Barcelona confident of closing agreement with 24-year-old star
Barcelona are not expected to make any further signings this summer, but there is still key business that needs to be done. Sales are required for a number of players to be registered with La Liga, and on top of this, contract talks are set to take place with several first team stars. An agreement on a new deal with Jules Kounde has recently been finalised, sporting director Deco will move on to other players. And two that are classed as priorities for Barcelona are Frenkie de Jong and Eric Garcia. Both players are out of contract in less than 12 months' time, so it is essential for new terms to be agreed in the coming weeks. In regards to de Jong, talks with his new representatives are expected to take place soon, and this could also be the case for Eric. It has previously been reported that Eric had been close to an agreement on a new contract, but rather, the process has been slow. As per MD, both parties are seeking a resolution soon, with the plan being for the 24-year-old defender to remain at the Catalan club for years to come. Image via Cordon Press Hansi Flick is counting on Eric for next season Barcelona want to sell at least one centre-back this summer, although Hansi Flick has made it clear that he does not want Eric to go. Like Kounde, he can play at right-back as well as in central defence, and he values this versatility. Barcelona expect there to be no problems in reaching an agreement with Eric, although it may not come for a few weeks at least. They are aware that the player is happy in Catalonia, and his preference would be to remain in Flick's squad for a while yet. For now, it remains to be seen whether that turns out to be the case.

Barcelona hopeful of finalising midfielder transfer next week
Barcelona have been busy in the transfer market in recent weeks, and there will be more business done before the start of September – when the window closes. However, this will primarily be departures, given that sales are needed to ensure that Joan Garcia and Marcus Rashford can be registered for the start of the new La Liga season. The likes of Alex Valle, Ansu Fati, Pablo Torre and Pau Victor have already departed, but more are needed in order for Barcelona to return to La Liga's 1:1 rule – which will make it easier for players to be registered. The likes of Andreas Christensen and Ronald Araujo have been mentioned as possible candidates, but at this stage, the player that is set to depart next is veteran midfielder Oriol Romeu. Romeu has been left out of Barcelona's squad for their pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea, having been informed by head coach Hansi Flick that he is not in his plans for the upcoming season. As such, a departure is being sought. Image via Pere Puntí/Mundo Deportivo And according to MD, Barcelona are hoping to have a permanent exit for Romeu sorted by next week. Valencia are said to be interested in signing him, while a return to Girona could also be on the cards. Barcelona unlikely to fetch significant fee for Romeu Given his status in the first team squad, and the fact that he has less than a year remaining on his contract, Romeu will almost certainly not command much of a fee. Barcelona are aware of this, and they simply want his wages off the books, which will help in freeing up the space required for other players to be registered. It remains to be seen where Romeu ends up. He is still very capable of performing regularly in La Liga, and it is expected that he will remain in Spanish football upon his expected departure from Barcelona.

Marcus Rashford leaves Man United on loan to seal dream move to Barcelona
Marcus Rashford has joined Barcelona on loan for the season as he has left Manchester United for the second time in 2025. The Spanish champions have an option to buy Rashford next summer for €30m with the forward unlikely to have a future at Old Trafford as long as Ruben Amorim remains United manager. Rashford signed his contract in front of Barcelona president Joan Laporta but it remains to be seen when the Catalan club will be able to register him in their La Liga squad. United are expected to save around £12m in wages, with Rashford among the best-paid players at Old Trafford. However, they have had to loan him out for a second successive transfer window, after he joined Aston Villa in February, and they are yet to recoup a transfer fee for him, while they have spent up to £133m on new forwards in this transfer window. Rashford, who had talked about wanting to play alongside Lamine Yamal, has got the move he wanted while Barcelona sporting director Deco and manager Hansi Flick had both spoken in public about their interest in him. But Barcelona also made an approach for Luis Diaz, which Liverpool rebuffed, and came close to signing Nico Williams, who instead he chose to sign a new contract at Athletic Bilbao, before turning back to Rashford. United had claimed that he, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia had asked to leave as they were not allowed to train with Ruben Amorim's first team in pre-season. Rashford has scored 138 goals in 426 games for United but did not feature in their final 13 games before he signed for Villa, being omitted from the squad for 12 of them. He scored four times in 17 games on loan for Villa, who did not take up their option to buy him for £40m. United, who have bought Matheus Cunha for £62.5m and Bryan Mbeumo for a fee that could rise to £71m this summer, are expected to target a centre-forward to complete their new-look forward line.
