Instead of writing to poll panel, Rahul Gandhi going to media seeking answers to

New Delhi [India], June 7 (ANI): The Election Commission had written a detailed letter to Congress in December last year rejecting its 'misleading' claims about voter turnout data in Maharashtra polls and, instead of writing to the poll panel directly, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi keeps speaking and writing to media seeking answers to his 'same unfounded doubts again and again', ECI sources said on Saturday. They said it is not clear as to why Rahul Gandhi is shying away from writing to EC in person himself and get a reply. ECI sources said that the poll panel had extended an invitation to the Indian National Congress (INC) for interaction, which was scheduled for May 15. However, the meeting was later cancelled at the request of INC itself. ECI has been conducting training sessions for Booth Level Agents (BLAs) nominated by political parties. Several BLAs from the Congress party have already undergone training at sources said the Commission remains open to extending similar training on the electoral process to senior leaders of the INC. Such training may help dispel any self-created doubts regarding the integrity of the electoral process, they said. Rahul Gandhi, who is Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, wrote an article in English daily, on Saturday alleging 'rigging' in Maharashtra assembly polls, and following a response to his allegations, alleged that the poll panel was 'releasing unsigned, evasive notes' in response to his queries. He demanded that EC should publish consolidated, digital, machine-readable voter rolls for the most recent elections to the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabhas of all states including Maharashtra. Earlier in the day, ECI had described as 'unsubstantiated' the allegations made by Rahul Gandhi in his newspaper article. 'Unsubstantiated allegations raised against the Electoral Rolls of Maharashtra are affront to the rule of law. The Election Commission had brought out all these facts in its reply to the INC on December 24, 2024 itself, which is available on ECI's website. It appears that all these facts are completely being ignored while raising such issues again and again,' ECI said. 'Any misinformation being spread, by anyone, is not only a sign of disrespect towards the Law, but also brings disrepute to the thousands of representatives appointed by their own political party and demotivates lakhs of election staff who work untiringly and transparently during elections. After any unfavourable verdict by the voters, trying to defame the Election Commission by saying that it is compromised, is completely absurd,' it added. (ANI)

'These are Muslim values, these are Canadian values': PM Mark Carney trolled on social media for his Eid message

Mark Carney was slammed on social media for his Eid message. Prime Minister Mark Carney was trolled on X for his speech at an Eid al-Adha celebration hosted by the Muslim Association of Canada. "The message of Eid resonates in this room, across this city, and it should resonate with all Canadians. .. the lessons and values of Eid are the same. Our Canada is a diverse country, proud home to different beliefs, different languages and different cultures. Those are differences that make us unique, and make us strong. We can pray differently but all of us must come together around the values of Eid," Caney said. "The values of community, of generosity and yes, of sacrifice. These are Muslim values, these are Canadian values," the PM said. "Is Canada done for?" a viral post on X commented sharing the video -- triggering a major debate over 'Islamized Canada'. "On Easter he couldn't even speak the name of Jesus Christ and made up some ridiculous notion that the holiday is about celebrating new beginnings (because it's Spring?) and then painted eggs," another post read. Indian-origin journalist Rupa Subramanya condemned the speech and said Islamic values are not Canadian values. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Mai puține griji la pensionare Pensia Facultativă NN Vezi oferta Undo "And there ain't nothing bigoted in saying that," she posted on X. "Canada was not built on the Muslim religion, or for that matter Hinduism or any other Pagan religion, Canada was built on Christianity, French and English built Canada, we are by descent a western European Christian Nation, the values of Canada are not Muslim values or any other religious values," one wrote. "No, Mark Carney. Muslim values are not Canadian values and they will never be and we must not normalize the Jihadist pedo inbred death cult and protect Canada from its expansionism," another wrote.

Srinagar's Jamia Masjid locked on Eid, Mirwaiz detained

SRINAGAR: Srinagar's historic Jamia Masjid was locked and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq placed under house arrest Saturday on Eid-ul-Adha, denying devotees the opportunity to offer prayers and provoking a backlash from many, including CM Omar Abdullah. Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid Srinagar, which looks after the mosque management, said the gates were closed early Saturday morning and police deployed outside. Mirwaiz and Hurriyat Conference chairman Umar Farooq's family has traditionally led prayers at the mosque for generations. 'It is deeply regrettable that once again, people were not allowed to offer Eid prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid,' Omar said. He expressed helplessness, saying law and order in J&K Union territory fell under the purview of lieutenant governor (LG) Manoj Sinha's administration. 'I have no idea on what grounds such decisions are made,' the CM said. Omar urged the authorities to trust J&K's residents, saying 'these are the same people who, after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, came forward and unequivocally condemned it'. The CM called on 'the govt' to reconsider such actions in the future, alluding probably to the administration of the Centre-appointed LG. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq decried the mosque closure. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 임플란트 최대 할인 지원해드려요 임플란터 더 알아보기 Undo 'Yet again, Kashmir wakes up to the sad reality: no Eid prayers at Eidgah, and Jama Masjid locked down for 7th straight year. I, too, have been detained at my home. In a Muslim-majority region, Muslims are deprived of their fundamental right to pray even on their most important religious occasion celebrated across the world! What a shame on those who rule over us, and on those elected by the people who choose to remain silent as our rights are trampled over, again and again,' the Mirwaiz posted on X. J&K police and home department had not issued any statement on locking of the mosque and Mirwaiz's detention. PDP president and former CM Mehbooba Mufti joined the condemnation, accusing the Omar-led govt of being 'mere spectators'. 'J&K is the only Muslim-majority region in the country, and yet it is here that a major mosque is shut down on Eid, denying people their right to offer prayers. If govt claims everything is normal in J&K, why is the Mirwaiz not allowed to offer prayers,' Mehbooba said. Asked about the restrictions, BJP functionary and J&K Waqf Board chairperson Darkshan Andrabi declined comment. 'Jamia Masjid doesn't come under Waqf Board,' she said.
