Ozzy Osbourne predicted he would 'die a happy man' after farewell gig

Perth Now23-07-2025
Ozzy Osbourne declared he would "die a happy man" if he "dropped down dead" away after a farewell gig.
The Black Sabbath star passed away on Tuesday (22.07.25) just two weeks after he got the band back together for a huge final show in their hometown of Birmingham, England - and he previously predicted he would be satisfied to if he managed to play one final concert celebrating his life.
Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine in 2023, Ozzy predicted: "I just want to be well enough to do one show where I can say: 'Hi guys, thanks so much for my life'.
"That's what I'm working towards, and if I drop down dead at the end of it, I'll die a happy man."
Ozzy's interview with Rolling Stone came before he had finalised plans for the Back to the Beginning show, which reunited him with his Black Sabbath bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward for one final show before stepping away from performing for good.
The veteran rocker suffered a number of health setbacks over the years including spinal issues relating to a quad bike crash in 2003 and injuries from a subsequent fall, infections and a Parkinson's disease diagnosis.
He also previously revealed his wife Sharon came up with the idea for the Black Sabbath reunion gig as a way of cheering him up after his health issues started to get him down. He told the Guardian newspaper: "You wake up the next morning and find that something else has gone wrong. You begin to think this is never going to end.
"Sharon could see that I was in Doom Town, and she says to me: 'I've got an idea.' It was something to give me a reason to get up in the morning.' "I thought: 'Oh, f****** hell, she's got an idea. Here we go."
News of his death was confirmed by his family on Tuesday in a statement which read: "It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. "We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis."

Guy Pearce glad his pop career flopped

Guy Pearce is 'grateful" his 1980s pop career flopped. The Memento star shot to fame on Australian soap opera Neighbours in the mid-1980s and after leaving the show he followed in the footsteps of his former co-stars Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan by attempting to carve out a career in the music industry, but Guy failed to set the charts on fire as his 1989 single Call of the Wild limped into the Australian singles countdown at number 156 and he was left in the "wilderness". He told the Guardian newspaper: "After I finished Neighbours, there was a period where people would say: 'Didn't you used to be Mike from Neighbours?' "Then one day, this 10- or 12-year-old kid came up to me in a shopping centre and said: 'Didn't you used to be Guy Pearce?' I thought: 'Wow, that's the most profound thing anyone's ever said', because, in a way, it was true." He went on to add: "I always knew I wasn't just a soap opera actor. I was just stuck in that cycle. Prior to Neighbours, I'd done 10 years of theatre, which made playing the same character for four years frustrating. "I wanted to delve into a wider variety of personalities and behaviours. But when I finished Neighbours in 1989, I was in the wilderness because no one wanted to employ the guy who was in Neighbours, and I struggled to find work." Guy eventually put pop on the backburner to continue acting - joining rival Australian soap Home and Away for a short stint and going back to his theatre roots - and his perseverance eventually paid off as he landed his breakout Hollywood role in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert in 1994. Now Guy admits he doesn't regret missing out on being a 1980s pop sensation, telling the publication: "I went back and did some theatre, a little bit of Home and Away and then, in 1993, I got to do Priscilla. So, yes, I'm really grateful that my 80s pop career didn't take off!" Guy did eventually return to music two decades later when he released his first album, Broken Bones, in 2014 and he followed it up by released his second record The Nomad in 2018.

