahoma Arts Institute,' Temoshok said.

The budget proposal in congress eliminates the National Endowment for the Arts completely, which means the Oklahoma Arts Institute wouldn't receive future funding.
Mitchum also got his start at Quartz.
'It's the reason why I'm a professional musician as well. Winners of Grammys, Tonys, Oscars, Pulitzer Prizes. These are the kinds of artists that these students may never have a chance to work with if they weren't a part of the Summer Arts Institute,' said Mitchum.
Despite the cuts being disappointing, they're moving forward with the program this summer, taking one step at a time.
Mitchum adds, 'I want the students to be excited for this summer. I don't want this to be the thing that they think about when they're coming and practicing their arts.'
For decades, the Oklahoma Arts Institute has relied on both private donations and grants. The future of next summer's program is still uncertain.

I Didn't Expect to Be Into J.Lo's New Movie—But The Trailer Changed My Mind
The trailer for Kiss of the Spider Woman just dropped—and yes, you're going to want to see it. But first, a little backstory. In this new film adaptation, Kiss of the Spider Woman centers on Valentín (played by Diego Luna), a political prisoner who ends up sharing a cell with Molina (Tonatiuh), a window dresser imprisoned for public indecency. As they spend time together behind bars, Molina captivates Valentín with the retelling of a lavish old Hollywood musical starring his favorite screen siren, Ingrid Luna—played by Jennifer Lopez. Now back to the trailer, it's really good. is seen sporting blonde locs as she sings and dances her way through dreamy musical numbers. As someone who walked into this trailer knowing nothing about the story, I can confidently say this is going on my watchlist. And given that musical films aren't usually my go-to (Wicked being the exception), I was genuinely surprised by how into it I was. This one feels right on key. And I'm not alone. Fans in the comments are already hyping the film up, with some even calling it Academy Award-worthy. 'Looks absolutely PHENOMENAL Expect this to rule the Oscars,' one user wrote. Another added, 'Awards contender on the horizon,' while a third chimed in, 'Oscar nomination for 2026.' The musical version of Kiss of the Spider Woman made its Broadway debut in March 1993. It became a critical success, earning seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical and a win for Chita Rivera, who originated the iconic title role. The first film adaptation of Kiss of the Spider Woman hit theaters in 1985. Now, the story is being reimagined by director Bill Condon—best known for Dreamgirls and Beauty and the Beast—with Lopez taking on her first-ever movie musical role. She's also behind the scenes as a co-producer, teaming up with her former husband Ben Affleck and his production partner Matt Damon under their Artists Equity banner. Kiss of the Spider Woman hits theaters on October 10. Want all the latest entertainment news sent right to your inbox? Click here. Morgan Wallen Is Making Sure He Won't Get Any Grammy Nominations by Not Submitting
Morgan Wallen is ensuring his streak of never receiving a solo Grammy nomination continues by declining to submit his latest album, I'm the Problem, for consideration. Wallen's team confirmed the news to Rolling Stone, after it was first reported by Hits Daily Double and Billboard. Not only will Wallen not submit I'm the Problem — which has spent 11 weeks so far at Number One on the Billboard 200 — in any of the album categories, he also won't submit individual recordings in categories like Record of the Year or Best Country Solo Performance. But as Billboard notes, Wallen's team won't stop any of the songwriters he worked with from putting up their work for consideration. Wallen isn't the first major artist to decline to submit their music to the Grammys. Most recently, Drake, the Weeknd, and Frank Ocean have rebuffed the institution, criticizing the nominations committees and voting body for being disconnected from what's actually popular and meaningful to contemporary audiences, especially in their worlds of hip-hop and R&B. After he declined to submit Blonde, Ocean said in a 2016 interview that the Grammys don't 'seem to be representing very well for people who come from where I come from, and hold down what I hold down.' He added: 'I think the infrastructure of the awarding system and the nomination system and screening system is dated. I'd rather this be my Colin Kaepernick moment for the Grammys than sit there in the audience.' (The Recording Academy has taken some steps in recent years to diversify its voters and nominees, and add some transparency to its nominations process. Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. noted these efforts at the 67th Grammys in February before introducing a beef-squashing performance from the Weeknd.) Unlike Wallen, however, Drake, the Weeknd, and Ocean staged their protests as multiple Grammy winners. (Though, potentially bolstering their critiques, all their victories were in genre categories, as opposed to the general fields of Song, Record, and Album of the Year, or Best New Artist.) Wallen has been nominated at the Grammys just twice, and both times as a featured artist on Post Malone's 'I Had Some Help.' Morgan Wallen Breaks Up with Grammys Before Grammys Can Hurt Him Again
The post Morgan Wallen Breaks Up with Grammys Before Grammys Can Hurt Him Again appeared first on Consequence. Morgan Wallen, who is doing to country music what Drake did to young girls hip-hop, is declining to submit his 37-track I'm the Problem for Grammy consideration after failing to win in previous years — a strategy commonly known as 'You're not breaking up with me, I'm breaking up with you.' As Billboard reports, Wallen's team will not enter the artist in any categories, though they will not stop collaborators such as Post Malone or Tate McRae from submitting their duets. Wallen was previously nominated for his work on Post Malone's F-1 Trillion, with multiple nods for No. 1 single 'I Had Some Help.' He has never won, putting him in rare company with The Monkees as the only artists to top the Billboard 200 for at least 30 weeks without earning Grammy gold. With this decision, Wallen is following in the footsteps of The Weeknd, who announced a Grammy boycott in 2021 following a perceived snub of After Hours. The Weeknd won a Grammy the very next year, for his work on the Future and Metro Boomin collab 'We Still Don't Trust You.' He may also be reacting to Beyoncé's win for Best Country Album earlier this year, which might suggest that the Academy and Wallen don't share the same taste in country music. Earlier this year, Wallen raised eyebrows with an awkward exit from the SNL stage, which led to some responses from the sketch show.