Demi Lovato releases first single in three years

Demi Lovato has released her first new single in three years. The singer dropped electro-pop track Fast on Friday (01.08.25) after she previously declared she was ready to return to her pop roots after dabbling with a rock sound on her last album Holy Fvck. As she teased the new single in posts on social media, Demi told fans: "My pop music coming back to life after we had a funeral for it." The singer previously held a "funeral" for her pop sound by sharing a picture of herself and her team dressed in black with Demi holding up her middle finger to the camera. She captioned the snap: "A funeral for my pop music". Fast is Demi's first release since she launched Holy Fvck in 2002 which was led by the singles Skin of My Teeth, Substance and 29. Rolling Stone magazine recently reported Demi would be embracing pop again on her next project, with the publication suggesting the album - which will be her ninth studio record - is expected to be released later in the year. She has been working on her new music with songwriter/producer Zhone, who told Rolling Stone they had a lot of fun in the studio together while making the new record. He said: "It's been so inspiring working with Demi and experiencing her journey of continued leveling up. "She is such a master in the studio. This album is about letting inhibitions go, and we had so much fun making this music! It really comes across throughout." A source added to the publication: "Over the past few years, Demi has found love, joy, and newfound confidence, making the choice to approach life with much more lightness and fun. "She took this sentiment into the studio, which can be felt in every track." Demi - who married her fiance Jordan 'Jutes' Lutes in May - previously admitted she was still "figuring out" her sound for the new album but was working on a number of love songs. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last year, Demi explained: "It's true. I'm working on new music. I'm kind of figuring out my sound right now. "I don't know when it'll come out but it'll come out when I'm ready." The host then asked his guest if it would be a max of "happy songs and sad songs" and she replied: "I tend to write from the place that I am in in the moment. Because it's actually been like... it's been amazing. "I've been writing nothing but love songs and sexy songs because I'm in this really good place. It feels good to be able to write coming from that place."

Kelly Osbourne made emotional final promise to dad Ozzy before his death: report

Kelly Osbourne is reportedly doing her best to keep the final promise she made to her father, Ozzy Osbourne, before he died. 'The last few days have been a tough ride, but Kelly has been focused on executing plans with her mum,' a source told the Daily Mail on Friday. 'Of course, there have been tears, but she promised her dad — who openly spoke about not wanting people to mourn but rather celebrate his life — that she would not crumble in public.' According to the source, Ozzy — who died last Tuesday at the age of 76 — 'always pushed' his family to 'celebrate what people have done in life, not f***ing worry about what's next.' While Kelly, 40, is trying to maintain her strength and composure, she and her siblings are reportedly 'concerned about the impact this is having on [matriarch] Sharon' Osbourne, who was married to the rock legend for 43 years. 'She and Ozzy were such a unique couple,' the source said, adding that 'them being apart … is heartbreaking.' Sharon, 72, looked visibly distraught during her late husband's funeral procession through his home city of Birmingham, England, on Wednesday. A hearse containing the former Black Sabbath frontman's body travelled along Broad Street and made its way to the Black Sabbath Bridge and bench, where thousands of mourners from around the world left flowers and messages. Sharon, Kelly, and her brother, Jack Osbourne, 39 — who were all part of the cortège — tearfully exited their vehicle to stop at the bench. Sharon, who was held up by Kelly and Jack, sobbed as she bent down to place a pink flower wrapped in black paper among the massive pile of tributes. The emotional bunch, which eventually included two of Ozzy's other kids — son Louis Osbourne, who is about 50, and daughter Aimee Osbourne, 41 — turned to face the crowd and flashed peace signs before getting back in their car. The event, which preceded a 'small, private funeral,' was funded by the Osbourne family. While Ozzy had Parkinson's disease and limited mobility stemming from a 2003 quad bike accident that nearly killed him, his cause of death has not yet been revealed. Shortly after paramedics tried for hours to save his life, his family issued a collective statement that read, 'It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning.' 'He was with his family and surrounded by love,' they continued. 'We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.' Kelly went on to tell her Instagram followers, 'I feel unhappy I am so sad. I lost the best friend I ever had.' Ozzy's health was reportedly already in 'fragile' condition when he and Sharon, who wed in 1982, moved back to England in 2023 to live out 'their final chapter' in Buckinghamshire. Together, they had Aimee, Kelly and Jack, while Ozzy shared Louis with his first wife, Thelma Riley, to whom he was married from 1971 to 1982. The exes are also parents to son Elliot Kingsley, who is in his mid-50s, and daughter Jessica Osbourne, 45.
